Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hey RunAMuck !! I don't remember you but I've been on Cheeseheads for almost a year now ???
I'm over near Crandon, although I hate to say that cause it has a bad rep. Actually close to Pelican Lake !! LOL
Not a local from Crandon though so I get points for that !! LOL
Yeah, Jim, that's the name I forgot !!! Ermine !!! i haven't seen them this winter but then again i'm not outside that much. I've never seen them in summer-the weasels !!

Hi All!

Guess I fell asleep last night...

still a bit under the weather.

Susie.... Peace for your dad and your family!

Another night of reading stuff and CRS! I did read about the fishers, I don't think they are this far south, however there is a pocket of martens around here. I guess they escaped from a fur farm years ago. The girls (at least some) came out a bit in the afternoon. Hopefully they will be out longer tomorrow. Dang is Storky a stubborn broody! If they don't hatch eggs how long will they try? I think it's been a month! Eggs get taken daily so she spends more time on an empty nest that an egg one. I've taken her out in the cold and made her walk back to the coop. I've even rubbed snow on her belly and butt! I even put an ice pack in the nest! She's that Thai hen, Jim, did any of yours get like that? Also I thought I had the guinea's abscess taken care of....had to bring her back in to lance it again now.

I got some "VetRx" and I'll try that now.

Guess that's it.... night all!

good morning, I got up extra early today just to keep Robin company..

there is a reason why weasels kill so many chickens at a time.. they are hoarders.
In their domain they make pantries full of mice and such to see them through the winter.
when they kill all those chickens they have every intention to drag them all to their pantry.
we humans just step in and screw up their plans by picking up all the dead chickens before they can finish their job..

I locked Nora in the lean to last night. I have to keep Prince away from her until Wednesday.
I made a deal to get her bred to a male Maremme in Arpin.. Prolly be ready this week..
I hope it takes..

I watched the dog show on TV last night.. there was a white Great Pyrenese and that other white one that looks exactly like the Gr P.. I think that all of these large white herd protectors are the same breed,, only from different areas of Europe..
Back in the old days, it was a long ways to walk between towns and countries , so they each had no idea that the other had the same breed of dog..

I hope it is half a$$ed warm out today.. I have to fill the feed bins.. I have been washing the waterers regularly too, but it is much easier to do it if it is above freezing.. (6 two letter words in a row) is that proper grammar ?

.............jiminwisc.............

Thanks Frenchie! I did not know the stuff from fleet was FG. I have the white FG DE that is fit for human consumption (so they say)..... not that I am going to start eating it though!

So Fishers are as close as Outagamie County? Great..... glad the ducks are in an elevated pen with decent latches.

Welcome unkadan and apyl!

We have them here and I'm in Juneau county :/

Fishers are also known as Martens, good luck.

Well I figured I'd reintroduce myself...
I was a member of BYC for a long time, then lost Internet at home about a year ago...Finally was able to get onto the Internet this weekend and came back to this site... oh how i missed it... no way will i ever catch up on all the missed info.. Anyway when I tried to log in it said my info was non existent so I had to resign up... so now I'm a newbie again....
We live in northern Wisconsin on about 50 acres of heaven... we have raised everything from all kinds of poultry, to pigs, horses, goats, and sheep...rabbits. and cattle. even pot belly pigs...
i would so love to become self sufficient and go off grid some day.... right now we are still in the process of 'trying to make a go of a simpler lifestyle' hence the no Internet for a year... come to find out it's needed... I don't know how we have went a year without it...
We have a fairly simple lifestyle...Most involves and revolves around our kids and animals... we have our animals for our kids as well as make a living with them...
We have named our little piece of heaven..."Run-A-Muck Ranch" and wouldn't have it any other way...
Nothing is perfect or even level here...lol Everything seems to be a work in progress that works... As well as a learning experience that we all learn from... My kids show in both FFA and 4H... My kids are also very knowledgeable about the animals and what they are for... Yes they get attached to the animals. All of them have names and their own personalities... But they also know that certain animals will eventually become food. They are very involved in that process...
Well that's probably enough for right now... When I figure this new site out I'm sure I will be back to my posting.... I have learned alot in a year without Internet and hope to share some of those things with everyone...(might be old news for everyone else as you've all had Internet lol)

It's OH SO GOOD TO BE BACK ON HERE.... I HAVE MISSED IT SOOOOOOOO MUCH

You'r ranch sound great. I'd love to have 50 acres, but am settleing with 2 for now :). My oldest daughter is in 4-H and loves it. Welcome back.

Morning All...welcome to the cheeseheads unk...no need to lurk....we don't bite real hard.

Welcome back run-a-muck...It's been 3 years since you've been on at least. You were part of the very first cheeseheads meet up at Neilsville....3 of us, you, me and Jim. The get togethers are quite large now...hang around and you'll hear more. Suzie would kill for some more of your mom's home made soap.

Time to fill the waterers and head out to the coops.
