Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good sunny morning to you to DrH and everyone else! Sure is nice to see that blue sky out there!
Ken--sounds like you have a rough week ahead! I had to read your post first cause the first time I didnt get the connection that you took the class and THEN went to work on cars and drink beer!

I first thought that was part of the class...but then I got to the beer part and had to reread.

Yes the bash is kinda like camping but way easier! There is a full kitchen and lots to eat so you dont have to bring too much in that department except for your dishes to pass. Also there is a shower and even a bunkhouse if you dont have a tent or camper! The best part is the fire ring and the companionship way into the night right guys?

So today I go to pick up my Bob's. I am meeting MLH for coffee so I guess I shouldnt drink too much here at home...then I am going over to the lady's house that bought chicks (the one she returned died last night) to give her ideas on how to turn her corn crib into a chicken coop. THat should be fun. I can put some lovin' on her cria and baby mini horse! She loves my farm...I love hers. Total opposite in farms!

SO I guess it's happy May Day to you all...my DH was telling me how it is a Communist holiday....oh brother.

RAIM--that is an excellent idea about the built ins. I had a room like that as a kid. shelving along the walls that was perfect for my books next to the bed and the dresser went into the knee wall too. Saved a whole lot of space!

Well, DD tells me she needs 6 dozen eggs today...better get to it! Have a great one! Terri O

TO- I'll keep you posted on any extras once DD and I look everyone over, our friend who is the 4-H poultry leader is going to help us too :)

Have fun with the Bobs!!

MLH- I guess this means you don't check books out from the library?? I am able to down load and read books from our ipad and I find that easier than reading off a computer screen but I'll read books too! Some I would perfer in book form and not ebook :)

Back to the papers- or mail person comes at all different times so if I want to mail a letter I have to get it out asap

Well I had a busy weekend, I am now "dog sitting" and doing some basic training of a 2 yr old blue/tri colored male Aussie.. he is currently rolling around on the floor and upside down in the living room here with me. He came from a slag heap of a farm, where an Eskie has gone nuts and bites if touched (caused by his owners WHOM have had him all his life), a Yorkie who had puss and goop in her eyes so bad she couldn't see, a Scottie who desparately needs a home. And this poor Aussie who was inside and loved as a puppy, then shoved out into a fenced yard with a section of a barn or shed set up as their shelter.
He had not had a collar on EVER till sunday, never been leash trained, never been restrained, not house broken...BUT great around horses, LOVES people, seems to really respect cats and birds.
So I get him for 2 weeks to "tame him", and get him neutered, bathed, house trained (well started!!) and some basic leash training.

My broodie Jaerhon cross hatched out 4 chicks, I took a white/yellow one and a pullet, and left her with two males (purebred jaerhons). One disappeared.. and she didn't want to set anymore.
I salvaged 4 eggs and have them in the incubator. I candled them and saw Large dark masses so HOPED the chicks might still be alive.

I had them in the turner.. and saw a pip yesterday.. so moved them to a flat spot in the bator..
AND soon! I found this fellow.

I am 90% sure its a boy, jaerhon, with the amount of yellow on the head.
Well I am off to to grocery store, to my friends farm to introduce his new dog to his horses, cats and goats.
Then to feed my flock, and then to a clients home to muck stalls, then home for laundry and dishes...
the funniest thing about Bo (formerly Demon- yes I know. WOW who would name a dog that??)
He grins, not the happy lolling tongue.. he does that too.. but when he is anxious to please he grins by bearing his teeth
like a human grinning.. he is a hoot!! Now that he is coming out of his shell..
The fun part will be introducing him to a crate.. BLEH!

He's a handsome fellow! I probably will not show my DD the pictures- she thinks that the merle color is soooo cool! I offered to add some color to Ellie and turn her into a merle- DD didn't think it was so funny.......

Hi, just popping in for a minute. I got the house done and started outside. Seeing the silkie reminded me I posted a couple weeks ago on the disease/injury thread but got no responces. So I thought I would ask here. I have a Partridge Silkie that has a lump/growth in front of one of its eyes. I am just wondering what is it? It eats, drinks, runs (in a zig zag) , and is about the same size as the others so it doesn't seem to affect it. Any ideas?

I get to pick my chickens up Monday 5/7 from Abendroths hatchery
I ended up buying 2 Barred rocks, 1 austrolop, and 1 silver wyandotte that should be a nice mix of chickens, picked up shingles for $10 a bundle off of craigslist should be able to finish the roof on the coop this week.
I have a question when building a brooding box for the chickens is there a minium height you want to do? I was planning to keep the chickens in the basement for the first 4 weeks or so.
PS I am glad i am not a Pastor people wouldn't like to hear my piece of mind on touchy subjects

CC... I'll get you yours as soon as I have something to drive again....having trouble getting parts for that old van.

Cind, I don't think I'll be getting those lavs from Carol. Her bator had some issues. So I think I'll wait til next spring for some Doms. I would still like to get a roo for Terri if they have one, though. Could you just bring one along to the bash, maybe? If not, no problem. I don't want you to make an extra trip if you don't have to.

Hey all beautiful; day here.......... a tad breezy though, but I sure won't complain......
Have a question tho, didn't someone here have a bunch of RIR roosters for sale? I would like 1 if possible and if they ain't mean, where are you at?
I want to add a couple sex links to my flock and need a roo to cover my stray hens BR, BO, and WR's............... I know the BR x RIR will give me a BSL.... but what about the other 2 BO, and White Rocks, what would I get besides a cross, are they also sexlinked or no? I will have to find that old thread on sex links, I remember reading it when I first found this board, but not sure exactly where it went after the move....... so anyone pipe in with info on sexlink crosses. if ya know anything or have had a cross between any of these other 2,
These are my stray hens I ordered 5 Straight run got all boys and 1 hen in each....... so now I kinda have a few odd girls so.......... its either that or a bunch of different roosters NOTTTTTTTTTTTT I have 4 already 1 to butche, cuz he turned out to be mean, and my Del, who is going to be my main rooster for my Straight comb hens and my EE's who have graybeard as there roo, plus I have a stray WW roo that fits no purpose, other than he is super friendly, and is a good roo for size if I need him later, he is like 10lbs......plus he is a cutie...LOL with that huge ole rose comb, and long dangly wattles........ so anyway let me know........Kim

Where in WI?
I'm in southcentral, in the middle of nowhere by madison xD. Sorry it took so long to reply, I didn't have internet access for a little while. Oh, and an update, went from 11 ducklings to 7 in the past couple days :/ not sure what's going on, but the others all seem healthy.

Edit: Would you say this chick looks old enough to go outside with my pullets? I'm running out of room in the house after we invested in the ducklings :/ They get along just fine, and if it's supposed to frost or storm I can take them in
