Sorry to hear about them, and I hope they will be ok.

Beautiful weather down here today! I wish it would last.

I should have cleaned out the coop, but I grabbed Moose & went to weed out some of the gardens. He thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine and warm breezes as much as I did. He is becoming quite the spoiled lap chicken too, a very large lap chicken. But he was very diligent in letting me know every time a hawk, turkey vulture or plane came into view.

Ramses is looking better today! Not nearly as tired looking and napping all the time. And he takes his meds like a champ. Didn't give me a bit of grief. Just waiting til he starts feeling better, then we'll see how well he takes them. Oops, just saw some lightning. Better sign off. Take care everyone and sweet dreams!

Just wanted to say good night and sweet dreams! The banquet went well. DH forgot his credit card at the bar and we were almost to SUn Prairie...he couldnt stand leaving it until tomorrow so we turned around and went BACK into Madison! Got everything all locked up and I am heading to bed! Nighties! Terri O

(PS) Dan--I forgot to tell you that your new pup looks just like the brother of the JRT that we have! His name was Crumb. He and his Mom found new homes and the little female stayed with us...now she is a chicken hunter....*sigh*

It should not matter how hot your room gets, your bator should not spike.. that is what the thermostat is for.. unless the room gets up to 102 degrees, your thermostat should shut off and then where would the heat come from? all I can say is, take the time before you set eggs to get your bator set up..

have a turkey just about hatched.. egg is dated for the 15th, but these turkeys go anywhere from 26 to 28 days.. same with the guineas..

Annie's cockatiel layed her first egg tonight.. she spent a long time in her nest box today, so we figured she was getting close.. I have not seen it yet..

Annie found the hidden guinea nest.. 30 eggs in it.. we got no guinea eggs in either coop today, gee, I wonder why?? She took only 24 eggs out and left the rest so that they don't go make a new nest.. they still might, but the odds are against it.. If any of you ever run into this problem, mark a few of the eggs.. then the next time you collect, take the marked ones and mark a few of the new eggs.. that way you never end up with old eggs in the nest..

I got all of the fronts, backs and sides of the drawers cut out today.. even dadoed them for the bottom board.. bought some 3/8" plywood from home depot for the bottoms.. still have to dado the sides to the fronts and backs. then I have to go back to maynard's and see if the glides came in yet..

Must be the day to find guinea nests. I knew where one was but DH found another one today. I'll post pictures tomorrow or ???? I'm to tired now !!!! Arrgghhh don't know what I"m going to do with you DrHa and Jim !!!! I was to tired to respond to your kind words !!!

Anyway the neighbor also found a nest with 28 eggs and they only have 6 guineas. They are from eggs I hatched last year. They don't want the guineas any longer so DH and I took the golf cart down to fetch the eggs and the hen. She didn't make a very well hidden nest like mind did. I was afraid to even leave her there tonight in that nest. After seeing what a predator did to one of my hens last year on a nest in the tall grass behind my house.

Not knowing what to do with her and her eggs we decided to put her in our large chicken run. It doesn't have a cover but it does have 6' walls. I suggested we put a dog house in the run with a bunch of hay, put all 28 eggs in it then keep her in the run with the dog house and eggs. So we got her home, clipped her wings and for the night (we did this at 10pm) we put a piece of plywood up against the side of the run and then slid the dog house up against it. So she is forced to stay in the dog house with the eggs until morning. That way she wouldn't be freaking out all night. My guineas actually sleep on the boards running across that run (we intended on covering it so it has alot of boards for support) and they often jump down into the coop. So hopefully she will adjust in there and have others come and join her. We might go get the other 5 tomorrow night. Now sure if we will just release them in the yard with ours or maybe clip their wings as well and put them in the run with some more dog houses or let them go into the coop with the chickens since they are in the neighbors coop at night, except the hen on the nest.

We are working on making nice secure pens for the call ducks. Started the project today. How come the plans and ideas come into your head so quickly but it takes so long to accomplish the job ????? Geez !!!

Ok, time to go through some more tax papers. I was suppose to be doing that all ready.
I think your eggs will be find you guys that had bator malfunctions.

Just an FYI i candled the muscovie duck eggs that the hens were on and now are off and there are a few blood spots like they have started to develope. How long can they be off the nest before the eggs would quit?

Ok, CRS, must be catching , later.

Well I am really impressed! The GF chocolate cake was excellent! TO I should bring you one for the bash, it was just amazing! Even the kids ate it up and they knew what was in it! The bread was really good too! I made it in my bread machine to save time and it worked out well. Everyone enjoyed it, my MIL was impressed with the texture and taste so thumbs up for me!

Sounds like my BIL and the person he resides with are getting closer to splitting (we can only hope). They did not show up for Easter...... oh well. I would have liked to see my niece and nephew and my BIL.

I suppose I should go to bed....... I think I took too many naps today! I crashed at my in-laws house after taking an hour nap here at home.....

Night all!

Thanks, I guess I'll just wait and see.

I candled a few that were good 5 days ago and all I can see now is a "blob" didn't see movement.

But its harder to see now. That's why I do it at 10 days. If those chicks are dead I'm going to make that kid bury them. I might even open one. If it was a stupid accident I wouldn't be so p!ssed. But no way could anyone miss that sign! And her mother keeps bragging that she's an advanced reader, NO EXCUSE!

LOL yep Jim, found a guinea nest with about 15 eggs in it. I think those "boys" might be a bad influence on my girls though... I'm finding more eggs just scatted around the yard too!

Ken... I had that problem a couple of times with my hens. I removed her and let recover in her own pen. Then I brought a low/middle hen to her pen. She was now high in HER pen. Then I brought another in a little higher rank. after a few days I put them all back as a group. It worked twice for me. Worth a try.

Night All.

did it again, went to bed before midnight.. woke up hours ago.. the newest turkey is about half out of it's shell.. taking a nap now..

It just started raining here about a half hour ago.. that's good.. cool things down and might keep the strong storms at bay.. Nora was sleeping on the dick so I let her in before she was completely soaked..

Neighbors called yesterday.. wanted to know if I wanted the manure spread on the garden or dumped on a pile.. spread it, thank you.. IDK if they showed up last night or not.. these guys work all night long..

TerriO, no sign of life with the quail eggs.. I will give them a couple of days yet..
and BTW, are you stalking me? we posted right on top of each other last night..that didn't sound good.. we posted at the same time last night..

good morning everyone,

We are supposed to be in for severe Weather this afternoon and tonight. Stay safe. The girls are upset it is raining, they all ran out of the coop, got rained on and ran back in. Being very vocal about it too.
