A newbie here...
I'm looking for someone with 6-8 large layers in a movable coop, that has used it for at least a full year, located between Wisconsin Dells and Madison (I'm just outside Prairie du Sac) that would welcome a visitor with a few questions about how it all works and or can post pictures.
I just can't seem to combine the idea of a movable tractor with 6-8 large chickens - giving them enough room to not turn on each other during our winters.
I'm finding TONS of info here on BYC but really would like to connect with someone that has, essentially, what I want in my climate. Movable coop. 6-8 layers (Barred Rock, Buff Orpingtons, SL or GL Wyandottes). My husband is finally on board so I need to move quickly! :)

Hi there! Welcome to the best thread on here. ;) I'm just outside of Prairie du sac too! I don't have the set up you're looking for, but you're more than welcome to pick my brain (be quiet everyone!) and see my set up. I am a very quiet but kind person who does NOT have a problem with chicken math... Nope... Not me... (again be quiet all!) PM me (click on my name and do personal message if you want) to chit chat with out the others EAVESDROPPERS reading... :D

My old co-worker who does organic farming took a old trampoline and madea chicken tractor from it , he used all the old aluminium framing material then built a house in it and covered the outside with hardwire and chicken wire on the base:) If you want a chicken tractor drawn up in google sketch up just let me know thats how I did my coop and its pretty fun laying em out. I though of doing one like an old store front lol or saloon

Hey all--so you know how to do that Dan? COOL! I would love to build a chicken coop like a Hobbits home....I do have a picture, can you make it into a plan?

I have used chicken tractors but only for one season. I dont think they would be too happy in one over the winter. IMHO.
JIm...I am in awe of your hatching stories~so cool.
OK---back to the weeding! Later all! Terri O

Good Fish Fry Friday To All... We are going to have deeep fried swai tonight. I love all fish and need to buy fish from time to time... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iridescent_shark

Thanks for the links on the leeks. I posted pics and a long thread earlier today when jennie stopped by, however I see now it never showed up..what the heck? They are really common and in everyones hardwoods.

I recommend magees feeds in embarrsass for this area. Let's talk at the bash about why I support them.

Nice pics Cind...I said that before, but the post didn't show up....

Doc....keep touching and fondle the important stuff that matters....one needs to syke for the hunt and be prepared for the silent one that's sneaken in and trying to mate your coys....

IMy Tom Cat LitL'Boy was sick with a swollen shoulder....Jennie took him to the vet, and he was bit by something (prolly another outside tom) and has infection and a 104 temp...the vet drained the wound, shot of antibiotic and sent the boy home with pills for a week...tuff to see the nice boy down...he is one of those really gentle soft hearted boys. Kinda like me.

Jennie said she might be able to stop by tomorrow and post pics again for me.

Hi I went out in the back yard and looked around for some wild leek but only came across a TON of this. Is this young wild leek or no?

I also found another good size patch of blueberries :)

And just because , here is a pic of some of my flock they are 8 1/2 weeks old. They are actually on the outside of the fence they were watching DS get the waterer out of the coop and probubly wondering if he had treats for them lol

Evening all!

Not much here to report...oh wait...yes there is! So tonight I was topping off rabbit water and feed dishes and handing out treats to all the critters and when I was done and leaving to coop, I heard a hen get a feather pulled by another hen. "Ouch" That had to hurt!" I thought to myself...Then it happened again. I was like Geez! What is going on?!!?? Then it happened AGAIN!! So now I'm like "That is not a feather being pulled! That is a crow!" Yikes! So thinking it was a meatie roo that decided to get up the gumption to crow, I looked through the window in the door to see who the culprit was...Nope not a meatie...There he was in all his stupid pre teen rooster glory choking on a crow and flapping his mottled wings....Ben the Rooster..... *sigh*
Now I have to make a Ben habitat in the basement for the stupid bird......Grrrrr....

Other then that not much happened. Meeting up with TO on Tuesday to pawn off....I mean....deliver the quials to her....Wooo Hooo!!

Oh we took Buddy to the vet today. He is DH's dog. Anyway, way back in October Buddy was having trouble getting up so we took him in to have him check out. He had a cruciate (knee) issue and the Doc said rest was needed to help heal the torn ligament. She also saw some arthritis going on. She but him on Carprophen and he was much improved. Well, he was fine up until 2 weeks ago. It was like he hit a wall with his medications. He was having trouble getting up and tries to avoid stairs. So we went today and found out that his knee in worse then it was in October. Unfortunately, their x-ray machine was not working today so I have to take him back next week. But the vet said at this point we have three options. An orthopedic consultation, surgery, or managing his pain/condition with medications. Poor DH is beside himself. It's looking like surgery will not be an option due to Buddy's age and size. Plus the after care is rather intense. So, we will see how he responds to different medications, wait until we get him x-rayed and then see where we will go from there. At least with the new medications, he is more comfortable.

Dan22-Abendroth's is great! Rick is very nice and he has nice birds. A number of mine are from him....The meat birds I have right now are from him...as are my Gold Stars....Love them!
You can also pick them up at his place if you don't want to have them shipped....

Lillisllamas-Welcome to out corner of BYC!!

Apyl-love your flock!!! Both of them! LOL!!

Well, I've got to go clean the kitchen from making cookies...later!
