I got a call from Bargain in Georgia today. Turns out the wheaten eggs they threw in to help cover the LO eggs they couldn't come up with are NOT Wheatens. They are 1/2 Wheatens and half Black Copper Marans. Great. I hope I can still upload those as Marans hybrids which will still lay dark eggs. Jeepers...
I also caved and gave the birds in their new coop the heat lamp. I am such a wussy.

Just had to throw that bit in about the LOs to get me to stop, didn'tcha? Woosie.

How nice of them. They weren't getting paid for this batch so they sent you some crap they had that they couldn't sell. I'd raise he!! & make them send you the number of LO eggs that they owe you.

HA!! Good luck with that! This is a very rare breed..... if you do a google search and look at the images you will see even more metallic colors. They are just beautiful!

Wow, that color is so unique it almost looks fake !!! Those white socks look a bit to white if you ask me. I made a comment about the white socks at a 4h competition in MN once. Turns out they were so white because they put what was it baby powder or something like that on them?

So what is that color called?
Pretty horse but I'll stick with my draft horses. Ride a draft, it makes your Butt look smaller !!! lol

I agree, she should send you what you paid for to begin with !! Just because a chicken lays an egg doesn't mean it should be put in the incubator. What she thinks will be a nice chicken may not be what you think or should I say you paid her for.
She could have held off to send you more eggs when they were laying !!! I got screwed by someone in Georgia, the Lavender Orp eggs I got hatched out black and brown birds !!!
Her reply was, that is my kids favorite color !!!

I wish I had the money I've wasted on eggs. Not the fact that some didn't hatch but what hatched and wasn't what they said they were.

I'll tell you what, I'm getting real burnt out with these chicken liars, I mean people !!

Tomorrow I'm setting 7 LO eggs I got from the woman in MI. Plus one egg from a LO roo and EE she gave me. I would have set them today but my Lavender split silkie eggs didn't get here from PA as planned. Those were suppose to go to the school too but I had to get them to the school so they could hatch them before Easter Break.
So as long as I'm setting I may as well plop in some paint sil

Have both bedroom windows open tonight. There is one guinea that is going nuts !!! At this rate I don't think I will get any sleep, and I aint going out there to find out why.

Heard tons of coyotes howling tonight. The dogs were at it too !!! Gee Whiz, no rest for the wicked.
Oh she stopped for maybe a minute, now she's at it again.
Picked up my venison farmers sausage and Italian sausage today. Can't wait to try it. Also picked up some ham soup base, but now I can't remember what soup I needed it for. I think it was Bigzios recipe. Hey Bigz, do you remember what soup recipe you shared that used soup ham base ???
I also got some broccoli and cheese mix and ranch dip mix. It is all packaged at the butchers, ought to be interesting to see if I like any of the stuff.
The guineas are all roosting on top of the chicken run. Wonder if something is bothering them. I think I need to run my red Christmas lights on the flashing mode and see if that deters any preds. I bought tons of them and was going to run it through sump pump hose to cover up some of the lights to make it appear like red eyes every so many feet.

Will have to take pictures if/when i do it. It's going to look like.......... well, some of you get the idea !!!! Reminds me of years and years ago in my first house. It had a door on each side and at Christmas time I would put a green light in one porch light and a red one in the other. My dad came over to fix something and politely told me to take the red light out !!!

Boy this fresh air feels good in here tonight, but the noise is terrible !!! So much for piece and quite in the North woods !!

DrH... Yep, it is a weird system, but I guess it was inspected and passed

The guy that inspected the house before we bought it said as long as we can keep it working it should be OK. Looks like we may have to pump more often than we were told we would have to, but still beats renting!

TO... Hope your mother is doing OK... is there someone to watch out for her at home?

DD12.... The only cat that really had to learn the chickens were off limits was the kitten. Once she got chased by them (and the roos) she no longer pays any attention. The older cats all know if it's cared for by one of us, it's off limits! What I did with any critters I didn't want the cats to go after, was hold them and pet them with the cats close by. The the cats know they are yours.

Yes, CC is mean... I see she's even posting critters that are right in MY neck of the woods too!

LOL! Yea, I have one of those unhandy hubby's too! I keep an ear his way every time he uses tools! I scares me when he uses tools... and there always seems like a large waste factor when he uses tools...

I keep him anyway.

TO... Wish I could have spent a long time in the shower! I no sooner got the "back up" cleaned out and DH jumped in! Then DS said he stinks (he did) because he had to hold it too long (remember he has MS... little control sometimes) So, he jumped in. By that time the hot water was almost out (I did 2 loads of dishes too) and it was too late for me.

I did a quick shower today, but I decided I'm getting a good soak in Thur. night! I did get my hair washed!

Bl4... That horse is gorges! So stunning it dose look fake! Would love to see one in person! ( Bet the don't guild many of them!)

The girls spent most of the day doing dust baths and sun bathing! Chickens laying around all over the place... what a lazy bunch!

At one point the coop was almost empty! One hen sitting by herself on the nest and that was it!

Guess it's time to hit the hay...got to get up and help someone move a bed at noon!.... Night all!

Good Morning - Looks like it's gonna be another nice day!

Terri - So sorry to hear of your troubles...

No quail yet. One more day and the whole batch gets thrown out... They were on day 17 Tues. I checked a couple yesterday and they weren't even fertile!

This bronchitis is still nippin' at me but it seems to be getting better every day.

Looking forward to Jim's visit... Should be a nice weekend - weather-wise....

Well, off to do a little grinding and polishing..... (stone) LOL

Good evening all! Man am I bushed...got TONS done outside today! Redid the door I picked up in the trash to fit in my third coop section. Cut the opening and then hinged it on....then moved all the roosters into it from the barn. I left the hens in that pen since they are laying so well along with the buckeye on eggs and added 3 more that I want to get "pure" for eggs for the next foolish hatch!

I left my tiny Blue Ameraucana banty in there with the hens...I think his chest swelled 6 sizes! He was up on the roost tonight (where he never went with the big guys in there) and I was telling him how beautiful he is...you should have seen him strut! I bet he thinks he died and went to heaven for sure. The roos were fine in their new pen but in the other pen I pulled 3 hens and added 4 roos to the 3 that were in there--what a fighting mess! There is a cuckoo Ameraucana in there that was just going at it with another one...thought I would have to pull him out but he setlled down when I put in some bigger, older roos. Now my laying hens have only Australorp and Aussie/MaransX in there with them...oh yeah, and Abe the Salmon Fav. Now if I hatch any eggs I will have the extra size in the mixed chicks. Bigger hens lay bigger eggs!

Thanks for all the support for my Mom--I believe she came home today...the funeral for my Uncle is on Monday in Pulaski (just East of Green Bay) Dh is going to Green Bay on Tuesday for work so I guess I am going by myself. I kind of want to ride with my parents or my Aunt...but I kind of want to go myself because then I can visit with some of my peeps and bring some chickens home!

Like I need any more hey?

I thought that I was going to ride horses with WiChCh today but she didnt answer any of my phone calls or texts...I hope you are alright?
Jim you sound like my friend Judi...first thing she said today was that it was TOO HOT to be outside! I believe you about the AC NJ...I bet some of my town friends had theirs on today. I guess in order to be comfortable some folks need to be at 72 degrees year round.

That is just about big enough for a chair to sit on and read in the sun! There wont be room for a table so yu better put a railing all around to set your drink on! The kids look like they are having fun playing in the dirt too...that was a favorite activity here...they would sit under the big pine tree and play in the roots with matchbox cars (or pinecones!)

My inside chicks are really noisy tonight--it is the modern games that are cheeping like crazy! Eli doesnt say a word...he is so big! I will get a pic tomorrow. He looks like a giant next to the games.

Thank you, Oh it will get a railing lol. Normally DH and I sit by the fire or out in the yard when we drink. We dont know anyone around here (except the two retired neighbors) so no one ever comes over. The deck is 8x8, the old one was just stairs with no deck so this is huge compared to that lol. And yeah the kids LOVE getting filthy head to toe, I always find DS's hothweels scattered thru out the yard.
