Don't want to bore the rest of the chicken people !! lol

How many calls do you have ? I thought you only had one ? Hope your hatch goes well. Are you going to lay them on their side for lockdown or upright?
lol
I have the one adult male, he lost his love about what a month ago. I found someone near by that had 1 lone duckling (going to be white) they also had a crested so I got a buddy for the call. should have gotta 2 crested. I also got 9 started call eggs from him. they're "cooking" on their sides and staying on their sides till they hatch. 50% humidity. lol 99-100 temps. oh and I'm picking up 2-4 more calls on Thursday. they hatching now Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.... don't tell my DH
I'm transfering these 2 ducks into a bigger brooder with wire bottom. they are MESSY! (ps I knew that) lol
ok gotta go
later

LOL!!!!! You must think I have money! That is quite a bit for that horse...of course I havent seen him or ridden him....Unless that guy is really short I dont thing I have EVER seen a KM that size! WOW! Maybe that is why he is costly?

I think BL4 is incubating the eggs UNDER her duck so I guess they would be on their sides...
I have heard or maybe read about cooling goose and duck eggs a bit each day...also misting them with water. I think it says that in my incubator book.

Speaking of geese...this is what I saw out my window this morning:

I had to zoom a bit--this was out the 2nd story window...sorry about the blur! There were 13 out there...another nest must have hatched!

I made shepherd's pie for the people today...I am going to Walmart to pick up knitting needles and then to a knitting class! (just what I need, another hobby!) Though I'd at least try my hand at it. I learned in 5th grade and never knitted again! I wanna make chicken sweaters and open my own Etsy shop!

Anyone else notice the big black flies today? Man they are just huge...I think I will set up the fly traps tomorrow!
I gave the inside ducks and geese some grass today...they were terrified of it! Then the geese and the guinea got into it...the ducks not so much.
Tortoises are happy it was sunny today--I think they had grins on their faces... is that even possible?
Definite babies above the coop. It is my silver hen. I just fed and watered them up there today...too sore to try and climb up there and scurry around just waiting to fall down in the coop! I counted 6 babies.
Frankie the duck still only has 2 following her...the black and white didnt lose any last night.
Two guineas sitting in the box on their eggs in the coop...at least I will know when they hatch! Then I can look for others around the farm.

Neat bear! I think you have to stop feeding honey to your birds! I did not realize that bears even ate bird seed...or do you have some suet or woodpecker food in there? MIne has cherries in it...I am glad we dont have bears here! (although one was spotted in Watertown last year or 2 years ago!)

OK--time to feed dogs and then off to knit! Have a great night everyone! Terri O

Afternoon All!

Well, just wanted to get caught up here! Nothing hatching on the quail front....I'll give them a few more days then pull them.
I got the meaties out in the lawn for a few hours. I wanted to clean their spot in the coop/barn and it was fun to watch them do...nothing! LOL!! A few flopped on their sides and attempted to "dust bathe" That was funny to watch. The roosters all sat around and looked bored and the two hens at least attempted to eat grass....I'll be glad when they are gone.....They are getting to be a lot of work to keep clean. I think the next batch of meaties will be those Red Rangers....

I'm deciding on who to get rid of chicken wise.....I want to pair down the flock. If anyone has kids in 4-H/FFA who are looking for some show quality birds, I have two LF Rhode Island Reds that came from Joshua DeLong's stock. I've got a pair-Abner and Prudence. They are very sweet birds and very friendly. I was never into RR's to show so I don't know if they are going to be award winning exhibition birds or not but they should do well in showmanship. Let me know if anyone is interested in them....I got them as friends for Ben.....I'd love to keep then but I feel it's a shame not to get them into some ones hands that can use them for what they are....

I though the price on the KMH was rather high too. Maybe he doesn't really want to sell him so the owner figures if some one is serious they won't bulk at the price. I actually had to look up what a Kentucky Mountain Horse is....never head of them before. I've heard of a Rocky Mountain Horse.....Odd since both breeds are from the same state. Maybe people had a difference of opinion and fans of each gait went different ways and registries? Hmmmm...
I think I'll stick with Foxtrotters....

OK, off I go.....later!

Guess what we caught on Trail CAM in our front yard last night??? After the bird feeder again.Scary thing is-this is larger than the ones the girls saw-plus there were videos of one 2 hrs early out there as well...thinking there are several. I need a little reasurance-has anyone had or heard of bears attacking kids or chickens? (There are plenty of food sources available right now-and havent seen signs of cubs)

Terri O: The bears are touching the suet feeder which is lower. Someone said its the sunflower seeds they go after.

EarthLday: My sentiments exactly!!!! Especailly since we think there have been two different ones in the past 2 days
