Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

"....Oh, and the mosquitos are HORRIBLE! What does everyone use to repel them? Last year I tried so many different products and nothing seemed to work longer than an hour tops. Thats if it even worked. Some stuff was didnt even phase the mosqitos. The 3M military cream worked good but costly and I am allergic to deep woods off. Any tips, ideas, anything ??"

If I am at home working in the yard, I keep a fan blowing on me. They can't land on you with a fan pointed at you. It's a pain to move the fan & the really long extension cord, but the effort is worth it if I don't have to spray myself with Off or Deep Woods. I occasionally use used dryer sheets and tuck them in my shirt and my waistband. That seems to work some but not when the mosquitoes are really heavy. I also like the Off smokers that you light and it lightly smokes a repellent. We use that primarily in the garage when we are working there with the double door open and that keeps them out. I've heard really good things about Avon's "Skin So Soft" from family members but I haven't used it myself. My sister swears by vitamin B1 and garlic capsules. I've also read to dab vinegar or peppermint or lavender essential oils on you and to wear light clothing.... Hope you find something that works for you!

HI!

ok, typing fast. Power is beginning to go down north of us so my guess is it will roll our way soon.

QUESTION~ Has anyone tried the "NITE-GUARD" solar ? According to the write up it's supposed to repel all night predators. It sounds intriguing and has some really great user feedback. I'm just curious if any of you have tried it. It's on the back cover of the latest Randall Burkey catalog but I found it cheaper with free shipping on Amazon.

Anyone have any of their own feedback/opinions on this product?

I think maybe CC has a couple of them. if not her than someone else on here has them for sure.

Hot Hot Hot here today...hiding inside and lazy today.

Here is one for Jim and the boys:

An elderly man was stopped by the police around 2 a.m. and was asked where he was going at that time of night.

The man replied, "I'm on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late."

The officer then asked, "Really? Who's giving that lecture at this time of night?"

The man replied, "That would be my wife."

No, sorry. It's not me. Someone quite a while back was looking for something to scare off preds and I posted a link to those. I can't remember who it was and if they ever tried them, though. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I don't have the night guard but I did rig up something that I used around my pig pen when I first put out my piglets. DH has since stolen the extension cord on me.
I took red mini christmas lights and black plastic sump pump tubing. I think it was 2" so I could get the plug through. I cut the tubing into about 1 foot long pieces and then hung the whole thing on their pen. I let 2 lights every so many feet exposed. Then my set actually had two ends that would flash so both ends flashed at different times.
Can't say if it worked or not but that's what I did. I have more I was gonna make but, well time is limited !!!

Hi all! I was glad getting off the road tonight! Man is it windy here! 90 degrees too...I have a few minutes to myself. DS23 and DD20 are picking up her BF at the bus stop and then they are all going to the beach to meet DD26 and her team for a v-ball game. I think they should cancel it! I have played in wind like this...talk about putting a little English" on the ball! I hate wind...it makes me agitated. Looking out the window I keep thinking I will see one of my big tree branches breaking off. I imagine there will be many nestlings on the ground tomorrow too!

I am SOOOO not used to the 9-5 routine! DOnt like to be gone from the farm that long...seems something always happens. Today one of the horses that just got summer shoes on got caught in a bit of green fencing underneath the ground in the back pasture. THat fence has been under there for 20 years and nothing has been caught on it....yup, I was gone today...

Sorry to hear of your pain Raim--if I were you I would go ahead and get the plates out. The recovery is not too long and maybe you will no longer have to have that pain?
Bigz the trees that I planted are suffering like yours...I put a couple down on the edge of our property and it is too far for me to carry those buckets! I guess I could get another200' of hose...might reach. THat is how I fill those waterers too; I drag the hose in behind me to fill them. Hey Cind...maybe you can win a hose in the raffle next year?

My friend is bringing her cat for me to look at...I dont know what she thinks I will/can do. I think it sounds like she has mastitis. Sheesh, take her to the vet and then GET HER SPAYED! Seriously, she has 8 or 9 female cats and they are ALL having kittens! That's like 50 more cats! At least we can eat our chickens if we make too many!

OK she's here...then off to 4H--later all! Terri O

Waiting to ride the storm out,,,,power flickering ,,,wind sucks

heard a story at the feed store this aft,,,,they delivered a $600 order to a woman west of Minoqua, south of Lac du Flambeau yesterday,,,goats, ducks, geese, chickens, turkeys, etc,,,,she called them this morning hinting at a refund,,,,every single critter was killed last night except for a couple injured turkeys still hanging in there. Carcasses missing, major mayhem,,,,,there is a pack of wolves in that area and guilty or not they are getting the blame. I would guess they are guilty,,,,,,my question was "how sound does that woman sleep?" ,,,I mean there had to be a major ruckus with that happening to that many critters,,,,,

anywho,,,best shut this down and go watch chit blow around the yard, so far only a few big white pine branches down,,,a pickup load or 2,,,

No Chit !!!! Poor animals.

I hope they didn't let her return it though. That would not be a good bio security measure for the next guy who buys it. She should just sell it CL or get more animals on CL after she finds out what happened of course. She must be on ambien !!! lol
