Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

My ladies' first outing outside the run

These two are Soup (on the right) who was the only one that looked even halfway decent when I got them and Stirfry (the one with the single tail feather
roll.png
)this is the poor girl with the horrible vent gleet. And of course, that's my puppy Angel.

The top pick is "Crockpot" (the really friendly but also bratty one) on the left and Soup again on the right. Fricassee is off chasing a butterfly.

All of them (except poor Stirfry) finally have most of their butt feathers below their vents but as you can see, Soup is the only one with tail feathers. At least they all finally have a nice shine to their feathers (they were all looking pretty sad when I brought them home with their red butts and dirty, lifeless looking feathers).

I get the biggest kick out of watching them make each new discovery of what it means to be a normal chicken

some of their reactions are just a hoot!

Good Afternoon all

Must be one of those tired kind of days all around the state. Feel tired up here too !!! Now I have to go to the Laundry Mat since out washer is not working. It's one of those front loaders. Not sure if it maybe needs a belt or of the dial mech is not working. Either way it doesn't tumble/agitate or whatever the front loaders do. Gonna be a rea chore getting it out of the basement.

Anyway, ran into the neighbor in town yesterday that has the horse. They have him in a stall right not but took him out yesterday. He definately is a stallion. He wants at their mare which isn't housed to far from him.
She called the vet that had seen him initially and he did say $500-$600 to geld and maybe more depending on how far he would have to dig for the nut.
The amish hadn't called her back at the time so I don't know if they would do it?
If I went that route I would get some sedation meds from the vet, that is for sure.
She said if they Amish won't do it she may put the horse down. I don't know if she means shoot it or have the vet do it but then the joke at the Sheriffs office was they were going to eat it at their picnic............. Not so sure they were kidding !!
I told her I would put an ad on CL in search for info as to who dropped it off but she has to tell me what to say. I don't need any trouble from the sheriffs office. I guess it was found in three lakes on the trails. Three different county sheriff departments were involved. Who ever owns the horse will have quite a big bill and fine if they are found.
Like she said, can you imagine if you went to that trail with your mare and out comes a stallion. Someone, humane or animal, cold have gotten seriously injured or killed. I guess my neighbors stallions are going nuts over there too !! And she said this boy was no innocent bystander. I can imagine that he wouldn't be if after having all of those scares.
So if anyone wants a nice looking horse 3-5 yrs old let me know and I'll put you in touch with her. I can try to get a picture of him.

Ok gotta get out of here, ready or not !!!

Afternoon All...
I recieved some sad news late last night via a good friend in California, my former roommate and old friend died on Monday probably due to massive kidney failure. She had apparently been on dialysis for nearly 10 years, which I never knew about.
She was on SSI, and really had no money, although she had come from a well to do family in England. I may be handling the obit and having her remains sent to me here, to make sure she is taken care of.
AND on top of that, I received an email from her current roommate that another mutual friend of hers and mine, committed suicide by starvation a few months back....

I am still in shock. And trying to get some information is REALLY hard, like her mother's first name and her fathers. both passed on before she reached 24.

Good afternoon! Oh shoot--Iguess itis evening by now...what a wrecked day! I went to work this morning and got there late because of another client calling me hysterically because her insurance saying that they were not picking up the co-pay after Medicare for her hubby's stay in sub-acute. So after the first job I met her at the hospital and had a big talk with the Supervisor of the hospital, the head nurse, the financial department.....all of them! My client wanted to take her DH home and nurse him there with my help...yeah, there was no way that me coming in even a few times a week was going to work. I finally convinced her that she needed to bite the bullet and pay for the care at the nursing home for at least 2 weeks until the man has an appt with the neurosurgeon. It's only money; and money is not worth the safety of a loved one! So not too hard of a day but a very emotional one! I am glad I am home.

I had a guy stop looking for TEN DOZEN eggs! Yeah, I had 15 in my fridge on Friday...I took them to work and gave them away! So I havent been collecting real regularly and the hens have been such brats laying in the nests with broodies and hatching eggs that I was not confident of some eggs "eatability." I was able to scrounge nearly 5 dozen for him though...I was missing 4 so I made them up in quail eggs! I figured 3 quail eggs = 1 chicken egg right? He was headed on a camping/fishing trip more North than THunder Bay. He said Fried walleye every night for supper...so I will be gone from here for a week....I wish!
tongue.gif

MJ/NJ--glad those quail hatched for you! I dont remember how many were in that tray...20? If that was it then that's not too bad! Of course those birds have started laying up a storm again...I see pickled quail eggs on the horizon! My Dad will be SOOOO happy.

Carol you sure do get involved in some interesting stuff! You said they weer shipping REMAINS; did you meat CREMAINS? I hope so! What are you planning on doing? (can I ask?) I think it would be good to go on a horse ride and let the ashes fly as you canter across a field! If you can do this then I want you to handle my Cremains too!
bow.gif
But maybe she didnt like horses? At any rate, I am sorry for your loss of both of the friends...2 in a week, that's tough!
I must be in a really weird mood cause I just had a strange thought...I am betting that my DH will take my Cremains out to the chickens...for a dust bath! I guess there could be worse places to end up!

I guess I am going to go and fire up the old Kitchen-aide...gotta eat potato pancakes tonight! The girls are playing beach volleyball and then working out (PX90) and DH is in Green Bay for the night...potato pannies and a horse ride I am thinking!

Myabe back later! TErri O

Wild day at work today! Our intern is putting in his first week on the job and so of course we had a major accident in the plant. Poor guy is at the Milwaukee burn center and will be there for a while. I think in the end he will be ok, but I do not know the details. Our intern looked like a deer in headlights after that happened! Poor kid!

Baby duckies are running around like mad today. Poor mamma can hardly keep all of them under her.

Took my carrot cake in to work today, and of course it was a smash. Now just sitting here with a glass of wine munching on the nummy Porterhouse steak dinner.

TO

There were about 25 that were in good condition. I got them all set and then when we had the temps in the 90's my incubator spiked at 105 degrees, I'm not sure how long it was at that temp, I didnt check it until the end of the day. I went through the motions just like a normal hatch and I'm happy I did. I ended up with 14 littles in two days and I am going to let it run 1 more day just to make sure!

Thanks again,

Joe

Evening To All... Been busy here the last couple days. I didn't even turn the putor on so catching up reading prolly a dozen pages at once is overload for my brain. Glad some folks missed me.

Glad the shipped chicks arrived safe and sound...keep a close eye for pasty butt from the shipping stress.

Good feed information MLH. Anyone try their Magees layer ration from the bash yet? It's my feed of choice as most of you already know.

Welcome to the Cheedeheads LSB...alot of good folks here.

The sawdust would work in the coop Susie too.

Me too....bigz

If any of you have time to help me identify the chicks, my FB album link is below. I put question marks around the names of the breeds for those I am unsure of-still trying to sort out the GL & SL Wyandotte and EE'r.

I loved your FB pics! I think you guys have it all figured out too. I STILL have chicks and the pictures of them when really small make me want to hatch more...oh yeah, I still have 8 broodies out there somewhere....LOL!

I just popped in to read...now I am going out to lock up and then up to bed with my book...and maybe a glass of sherry! (no, Tommy is already asleep in his house so he wont get to share!) I have the house all to myself...it amazes me how much energy that gives me! I dont even have little kids tolook after any more...of course DH is out of town tonight, yeah; that must be it!
I am stuffed after eating a whole recipe of potato pancakes by myself. MMMM-they were good! I really should have cooked up a fish filet too but I didnt feel like going down to the freezer and finding one.

Sweet dreams everyone! Terri O

Hey BigZ I see you posted while I was typing...I did try the feed we won and it is gone. Well, it only took about 2 days to get gone...I was surprised when I opened the bag and it was still a little chunky with whole grains. THe boys and girls seemed to like it fine. That is one thing I would do if I was to have my mill custom make feed for me--leave it with a bit more texture. My present feed is very finely ground and it took me a bit to get used to it because I fed my first chickens crumbles.
