Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Lets put it this way jim. I could drive to Minnesota and be there within 1 1/2 hours. If I were to come to any or most of your places it would be 2- 2 1/2 hours or more. The only thing about going to Minnesota is going through the twin cities, or over the hills.

My barnyards are plymouth rocks and ameraucanas mixed with who knows what rooster. However I do have a lot of randy banty roosters. My silkies and cochins are seperated. I could give you some barnyard mix eggs DrH. Because I saw the Ameraucana roo doing his job I am thinking it is time to seperate them, but that means I need to build another enclosure Come to think of it, I just may build one within the next week and a half. I have through the first week of March to get them seperate and purified for the swap You could be my tester to see if they are all purified. The rocks have layed consistently through the winter and the Ameraucanas have performed pretty well also

Ok. Here are my chick pictures. I had 3 eggs due to hatch and they all did. The white (really a splash) on is SUPER puffy. It's bantam cochin/silkie and it looks like it has a beard and muffs, but no puff on the head. The black and white one has the puff on the head and no visible beard/muffs. Both have feathered legs and the fifth toe. Then there's the turken. Which I am convinced is Iowa blue and is a cockerel. All my Iowa Blue mixes that hatch out this reddish color turn out to be roos. I guess time will tell. It is a standard but came out of a pullet (bantam sized) egg. It didn't have much room to grow in that tiny egg. Hopefully it will catch up and be normal size. I thought I was setting eggs from just bantam cochin hens. oops.

The turken is super cute! The black @ white looks like a pure bred black cochin bantam. It has some very nice feathering on its feet. :) The white one has a beard but I don't think it looks at all silkie. Of course I have no experience with the 3/4 - 1/4 breedings. All the 1/2 silkies I have hatched had black skin. But if you say it has 5 toes then I guess it must be part silkie. It may have a small poof when it gets older. I have a 'pair' of black silkies that are 4 months old I would sell to a 4Her if you are interested. Looks like a boy and girl but could be 2 girls. The only problem is their poofs may be too big and they wouldn't be able to find their way around your place. :).

Actually, Bf4 started it. And no snow??????

Wish we didn't have any.

H&R, good comparison of pullets to kids. That's exactly it. They are so excitable & always want to be in on the action all the time. I was out by the chickens this summer with my 4 pullets running around me when one of them just popped out an egg & kept right on going. Silly birds.

Cool pens, Jim. Glad you got your pics to work.

Beautiful pics, Terri! Mine look like crap in comparison.

Good Afternoon all,

TO & CC Beautiful snow pictures. We got some here but i haven't gone outside yet so I don't know how much.

DrHa I think we should all send you a few eggs !!! I have barnyard mixes too. I have BCM. BSM.BR, RIR, Dom, BO,Ameraucana, EE, Polish Austrlorps (hens) running with all of the same roosters except the Australorp. Ought to make some interesting birds!

DH went fishing with the guys today up near Eagle River. I'm going tomorrow to help my sister babysit for Addie. For some reason I just can't get excited about standing around on the ice. I used to look forward to it. I might go out for a little bit, I want to spend some time with my nephew.

In the mean time, have tons of laundry to do, need to clean the pigs pen and the brooders. That's what sucks about having chicks.

I like Jim's outside brooders. I saw them in person but I can't remember, do they have solid bottoms or wire? I need some of those like NOW to get these chicks outside !! LOL

CC those are beautiful snow pics. WoWser you got quite a bit of snow. I like the landscape one with the bluish sky. I like how it reflects on the snow.

Afternoon FT!

Afternoon All!
Wow is it beautiful outside with all that snow! I have yet to take pics since I spent the morning baking bread. The house smells so wonderful and Im about ready to slice me some warm bread! Yummm..

The Girls run is encased in snow and they are like: Oh No!! It the Tunnel of Terror! LOL! They all made a made dash to go out and slammed on the breaks at the last second. It created a traffic jam and my laughter annoyed them.. Bet I don't get eggs today!

I placed myself on the Notify List at Ideal Hatchery for a few different breeds. They are sold out till May so that will work out well.
Cackle also has the breeds I want so I might order from them as well. Get them sooner and sell off those I don't want. I have to talk to dh first and see what he has in seminars. I want to try to plan around those little darlings. If any one wants to add to my order let me know. Tell me what you want from Ideal and will place those on my notify list. If if order from Cackle I will let y'all know if you want to add on there. I order pullets unless I get meaties. Those will be straight run.

TO-OMG! Your chicks are so cute! Especially the little black ones!

Jim- Nice brooders. I love your Emergency Sitters..That is funny...awesome...but funny!

BBP-Your chicks are cute too! I like the yellow one.

CC-nice winter pics!

More to say put can't remember!

The black and white one has 5 toes too. The cochin hens were in with that 1/2 silkie I got from you. So the 2 that aren't turken are his. I wish the turken mix was his too. That would have been really cute.

MLH what a nice offer! I think there is a charge for each different breed you order and such not.? I wonder how much that would be? I had to jump over there and look at the breeds. lol I see the lt br leghorns are out till May and they only sell them till June. So tempting. Those cream brabanters and silver spangled hamburgs look so cute too. I gotta think about this. I will try and find out what the extra charges are. Have you ordered any of these breeds? The J@erhons are cute too. :)

Good Fish Fry Friday All.... Nice snow picks. I love snow when it's at your house and not mine!

I took my one dead chain saw to the repair guy. If it's the coil it's not worth fixing...it has some other issues too. If it can be repaired, then that's one more to use for the chores.

Nothing else new here...have fun shoveling...glad it's not me.

Hello - beautiful snow here, ducks love it, chickens not so much! Just wanted to drop in and let you know I received an email from Stark Bros. (nursery) that they're having a 3 day (thru 2/27) 20% off sale on some of their inventory. I've bought fruit trees from them 3 years in a row and have been really happy with their stock, timing of delivery, etc. My sister also got some of their blackberries (jim or something) and said they are just huge - the biggest blackberries she's ever seen and that they are quite tasty.... Just thought I'd pass along the sales info.... See http://www.starkbros.com if interested.

Have a good one!
Elaine
