Twizz, could it be Lymes??? I know that the tests for people are not even close to 100% for accuracy in diagnosing Lymes, so could that be the case here????

All babies are out of the shell!!!!

The last one was starting to sound really raspy so we wet it down really well and pulled some of the really tough membrane off; that was the jumpstart he needed! Within minutes he was out of the shell! My oldest decided to do a little investigating on why the one did not hatch. She said it had barely pipped the membrane (this I already knew), but it did not absorb the yolk at all and it's head was funny shaped. So I THINK right now we have 8 possibly 9 baby calls that have hatched. As soon as everyone is dry and fluffy I will be posting pics! I'll try to get some comparison shots too.

Well, that was the first thing we thought, and the tests showed up negative, but they put him through a full course of antibiotics to be safe and it didn't help. He also got anti inflamitories and steroids, and only the steroids seemed to help at all.

One thing to think about. Ticks don't just carry Lymes. They can transmit a whole slew of nasty diseases that can be transmitted to both humans and our pets. Some can mimic the flu while others can be far more serious than even Lymes.

Why they don't publicize that more is beyond me and I am stunned that drs and vets aren't more aware of this!

Last year I had one of the other ones myself (would give you the list of names but they all look like alphabet soup!) that was fortunately caught in time and treated because I had good physician but I also had a dear neighbor several years ago who also had a negative Lymes test and while puzzled drs tried to figure out what was going wrong, he had a stroke and slipped into a coma, suffering brain damage before they realized it was another tick born disease. One thing led to another and eventually I did his hospice care.

Hey all wonderful weather we been having except a bit of rain for the garden would be nice having to water nightly is becoming bothersome, but necessary.......
Everyone is doing good here, my babies are a week old today and I can't believe I have been so busy I haven't even posted any pictures of them, LOL I ended up with 4, 1 little Del Pullet I think, and 3 BR looking babies who are a cross between my Del rooster Hansom, and peaches my BR and Daphne my BSL, all 3 chicks look Identical........... weird thing that is, I was expecting a Del outa that big dark egg, and my BSL, instead gave me a Barred rock baby. It's a bit funny feathered right now almost looks like angel wings on a chick, can that happen to chickens? or just ducks? anyway the bottom feathers are long and the tops not grown in yet or something I'll post a picture later for ya all to see....
Well I'm collecting Del eggs again, will try 1 more time for Jims chicks, seeing as how I have but 1 outa `19 eggs, the neighbor must have forgot to turn them or the bator isn't working right or something, cuz of 13 eggs I sent here something should have hatched...........mine were fine 2 clears of 8 and the 2 that pipped and never zipped, and of course they were Dels.....arggggggggg my luck sure stinks with these little buggers, I also am now suspecting my feather picker is one of my Del hens, will see soon enough they are separated right now for egg collecting....

Jim these babies are growing like weeds the 3 roosters are huge already not sure yet on the sex of the little one............ wishing for at least 1 hen. anyway do you just want me to send you a check for these 4, or do ya still want to wait for 1 more hatch 2 trade some babies, I really would like to buy at least 2 hens from you so I have 2 girls for my rooster to make unrelated babies for next year. Pm me with what ya want me to do, I still also have your bait box I need to return, so we will just maybe drive up later this summer to return it and see your chickens and turkey's Maybe buy a Thanksgiving bird while we are there if ya have extra's.......

BL4--that is a very interesting article...I need to learn how to better use the web for stuff like that. As to your question about the calls. I still have the original pair I got from you that are "wild colored." Did I get any others from you? The other ones that are in the yard came from Carol through SweetFolly I believe. At lease the ratio is down to 3 boys and 1 girl now...all the calls seem to be "Up North!"

NJ--I posted that only a few days ago...it was right before or after your post about not releasing trapped troublesome creatures. Sometimes I miss posts that way too...that is why I always look at my post and the one before it just to make sure I dont miss anything! I do tend to post at "peak" times and frequently at the same time as certain others that shall stay unnamed! I dont want to miss a single morsel! LOL!

I have to tell you all this story...I have an odd friend (she doesnt even have chickens) that I did a favor for. Her cats have had kittens AGAIN and I posted an ad for her on CL a few days ago. She was getting calls on her home number and setting up times for people to come and see them. Today she ohones me and says why did I put out her cell number and why are people calling from St Paul and Minneapolis? She doesnt have a computer and doesnt understand CL or anything about it. So these folks say that they want her to send pics of the kittens and where is she located etc. My friend is freaking out! I went to CL st paul and actually found that ad (there were only 92 to go through for kittens/cats) Turns out that the OP wrongly listed my friends Cell number in her ad. She also has kittens to rehome! I sent her an email and asked her to correct it, I posted a re: ad and let my friend know about it...WHOOO--HOOOO--I feel like a detective. Just had to share this strange co-incidence with you all!
