Banty's = EVIL.....

Raim, the furnace my DH picked up is one for inside your basement. Cannot have an outdoor furnace in town.

Going to do another 'Trash the dress" photo shoot soon so I had to pull out the dress and make some minor repairs to the bustle. My WONDERFUL 12 yr old DD stepped up to the plate and stood patiently for 1/2 an hour in the neighbors lawn while I did the repairs to the button loops and then tried to get the dang train bustled up properly. I cannot WAIT to go out in it again.... it is so pretty. What a steal for $35...

Watched Letters to Juliet last night. Cute movie but I bet the book is even better, I would like to read it.

Did some weeding today in the front beds... not a whole lot but enough to let people know that yes I AM going to take care of all that crabgrass eventually.

Trying to figure out what is going on with my Jeep. The console keeps stating No Bus, the window controls only work at the main drivers panel, and the stinking thing does not always let the key-fob work locking and unlocking the doors....... frustrating when it is the electrical system. MY DD has to use this vehicle for her driving test in a few months so I would love to get it in working order.

Ducks are still setting, they are really funny in there chatting away if you peek on them.

Yah think?!
I have the silkies for the boys coming in June. I had favorelles coming with them, but I am changing my mind on that. But I don't have enough bantams to make an order. So I have to fill with more bantams, or a couple full sizes. My thinking was full sizes growing up with bantams might help be protectors because I am going to TRY to have them all together in the one coop.
So now what do you have to say sassy girl? I can get Buff Orps, Delawares, or Exchequer Legs to fill the order. Or I could get a few more bantams, but then I felt they would really look conspicuous with no LF growing up with them and the integration.

I'll throw my 2 cents in for what it's worth..... we have both large fowl and bantam and after trying to raise the chicks together and then put all the girls together we found it didn't work out well at all. The bantams were picked on by some and in turn picked on others. We now keep the 2 sizes separate which means another pen but it seems that everyone is much happier. We didn't see the larger chickens protecting the bantams to much degree, the bantams were more like easy targets! Of course a different mix of chickens might work.

Broody mom is doing great with the two adopted babies!!!

SO has been saying that the broken glass on the bird feeder in the front yard was a bear based on the claw marks etc...the past few days. Well tonight both girls saw a bear in the driveway-and this one would be too short to reach the feeder-so that means more than one? UGH! Anyone have any issues with bears bothering their chickens? Not sure how much of a fortress I would need to keep bears out.

Good evening--not too much chatting today! Guess everyone must have been outside enjoying the sunshine. Funny that you did your front beds BL4...so did I! I dont think too many people actually notice the rock garden in the front as they fly by at 55 MPH...but it makes me feel better when someone actually drives in. I feel that it might "offset" the mess of junk that DH has around...sometime I sure would like to get all the parts etc cleared out and put somewhere "else." Like at the neighbor's place? LOL!

Several hens have hatched babies in the ceiling of the coop again. I put some crumbles and some water up there until I can climb up and see what's up. I found a nice fat (and dead) Black Aussie looking chick at the door of the inside coop this morning. Must have hopped down and couldnt get back up there...time to get them down. I set another hen that wants to be broody today. I put her on some pure eggs so I hope she sticks!

Made some ribs and sauerkraut tonight in the slow cooker...MMMM! It turned out good. DH wanted to know why I only put 3 whole carrots and 3 ribs in there with the potatoes, kraut and onions...I told him that I was tired of people not eating leftovers and having to feed it all to the chickens! He has a problem with left overs unless I make them into something else. (So there)

BL4--DH says that the only way to properly figure it out is to have it scanned at a Jeep dealer. It is something about the computers in the vehicle not communicating with each other. He says many people are saying that then they have starting problems too. He says you should get it checked sooner than later...maybe an independent shop can test it--he didnt know if their scan tool could do it or not though. (good luck!)

Gotta go out and lock up I guess...weeding must make me really tired...or maybe it was moving all those rocks? Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O

ETA: BEARS??? Sheesh--no thanks!

Thanks TO, my DH keeps telling me it is the CSM.... I am wondering if the whole computer needs to be replaced. It would be nice to have the whole car working properly again.....

I have been scouting around on the Jeep forums to see if I can figure it out ( of course the diesel mechanic and car expert knows better than me) and all of my suggestions have been overruled.

I suppose I should check on the duck eggs.....

Missed the discussion on bantys-why do you think they are mean? My favorites are my bantys. And I have bantys and LF mixed together-no problems at all. In fact the bantys are my LF Roos favorite girls and they are inseperable. I have chicks coming in June-2 bantys and 6 LF sure hope there wont be integration issues with them

My DH was attacked twice by a banty roo when he was 2. The second time the roo attacked his face and then met the wrong end of a shotgun. My DH has perfect claw mark scars by both eyes from that roo, it also gave him a permanent scar on his upper lip.

I know all animals have their own personalities and that some are worse than others and it is not fair to blame an entire breed on the actions of one animal, but I DO know that there is no way we will ever own banty chickens.

I think they are cute but I have heard they have not so great personalities.

So I am confused-I thought all breeds came be either banty or LF-am I wrong? Which would lead to either a particular birds personality or a particular breed characteristic?

I have three bantys-one is a top hat mix (lays green eggs)-"Opal-"who follows me around to be picked up. My other is a mix of some sort (was told cochin-which is doubtful) golden with face muffs and feathered legs-again "Petunia" wants to be held-will fly up to me if I have treats etc. And one other mixed with muffs/feathered feet-who has slipped hocks-I am "Ahmelais" mom and take her out to the grass each day as she can't really walk very well....she coos when she sees me.

What are others experiences with bantys vrs LF-is there a personality difference or is it just more particular birds and their personalities?

Well I guess I'll have to see. I still need to have a couple of LF added to my silkies for the order to go through. I do have the mini coop which would hold the silkies. But it HAS to be reinforced. It holds 6 bantys and i'm getting 5. But if there are any babies (and there is a silkie roo coming) I will be hosed. My nice big coop would be so much better. I guess all I can do is try and seperate if I have to.

The Wheatens seem to be better. They are getting big. I still have the light on them and they"re a month old.

Hmm.... I do not know the breed. My DH tells me they were charcoal colored or almost black. Any suggestions from the pros here????

Candled some of the eggs. I know it is early but I see signs of development so Checkers is doing his job!
