Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning all!
Spent part of this morning sorting out all sorts of Coop Drama. I have oodles of next boxes but they all want to lay on SG and her eggs. Stupid Birds. I'm very glad that they don't make iPhones for chickens.....I'd never be able to afford the bill.....

All this gardening talk is making me want to get seeds started. I don't have room though....

Welcome to the newbies!

CC-Heather? Seriously? Your going to name one of your chicks Heather? I don't know if I should be offended or not! LOL!! Heather indeed....Although, that is a good chicken name....

Chix-Good luck at your board meeting. Also you can check out Mad City Chickens web site.

WCC-Hope you feel better soon!

Well, dh wants to go into town. I'd best get my boots on and layer up. Man it is freaking windy outside. No wonder I have a migraine. *sigh* I see Advil in my near future...
Maybe I'll go to Blains and get some more shavings and check out their seeds...Ooooo, maybe I'll plan a window shelf for my sunny window so I can start some herb seeds.....Get a little plant light.....Ooooo...That you be fun!

good windy morning, BBP, what you do is pretend you really like the truck that you really don't. then when your DH wants it, you will wind up with the truck you really want..

not much to write about early in the morning..

I got into a small poker tournament last night.. came in 5th out of 27..

Good morning! Man it is windy out there today! The plastic is popping in the wind...I hope is stays secure to the porch! I always put it up there to make a windbreak and to keep snow off the porch too. It serves as our mudroom, outside refrigerator and general junk collection spot for most of the year! It used to have glass or screen on it I think...there looks to be things mounted up there for keeping such on. (cant find them around in the buildings though :( ) So I suffer with the plastic....
Our toilet is frozen this morning! I didnt think it even got that cold last night! The wind is from the East though...that is where the plumbing is. I didnt think wind affected inanimate objects? There must be a hole or something that it is blowing into and keeping the heat away from the pipes? Who know with old farm houses? I hope the quail are OK in the basement...guess I should get down there and check!

Uncadan you can ramble as much as you want about gardening...I do believe we have a few Master Gardeners on here anyhow! Your hoop house sounds fantastic! That is something I toyed with (starting a market garden) but there are so many folks that do that around here that I would have to be REALLY good...there is a family of (I think) Mennonites up the road that have 10 kids...they are out there all the time in the huge garden. THen they sell at the market in town. Nice stuff too. I think it's funny that our gardens get smaller one year and then we make them bigger again...right DrH? Mine is expanding too...of course the tiller doesnt have a new engine on it yet...I am not real happy about that! I may just go out and rent one--perhaps "Mr Repair Man" will get on the stick then?

Apyl--message WiChCh about your van. I understand she needs a few parts for hers...

DrH--glad you guys are feeling better! You know we have to watch out for you "Oldsters" when you get a bug!

HAHA--first I typed oddsters--I guess that would have fit too!

CC-Where id you get more Lavs? Did Heather share some of the classroom birds with you? THat is cool...you are on your way to having just what you want! I grabbed up all my Ausie girls and put the in with the new Roo (his name is Ron BTW) HE is nice to Hopper too so I dont have to move him out of there. (glad about that, I dont think he has much lifetime left...) So anyhow I will have BA eggs if you still need some!

Cind--definitely dangerous to go to TSC during chick days...I am not to keen on their chicks for the most part but I do like to take a look when I go!
Our town is on the verge of letting the townies have 6 chickens per household! THere are a bunch of rules of course...it will either be a good thing or a bad thing for my egg business. TIme will tell!

Why dont you go under the rule of "easier to ask forgiveness than permission?" Or is it already too late for that? With all that land in front and back of you who would even KNOW that you had any birds? Hopefully your are friends with your neighbors and you can just bring them some eggs now and again. Good luck when you go in front of the board--hopefully there are some chicken lovers on there! I would bring the neighbors or at least a signed letter from them saying that they dont have any objections. WHen I had chickens in Oconomowoc (Man that is fun to type!) I just had to have all the neighbors' permission to keep them. It was a piece of cake!

Well, after 10, better do something....Have a fantastic day! Terri O

I love the chilling with a beer and a chicken avatar too. When the weather here is milder, I take my evening glass of wine to the coop and have a little relaxing time with my girls.

Windy Sunday All.....I had to go back out and reprop the one pen door open. The wind had it waving in the wind.
Welcome elsa and anyone else that is new here. Nothing but good folks here.

Yep, have to watch the race too! I'm a fan of car 26 today....race, race, race!

I am going to the Neillsville swap to buy some
fl.gif
perennials And maybe sell some crafts that I have been working on. I am a pretty hard critic on my crafts though. Maybe pick up a cage, and talk to some people I havent seen in a while. Not selling any chickens. I don't like to at swaps too much~ too sad for the chickens and me. I am going to breed less, and if there are some I absolutely cannot keep I will find them a forever home, or kill them on my property rather than have them be scared and/or tossed around. The chicken business is not for me too much. I may sell chicks to people, or hatching eggs but thats about it for me. Ok Off my stump. Still looking for the schedule.

Unkanddan love to hear about your market gardening adventures. Where abouts do you live.?

Well i hope everyones days are going good. I never did get a call back from the guy with the truck, oh well. Maybe by next weekend I can find something. So instead I built a temporary dog run since they seem to think its ok to not listen lately . I have no idea whats gotten into either dog but lately when I say come to them it mean run faster. So anyway until I can get a buried wire fence they can go in the pen when we're outside. Don't worry their not in it all the time, they are mostly inside dogs but I dont like leaving them inside when I am outside. I did work on the chicken coop a little. I got the two sides done, now I just need to cut the back wall and the front and add some hinges for a door. I did take some pics. It is a little over 10' 6" feet wide and about 7'9" deep and 5' 9" tall inside. The run will be about 20' wide and 40' long. The red line in the pic shows where the fence is going. The pile of limbs is being taken to the burn pile and will be burned once it isnt so windy. Oh and the gap at the top of the coop will have mesh covering it. And of course once its nice enough out the thing will get painted lol.
