Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wow that was short lived!!! I meant to post a pic to ask all you plant and tree guru's what the heck is this gorwing? on my trees?
Mostly it's on the cherries and peaches. How do I get rid of it? Some of the leaves have it all over them and they get all curly and waxy. Thanks in advance!!

I hope she poops a big, wet nasty cecal one on your head.

Yes BBP, by whitish, I meant an extremely light brown egg. Sorry for the confusion. Cute hen, BTW.

Jim, I sure hope your puppy has a good home with the Amish. Personally, I do not care for the way they treat/regard their animals. Too funny the story about you getting honked at & missing the lights.

I had to read that one to DH. He laughed too.
MLH, how the heck did BTB reach to get the pull strings on your ceiling fan??????
ep.gif
That is one high-jumping kitty! He sounds just like how my Junior used to be. Never even had to look when we heard a crash. It was always Junior. Lil snot.

And we had 4 kittens at the time.

Lol! Marg, did you do a double take at my twin?
wink.png
It was a fun weekend, wasn't it?

Carol, hope you're feeling much better!

You too, FT & ET!

Vicki, trying to integrate a single bird into an existing flock can be rather challenging. The single bird will be pecked on constantly. Since you only have 4 birds, I'd get at least 2 if it were me, so they can pal around together. In my experience, whenever I add new birds, the new ones form their own little "click" in the flock, so I have different groups that like to hang around together. Safety in numbers kind of thing, perhaps. HTH, and good luck!

For your misfires, try mixing your calcium in with your feed for a few days & see if that helps. If you can get to the eggs before they crack them open, they might loose interest?
hu.gif
Good luck on that one too. I personally like Aussies and Doms as good flockmates. They are pretty even in size and temperament. I love my orps, but they are larger & tend to pick on my Doms & Aussies quite a bit. Just my 2 cents.

Twiz, cute chik pics!

Congrats on all the hatches!

Hooray, I am finally caught back up! I was 8 pages behind. Yesterday DH had a band gig, so much of the afternoon & evening were pretty well shot. It was an outdoor one. Can you say "Brrrrrr"?!?!? And I dressed for the weather! Shoulda brought a blanket. The weather was so nice today that we said screw it, let's ride and went for a nice long bike trip. That was fun. Now I'm pooped. Must sleep. CRS anyway, and if I missed anyone, I am sorry. Sweet dreams, all!
Thank you for the suggestion about 2, not one
big_smile.png
makes perfect sense and also gives me a very logical excuse (oops, reason
wink.png
) to give my hubby for getting 2 more chickens. I am probably going to wind up losing the one with "terminal" vent gleet anyway and I will be down to 3 birds.
I also like the breed suggestions. What do you think about Wyandottes? My current little flock are Aussie/Wyandotte crosses.

I have been dropping calcium into their pellets and even tossing handfuls on the ground in their run. This time the "misfire" was coming from the hen had been acting "off" for a couple days. She dropped one without the shell in the run (saw her) and the "rubber" one in the coop (and I suspect one more in the catch litter below the roost). Anyway, she seems to be fine now, however, now she doesn't lay in the nest box! After this morning I know for sure it is her that has started laying on the floor of the coop!

At least no one went after that egg anyway. Go figure.

Good Morning Everyone! Have been busy already. So much goin on with everyone can't keep track. Sorry! I'm having fun watching the roo's wear a path around the coop/run, all the hens are locked up. Have a good one! Back to work.

Good morning folks, great day in the north country

kris,,,only guess I have from that pic,,,coon

so,,,,,if you want to sell some eggs maybe get some endorsements,,,,had a good customer drop off this poster yesterday

She is a friend of his daughters and visited them a couple weeks ago,,,,he offered to make her "training diet" while she was here,,,breakfast specified 10 eggs!!! She ate them scrambled, not a huge fan of scrambled eggs myself I need to ask if she doused them in red stuff,,,,lol

back to the field..... starting to get hot out there

ok wildlife experts... need your thoughts. We have noticed that every night one of the 5 birdfeeders attached to a pole just outside the back door is knocked down every night. We were thinking deer or coon... but got these pics- huge cat? coon? woodchuck? porcupine? not sure... Notice the fuzzy lump in bottom left of bright pic. It is not there ( and nothing is still outside) in that corner so I am guessing that is our fiend... this is why I said porcupine...

Coon, and my two cents, if your going to trap it, kill it. Don't release an animal to be somebody elses issue. Also a trapped and released animal is an educated animal, and even harder to capture

Good morning....just came in to refill coffee and LOAD THE .22!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah! I got a racoon last night in the trap--FINALLY! I have to take care of it quick while DD26 is away cause she doesnt want me to shoot it. Right--it ate one of my calls, a mess of eggs, three 10 week only ducks, wounded a muskovy hen badly and also for one guinea (but not sure on that one!) So I finally got it with a duck egg, can of tunafish and a cookie and a marshmallow! I set two traps...one kind of as a pre-trap so I could get it befor it got to the ducks. It has a different route than I thought cause the last 3 duck eggs were eaten in the box....unless there are more...which I hope to find out tonight. I hate killing stuff, but this one has earned it!

FT--I am glad that you are going to get some help for driving! That guy sure does love his horses...I cant believe that all his clothes got torn off!
ep.gif
AND he's still alive! That tops my worst injury for sure! I guess I wouldnt be standing IN FRONT of a team of horses though.....
UnkaDan--what a fantastic endorsement! I think the guy should take all of our names and have one made for each of us!
Congrats on the hatches FT and Bigfam! I hope the little one with the curled toes is doing better today.

OK I have to get out and take care of "things" and move my soaker hose...just a little more to plant--Jim I sure wish I had your problem of more room to plant stuff! I have about a 12x12 area left and 6 things to put in there! I might need to make the garden bigger...again!

Have a fantastic day! Terri O

ETA: yup BL4--that's what I figured the frog was...I did quite a bit of research lst night on frogs and was surprised to find out that WI has only 2 species! I found (and got a winning pic) of the other variety a few years back. THey both look like they are smiling...I wish this one had a better background...I would enter it in the fair!

OH and the pine pollen has hit here big time,,,,,,,hood of my truck is yellow,,,,need another good rain

TO~we had coons a couple years ago (notice the plural). This was before we got our hens so they were destroying our sweetcorn patch next to the house. Caught the first one, smaller, in a trap and hubby hauled it deep into state forest land. After another raid, we re-set the trap and caught one so huge we have no idea how it fit in there in the first place
ep.gif
There was no way to turn it loose because we couldn't get near the cage latch (it was one of those wire "have-a-heart" traps) without the thing trying to eat us so hubby got the 22. Fortunately, it seemed we got them all because we have had no problem since.

Just a few weeks ago our close neighbor spotted a coon but they took care of it asap.

I would definitely re-set every night for a while because this time of year you could be dealing with an entire family or at least mom and dad feeding the kids

So sorry you suffered so many losses, I hope you have a successful end to the problem

MY "GIRLS" GAVE ME A BIRTHDAY GIFT!

4 hens, 4 eggs with no "misfires" and nobody attacked any of the eggs!!!
Only thing is now one of them is definitely laying her eggs near the "human" door instead of the nest boxes!
idunno.gif
I can tell by the egg that its the hen I call "crockpot". She's the one that is always underfoot and loves to be picked up and paid attention to and was also the one that just got over acting ill and had the "misfire" (soft/no shell) problem so I'm thinking that it might have something to do with her getting extra attention when she wasn't feeling well???? Anyone have any imput on this?

Afternoon all. After yet another day of someone not showing up to buy the black silkies like they said they would so we went fishing. We didnt catch much but the kids had fun finding snails and such. We also stopped by Buckhorn and picked up the kids Jr Ranger books so they can start working on them for their new patch. I need to go out and pump out the ducks pond and refill it, its getting pretty gross

. I hope everyones day is good.

TO- thats interesting about the tree frogs, I would have guessed we had a TON of different ones, I have seriously so many around here we dont go one night without one on a window . We have the creamy green ones like your pic, some bright green ones, and just about every shade in between. Oh and the little toads too. lol The chickens like to eat them :)

Unk - pretty cool that you got a signed poster !

Vic - congrats on the eggs and no issues
