Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Twizzle... Specific town...? I'm not far from you I think. I'm just outsid of Prairie du sac by the Wollersheim Winery.
Im by WollersheimWinery and I eat fancy cheeses with my fancy chickens, ducks and goats! lol That same person threw out a baited hook and I bit hard on some possible ducks for my DGF! So I mean everything I said in fun! lol

Jim, wood chips are for sure a N sink,,,,,use the old hay as that breaks down over the summer it makes a nice turn under next fall and the worms will love it. Ruth Stout method, very old school.

I had 80 yds of softwood chips here a few years ago,,,I turned them every 2 weeks all summer for 3 years,,,still smoking but little break down. I then added Urea to help with the process. total yrs 5,,,,still had a few noticeable chips when spread.

that said,,,,hardwood chips well rotted are an excellent soil additive, esp if made from small branches....fresh,.fine, hardwood sapling chips as a mulch maybe 1-2" all sorts of beneficial microbial results (European technique)

now I need to rest my head

WCC, LOVE that Aussie! What a beauty!

Ken, I could never make it as a Pastor...... I would be telling too many people to suck it up!

Oh my goodness what a day!!!!! All of you who live on the East side of Lake Winnebago in the Escarpment area, green with envy here! What beautiful counrtyside! Amy, you need to get some pics taken out at the parks we visited today...... just wow..... I spent the whole day getting photographed (and yes the camera still works....). We went to the little Calumet County park, the little marina south of that on EE, then headed back north to High Cliff.... I think we spent 4 hours at High Cliff alone! Good thing I brought a variety of shoes and clothing, the weather kept fluxuating! One minute I was hot, the next freezing..... All in all the scouting trip was a success! We found MANY places to get amazing shots! My only complaint: the LAKE FLIES!!!! They were so thick! You could hear them all flying around, it made a terrible high pitched buzz.... I hope in two weeks they will all be gone.

I think I got sunburned too....

no run tonight, I think all my hiking today made up for it!

Checked the eggs.... goofballs were trying to make a giant nest with two ducks on it so I separated them and made two nests again. Development looks good, a few look a little iffy and unfortunately I have one with a detached air cell (no idea how THAT happened) but I'll toss what needs to be tossed in a week or so.

Hi, just popping in for a minute. I got the house done and started outside. Seeing the silkie reminded me I posted a couple weeks ago on the disease/injury thread but got no responces. So I thought I would ask here. I have a Partridge Silkie that has a lump/growth in front of one of its eyes. I am just wondering what is it? It eats, drinks, runs (in a zig zag) , and is about the same size as the others so it doesn't seem to affect it. Any ideas?

Is the growth growing? It might cause a problem if it keeps getting bigger. I don't know what it could be, malignant or benign cancer or maybe a spot of infection the body keeps attacking. Hope it doesn't hinder the bird too much.

We've hiked at Calumet Co Park and really enjoyed it, great views from the top of the ski hill. And nothing beats High Cliff! So many different landscapes there. Did you hike along the lake-side bluffs at the top of the park? Just gorgeous. I really like the flat limestone areas on the way up, lots of interest in the layered rock. Plus there is a bridle path in the fields past the picnic area - even that is really scenic. You're gonna have some fantastic shots!

I had to pass along some bad news to my friend that I am incubating eggs for. I have a whole shelf of eggs with no development. I asked him about the eggs he got from the guy on CL which are not developing and the ones he gave me are developing. He then told me that the guy grabbed them out of the fridge and said he washed them. Not sure on the age of the eggs. Also the guy threw in a couple more that were in the coop and those were not cleaned and are developing!

Not sure if he is going to call the guy or not. I know if it were me I would not have bought the eggs in the first place.

Yes its growing, its almost doubled in size in 2 weeks since I first seen it.

Apyl... is she able to see clearly does it seem? I have one chick I wonder if she has good vision because she really looks at treats and tries to focus on them before eating... might just be a slow chicken... she is cute though. Hope your silkie baby is ok...

On a sad note kinda for me... of the 9 babies I have in my garage from our hatch or Carol provided me... I think 5 -6 are roos. I am sad because one is an EE that is absolutely gorgeous and sweet.
Ok experts... if an EE came from a blue egg, does that give it more of a chance of laying blue eggs? Is is for sure or just a better chance?

I'm pretty sure it's just a better chance. And yeah, my only EE that I got ended out being a roo. He is going to be a lavender-ish color and is such a personality, I'm making him his own flock with my silkie mixes lol. I couldn't let the little guy go

Oh, and Mazojoe, I have a dachshund too haha

He's my whole world haha. Almost lost him a few weeks ago :/

I'm a reader too! The hubs presented me with a Kindle Fire for my birthday and have been using it recently for the (ahem) Shades of Grey series. What? Nothing to see here! Move along people! Just finished a pile of books about the Civil War and then a memoir about an American soldier specializing in fighting the Vietcong within their underground tunnel networks so something COMPLETELY different was in order. Yup, that'd be completely different! I'm in the middle of the third book and am sad I'll be having to say goodbye to these characters soon!
I love books, the smell of the pages and print! One of my all time favs. But I don't like collecting them! Isn't that funny? The clutter I don't like! Except for my very favorites that I want to read over and over. This is why my daughter Chloe feels like the library is her living room. We're there all the time!
LOL, babylady I used to feel that way too, loving the heft, til one of my bookclubs went and landed a 700 page book and I kid you not, my forearms were so sore reading that bugger!
And you can bring all the books you might want to bring on a trip without alllll the weight or volume in your bag, backpack what-have-you! I must say it will never replace books totally for me but the Kindle is pretty darn nifty to have around.

Chloe and I had such an amazing time with Terri. She held day old chickies, fed turtles, smelled chicken "stinky town", got to see bitty little eggs, feed and ride a horse for the very first time! Awesome!!!!! Yeah, I must admit to being hesitant to posting her pix! Can't seem to bring myself to do it. Hopefully the two of us will meet oodles of you fellow Chicken Cheeseheads at the bash! Thanks Terri!

Our Chicken Tractor!!!! She's looking mighty yar!!!!! Just a few tiny tweaks and she's ready to welcome aboard some fine feathered friends! WooHoo!!!! Terri I'll be calling you again in hopes you can come on over and take a look! Maybe give this noob some additional tweaks to take care of before birdie residents move in! Which also means I'll be contacting Carol as well and see what birdies she has that might fit our bill over here!

Rather exciting! After the tweaks I'll post pix so stay tuned....

I love all the chickie pix y'all have been posting. Warms my heart.

And from the bottom of my heart Mazo, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.
