Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, Annie is not coming home for breakfast, so I did not make a fresh pot O java.. so I am drinking yesterday's rewarmed up mud.. YUK !!

DDan, in order to please everybody who responded so far, you are going to have to get at least 10 different breeds of chicken, and so far, none of the breeds you originally wanted..

stick to your selections, and somebody will have them for you.. I was going to have a lot of barocks, but my rooster turned out to have some "strange" background.. I ended up with about 60 mutts.. I am looking for a real barock rooster to try again..

My Delaware eggs are noticeably larger than the barock's ..

Ha ! CC,, I wear white socks.. the mental image of me in a tu tu keeps ME awake..

All of the women here swear more than the men do.. sure they have softer voices, but they still swear under their breath.. A LOT !!!!

the call ducks are scheduled for 4/29 .. and no, I do not candle.. I have a hard enough time just to keep track of what should come out and where I am going to put some more in..

Annie asked me how many chicks I had in the outside brooder.. I told her about 35 to 40.. It is really closer to 100.. I don't want her holloring about the feed bill..

I tried to put those cross breeds on craig's list.. but I have to re-log in there before it will accept my ad.. the Delaware babies are looking real nice, though..

Yesterday my colored roo and two of the Thai roos got into a real fight.. lots of bloody combs.. I have to separate my colored roo if I want to use him for my pullet hatch..

I just have to get my rear in gear and take some pics and post on craigs list.. I have about 8 too many roosters.. 5 of them are thai roosters

well, I have about a dozen babies to take out of the hatcher and get out to the brooder..

later,,,,,,,,,,,, ..........jiminwisc....

Good morning! Another one of those was sunny now cloudy days! DrH we cant call Dan dd22 cause they we will think he is a girl! Lots of us already use that for our daughters so we must call him simply Dan. Pretty easy hey?

Good sign RAIM! I have that one printed out and hanging on my fridge already...
Cind I knew that she had a clutch somewhere--tis the season ya know!

So am going to post the pics this morning...hopefully it works better than last night. I was SO MAD when I deleted that whole post...of coarse it was a good one!
Silver brought down MOST of her chicks from the ceiling of the coop. I had to grab 4 I think. I guess they were too scared to jump!

Here is Super Mama with her 4 chicks. She got off her nest early I think so I popped the other eggs into the bator. Not sure if they are good or not but I hate tossing them and then seeing movement KWIM?

As you can see Turk's Baby has been covering all the hens that stay out...I spotted yet ANOTHER turken baby....who was it that loves Turkens again? I think I will have a whole flock here shortly!

My last batch of test chicks are growing up! Here you can see the twins (Modern Games) and Eli. It is hard to believe that Eli is the same age as the twins! There bodies are about the same size as the chicks! They are much friendlier though. Eli will jump up on the gate when I go down there to feed them.

Here is a shot of my Ajuga Reptans that is taking over the lawn by the hayfield side of the yard. I just LOVE it! It is spreading out in drifts and looks so pretty with the dandelions! Agter the flowers die off we will mow the area and then it looks just like "lawn" The best part is that it overpowers the Creeping Jenny! It is a bit past its prime in this shot...the grass is getting too long already....what a weird spring!

So that's the tour....wonder what I will find when I go out today? I think I will take the camera just in case! Have a fantastic day everyone! Terri O

ETA: Jim--life is too short to drink yesterday's coffee! You are worth it, make yourself a new pot!

Jim... and we love ya for it!

TerriO... your ajuga is gorgeous... I have some nice patches of it, but other places I wish it would take off. Mine seems to like some shade.
What breed is your silver ( ihave a silver too, although he is silver surfer my gorgeous splash silkie roo)??? She is very pretty.

Oh and I am NOT the turken lover... they just look ugly to me... no offense... just me!

TO I'll take some of that Ajuga!

Eventful night last night. Ended up taking my mom to the ER. She was complaining of severe dizziness and was afraid it was her heart. Ended up being the balance sensors in her ears 'malfunctioning'. There is something causing pressure to build up on the inside of the semi-circular canals so in turn they are sending haywire messages on her balance. She is on some medicine for it, but I gotta say WHY does this crap always happen at 10PM? Crawling in to bed at 2 AM is no longer 'fun'. I am so grateful I have a great boss, I am 2 hours late for work and heading out the door right now......

Catch you all later.

Hey guys... I'm thinking about making a special brooder for the upcoming ducks. Someone on here said they have a wire mesh floor so the duck poo falls through? Does that work? I would DETEST cleaning out a brooder 3x a day!!!

Also can chicks go into a brooder like that, with a wire floor? Just curious. I have a big wire dog crate that has a pull out tray. I thought about taking small enough hardware cloth and having a floating floor in the crate. Then I could just pull out the tray to clean. Does that sound like a good idea? Bad? Opinions please. I've never had ducklings before, but the almost grown ones sh!t a lot!

Jim, if I bring a tutu to the bash, will you wear it? (said while fluttering my eyelashes with a coquettish cock of my head to charm you) :D

I just finished taking the new chicks out to the brooder.. turned out to be 2 duckllings and 24 chicks..

I have wire mesh floors in all of my pens.. for the chicks, I put in a thick layer of straw. that keeps the pen warmer by preventing cold drafts from below.. and the water that gets spilled still can drain away.. a good feature when there are ducks or geese in there..

I don't like to have just bare wire under them ,, they catch their toes in it sometimes..

the tray feature is a good addition.. I have that in the main coop.

I did manage to get an ad onto wausau craigs list for chicks for sale..

Now I am going to try craigs northern wisc..

I am new to this forum and when researching how to find a processor, I was directed to find my fellow Wisconsinites. Does anyone know any public or private processors near Eau Claire, WI? I have 10 meaties that will be ready in 6-7 weeks and about 8 more birds in the fall. Let me know if you know anyone,
Thanks!!
