UPDATE: I found my silkie yesterday afternoon! I was mowing and he ran right out in front of me! I caught him and put him back with the others, they seemed so happy to see him! Well, other than the EE roo. He's been bullying him. I'm afraid he might end up in the freezer if he doesn't stop. The EE is beautiful but I certainly won't get rid of my silkie xD

Cleo's such a cutie! And then I see she's snoozing practically on someone's head with her "thumb" claw fully extended. hmmmm, "she's a siamese if you please" eh?

I thought I cooked them when the incubator spiked at 105, but I continued on with fingers crossed and to my surprise there were 13 of the little devils waiting for me when I got home last night! They are the smallest littles I have ever seen in my life! Thanks TO for setting me up with the Coturnix eggs.

So guess what we got today?

20 SLW! haha All from the same guy we got our pullets from. Noticed some of the darlings have single combs, but most of them have peacombs. Not sure what I'll do with 22 chickens that are identical, but there's plenty of room in the coop!

Man there is a cuteness overload today....

Tonight I got a three mile run in ...in my brand new running shoes! I was and continue to be so excited about them! The last pair I bought gave me lower back discomfort and I didn't bring them back to the awesome running shop I go to in Madison (Movin' Shoes). Where's my idiot hat? Anyway, I've been running in my oldie but goodie shoes ever since and I could tell in the last couple of outings that they were capitol T-O-A-S-T. Shoot, now that I think about it they got me through multiple 5Ks, a 10K, a Dirty Girl mud run, a half marathon AND all the ridiculous training building up to all that! It's practically a miracle I'm not having problems from continuing to use them as long as I have. So I'm super better-than-Christmas excited to have my new shoes and am ready to take 'em on back if they wind up giving me grief. No problems from their first three miles!

Your silver and GLW are right tight together in the picture,top left and inbetween the SL and yellow chick the chipmunk is your SS, I think your EE is the other brown chick, does it have a pea comb? then for sure it is an EE, in a few weeks I can tell ya for sure, your guess's on the others I think are correct.

I tried the Magees feed. I've been mixing it in with my pelleted feed so it isn't a huge adjustment in their diet. They like the corn pieces and their pellets, but I think they're not quite as gung-ho on the powdery part. I find a lot of that on the ground right now, but I'm sure they will get used to it. It is nice to have right now as the teenie boppers are getting adjusted from going from their chick crumble to their adult pellets. And it sure is making my feed go a lot farther by mixing them together.

All the pics don't help. No No No no NO! Still haven't taken the pics yet. Ya know how it works Oh there's a perfect shot now stand still CRAP. mazo are you raising the quail for eatin or are you going to release them? Seems like a lot of work for a couple of bites to me.

Have really been enjoying life lately, I always do when things come together. Got 3 windows spray foam insulated and need to trim that and get the trim back on. Had to take the trim back off in the bathroom, last winter I could see the hand towel waving. Guess I was in a hurry to finish the bathroom. Have some beef cubes marinating for kabobs on the barbie tonight.

Haven't had those in a long time. Wish I had some fresh stuff from the garden. Looks like we're in for a short hot spell then back to normal. Back to work!

Morning all!
Just wanted to catch up before chores. BTB gave me a scare yesterday. He got out when I went to go check the bbq and he took off. I thought he'd come back after a couple of minutes. Wrong! He left! Long story short DH (who was more worried then me) found him in the garage.. I caught him with some food and brought him in. He was rather spooked so he hid under the bed so he missed his dinner. So, all is well the ends well....except if your the fish...My joy that BTB did not come to a tragic end was short lived. I wanted to kill him first thing this morning. Apparently since he missed dinner, he decided to go fishing. He knocked the fish bowl over and while the lid on the little betta bowl stayed on the water went everywhere....I mean everywhere! I got the chance to wash the kitchen floors first thing this morning with fish water....joy. The good news is the fish is fine and now living in bathroom behind closed doors and BTB is now on to tormenting my seed packets...*sigh*

Got the incubator all packed up yesterday.

!!!! Anyway, in a few days the little Brooder Brats will be ready to transfer to the coop. I need to clean the coop first. That is on the to do list. Since it will be so warm in the next few days, I figure they will be able to handle it. They have been heat lampless for the last three or four days....

Well, gotta go....BTB is on the kitchen...no doubt hunting up the fish....

Good morning! MLH your story made me chuckle. I think we have your cat's brother here...he is so sassy but so smart and cute to boot! I wont be real sad to see him go though IF my daughter ever moves out. SHe has two cats here so the population would go down a bit...too bad none of these dogs are hers! I decided to start taking Liza (the beagle you all know) out on a lead in the mornings. The other day she was gone for about 2 hours. I found her in the barn. She always comes back but has been known to cross the road and go up to the neighbors' place. I think that might have been when the other people were there though...they left food out for their cats. Right up her alley for sure. Dogs sure can be a pain!

I can tell I am working too much again...I kinda feel like doing absolutely nothing when I am home! My BFF is comeing to spend the day next Wednesday...that is I hope she is. (her Dad is in the hospital right now) We help each other once a month alternating between places. It is my turn for help so I have to think of a good project for us to do. I am thinking my fish pond...drain and clean and get the flower groupings thinned and sorted out...and then MULCH! But maybe if I dont have that darn garden planted by then...of course I bought a few more plants the other day at a place in Fort that has an excellent selection of herbs. I went there to see if they had the herb that I planted last year but forgot the name. Nope--didnt stop me from buying 5 more and another heirloom tomato though....

Yup--I do it all to myself!

Now that my computer is fixed I can get some of these birds listed on CL! I have to take advantage of people wanting to start or add to their flocks now in the spring because the Good Lord knows that it's pretty hard to find them homes in the fall! I really want to cut down to the bare bones of the flock for the winter. ( that was an odd sentence!) I dont want to be going through so much feed this year....I got another horse to feed ya know!

DrH I admire you! Beef cubes marinating at 7 in the morning! Now that's thinking ahead! I have my chicken thawed only because we were supposed to have it for two nights now...so tonight is is going on the grill! I am making "chicken on a can" otherwose known as "beer butt chicken" of course I cant use beer; I think I will try mountain dew this time. The root beer we did last time gave a nice taste to the meat too but I think this might be better! I will add extra lemon juice to the contents of the can and some fresh herbs too.
Speaking of...I guess I should close and get out there with a shovel and get the new herbs in the ground. So much to do and no ambition to do it! That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

A little clarification:

Current Mequon ordinance requires 10 acres to keep chickens. (20birds max per acre- where agriculturally zoned)

The public welfare committee is proposing very restrictive text amendment for residents to keep 4 hens. Additionally, committee only communicated with the subdivision association presidents- not the general public.

Looking for endorsement and support for the backyard chickens within the current ordinances (ie- fences, structures) from anyone else in Mequon looking to achieve compliance- otherwise it's bye bye birdies
