Msschneid how come you don't just butcher them yourself , or is that you can't or just attached to them? They have an excellent tutorial on this site for doing it . You could also set it up with the Amish to butcher them for you and do a barter or exchange of cash with them. I know one thing I am not a country boy love fishing and everything , but City life is for me , 5 min bicycle ride from the job, 10 mins from the lake , I know ,neighbors are closer but it is a trade off. . Do most of you get attached to the birds that you raise and never butcher them and just kind of let them die off? I guess easer to say it than do it .

You built a coop the same as us (except we made ours look like a shed).

We are new to the chicken world as well and my husband (DH) plans to cull the roos himself. The info regarding a processing location is of great interest (just in case he decides he can't do it)

All of the new babies are cute, congrats to you all.

Just my 2 cents again, but we do have another Dan here, so how about dyno and Unk for the 2 Dans? To avoid too much confusion? Like Terri said, we do use DD or dd often when referring to darling daughters around here.

dyno, I am one who doesn't butcher my birds. I have a 10 year old bantam roo named Jack. He is a wonderful surrogate mom to the chicks I raise.

Afternoon All!

*sigh* What to blab about....Ummm.....Oh I had another quail hatch last night. Right after I hit the lights at 11:30 to go to bed I kept hearing a very insistent peep in the brooder. Got up and stuck the little tyke in the brooder with the rest. He looks like everyone else this morning.
I'll toss the egg tomorrow.

The Girls are fine but rather complainly. I have no idea why. After I spent the morning tripping over the Gold Stars, I figured out that complainy and whiney = begging for scratch treats...Silly things.

DH helped me seperate some of the young rabbits yesterday. So all the boy are in one cage and all the girls in another. 2 girls and 4 boys on Maggie's crew...
Processing day is around the corner. I keep saying that but after we sexed them I weighed them and some of then need to but on a littler more weight.

The meat chickens are almost ready to process. I'm thinking end of next week. I think the next go around with for meat birds, I'm getting those freedom rangers/red rangers. I'm tired of cleaning out the nasty meatie habitat every day....This group has been a lot less mobile then Cornie every was. But Corney had friends that made him move. These are just slugs....

MSS-There are a few poultry processors in WI. The one I know of is Twin City Pack down in Clifton. There are a few ways to go to find one closer to you give your local 4-H or FFA group a call. They should now of who processing your area or they should know who you can call. If they don't, you can try a call into your county fair's office. They should have that info as well since they provide that for the auction buyers at the fair auctions. Your counties extention office might have that info to. HTH and good luck!

Dan22-Barred Rocks and Wyandottes are terrific chickens! I say go for what you want! Besides you are not the only guy on here who gushes about chickens...I wont name names....DrH...but there are more here then you might think. My DH is one of them although he does not grace these pages and thread though.....He's been gushie over chickens for more then 40 years....

Jim right click on the picture click on "save picture as" (name it and save in your pictures folder so you can find it.)
then go into your profile here on BYC (top of MOST pages) and under your picture click on replace avatar (yours might say add avatar) click on browse and find the picture in your computer click on it and click on open then click on submit. I'd do it for you but I would need passwords and all lmbo!
