Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

If you must know CC... I was wearing bright pink yoga pants, my fuzzy uggs, and baseball cap and ponytail... Left the heavy duty white fashion boots at home...

New chick is named Venus. Seems to be ok so far... But will be keeping a close eye on her...

Dinners on TO.. Sort of. I'm making bacon egg and cheese bake and using a dozen homegrown eggs. new recipe, looks easy enough, even for me!

Oh and I seem to be having some chicken math issues. I have 3 chicks right now. I ordered 2 Ee chick, and 1 white Cochin chick for delivery wk of Feb 20. The school has a dozen eggs to hatch that week (but who knows how many we'll really get!), then in June I have 5 silkies and 3-4 Faverolles coming. I think I have lost count already... How many chicks am I going to have by the summer?!?!

BTW, I just came to the frightening conclusion that I simply do not have enough incubator space. Should have gone with the bigger Brinsea.

What have you done to me, people??????????????

Good evening all! I am sure glad I didnt have to go and get my client...I am beat! Bedded the goats and sheep today after unloading the hay, also one chicken pen I overlooked yesterday...tomorrow is a long day and I still have to get the quail done...wish I didnt have the 4H meeting tonight! I still havent taken the roo out of the basement. He and she are definitely the egg eaters...I got 24 quail eggs yesterday...I lately have only been finding ONE! The reason I got so many is that the light burned out and he couldnt see them! DH was rewiring the 2nd light...kinda wondered why I didnt hear him crowing yesterday....LOL~

So the woman came and gave me a check for the horse...I will be taking it to her bank in the morning...if it doesnt clear--no horse on Saturday! I still havent decided if I want to give her the papers on her or not. Maybe I should tell her that the papers are $2,000--then I would almost break even!
Today I plugged my red slow cooker in and it shorted! Scared the SH!t out of me! I am glad I didnt have my hand on it...I was kinda scared to unplug it then. I guess DH will have to rewire that too...he is getting a regular pile on the kitchen table. THe cookie tin heater shorted on my yesterday! (must be my electric personality eh?

) The wires on both of them are bare right where they go into the unit...who know how that happens? Anyhow I had to use my OTHER SC for the lentil soup tonight...I had a little taste, it is GOOD!

Quote: I guess CC and her DH will hop on their motorcycle and head right up Bigz! I'm thinkin' you oughta save some of that sausage! I am going to have some of that made if my neighbor gets me a deer again next year...my mouth is watering just thinking about it! Does it have a name? I suppose you dont have the recipe!

I chased those darn Calls off of the road 3 times today! They never went n the road last year...I guess the larger flock gives them more courage? If they dont stop it they will be locked up! I think my oldest ewe is getting ready to drop her lambs. I had calculated the middle of February--but maybe I am wrong. The gate that I need to get her through is still frozen shut...the pen gate is loose but not the "out" gate! I am going to fix that for next winter!

Guess I'd better get stuff together for my meeting...have a great night! Terri O

(PS) the other name that is double is Kris! (glad I figured out that burning question!)

H&R, when the roos are real little, do you notice any behavior that is different from the females?

depends on how little you are talking about. Based on the breeds we have experience with I can tell you with this: our first group is 1 month old- we can tell who the boys are because they have bigger combs which are turning red and wattles are dropping down. The boys are also chest bumping each other with hackle feathers flared alot more often than girls. One little boy was being such a bully that he was grabbing the back of other chicks heads and pushing their head to the ground- he pushed the whole group out away from the heat lamp. Sometimes the boys will have heavier legs and stand straighter than the girls- a bit more cockier if that helps.
