Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, sort of.. am waiting for the people from Iola to show up for the girl puppy.. I hate waiting for anything..

the baby peacock died.. no reason, just turned 6 toes up.. they do that, learned it from the turkeys..

it was supposed to rain at midnight last night.. must have changed it's mind.. I will still plant the buckwheat today.. after the people leave with the puppy.. how's that for positive thinking..?

I was going to send a picture of the plucker to you, DrH,, but I can't find it.. It might still be in the camera.. camera: upstairs, me: downstairs.. me: too lazy to run upstairs..

I am having fits with my computer.. brother showed me something on it yesterday, then I messed up my basic settings, and don't know how to get them back.. for awhile, I couldn't even shut the d@mned thing off..

With everyone adding info randomly (and lots of it), I leave my window open on my laptop so I can easily check in throughout the day.

But thanks for noticing me

I have zero hope for rain here during the day. I have been watching the radar and it looks as if SW Wisc. may get a spitting then onto central Wisc. and continue to
the NE....which TOTALLY misses me

It looks promising for this evening

Now that the weather has been discussed and that I have cleared the creepy lurker label

, what should I move onto??????

I woke up early with the hubby today at the wee hour of 4:45am. I couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided to get up and clean the house while the kids were still sleeping (not demanding me time or getting in the way). I can't believe how motivated I was! I swept the floors downstairs, did the dishes, brought 5 baskets of clean laundry up from the laundry room (one of which was the towels which I folded, the rest belong to the kids and hubby...they put away their own stuff), scrubbed the kitchen sink and dining room table, cleaned the fish tank (YUCKY), took out the garbage, made the bed and cleaned up my bedroom, and then I started getting the urge for something. I wondered what????? OH, I haven't had my coffee yet. I walked into the kitchen to make my morning coffee, only to find no coffee. AHHH! I got into the car and drove to the gas station (I needed gas too) to get a French Roast X-Large coffee. Now that I am home enjoying my coffee, I am no longer motivated to clean and I am starting to get very tired. The coffee will kick in soon however and I'll be up and running again.

The chickens were sadly looking at me this morning begging to be let out to roam! Since we have a relatively large red-tail hawk population in the ravine next to our house, I tend to sit outside while I have the girls running around....and well this morning (as you can tell) I've been a bit busy....maybe a little later when I get my second wind.

I am anxiously awaiting my girls first eggs. They have changed their color surrounding their face, eyes, and ears and their comb/waddle are growing slightly. The girls are about 21 weeks old and about the time for RIR and red stars to lay, right?

For all of you garden aficionados, have any of you used the "dig in almost composted materials into the soil" method to increase your soils nutrients?

Okay...I think the coffee has kicked in...I am motivated to do something again......what is next on my list? Let's see.....more dishes, water garden, more laundry, let out the girls...I'll catch you all later when I get tired again!

My husband is the sales director for a constructioon company. They are hiring sales people in the Denver metro area. Lots of potential for motivated people who like sales. Everyone working now is on track for $100,000+ this year. If anyone knows anyone that would be interested PM me for the info. The company has offices in MN and CO and has a good BBB standing. My husband flies back home every other week, but some people have just relocated to CO. The season is usually April to the end of Oct.

Just wondering when PEOPLE (CC?) start planning for the mini, cute, petite Southern WI get together? No harm in planning ahead and setting a date and place...;)

I got nothing going on here. I am tired of the kids being home for summer.

MXM... I have a hard copy of Discovery of Witches if you want to borrow it? We could meet on the East side of Madison some morning soon for coffee or something? The next book in the series comes out July 10th I believe.

Ok. Done for now.

Good morning to all!
IT'S RAINING!!!!!
I am so glad...but like Jim I was lazy yesterday and did not get my 4 rows of seeds planted! Darn...they are missing all this great moisture. Oh well...it is what it is! I hope some of the rest of you are getting the needed rain too. We were out in the yard peeling quail eggs and discussing the possibility of rain. I went in to make the pickling solution and DH said "it's starting to sprinkle!" So I had to run out and get the laundry down--mulberry trees do nasty stuff to laundry when it rains! Made it just in time. I was going to go out and feed the rest of the critters but it decided to rain harder...so now I am catching up with you all.

BL4--the "fur" on my saddle is made by a woman who specializes in such things. It is Merino SHeepskin and is in two pieces. The leg parts and then the seat part. It makes for the most comfy ride ever! No pinches at all...hey FT--you oughta get one...then you could ride NAKED! THat is why I can ride in shorts too. I used to ride in shorts without it...I always had little purple bruises by my knees!

DrH...knowing you and your mechanical ability I bet you could get that old plucker of Jim's running in tip top shape! Then you'd have one of your very own...I know what you mean about the borrowing thing. I dont like that either.

I am just looking at Little T in the chick TV and I think she is partly frizzled! Her feathers certainly dont lie down like all the other chickens her age. I think I will bring some mealies in and treat her to some...gotta get her/him tame....someone PMed me about Tommy the house roo...I gave her the whole explanation...that'll teach her to ask me to tell a story!

I started way back with Charlie!

Well, I have decided that I am hungry...guess I will go and scare something up. Still raining here....

Yes . I have dug with a spade at least a foot down to loosen it and then added the almost composted materials into the soill and then mixed that with the soil on the top. . They were fairly well composted and I have had excellent results. This year I am adding a bit of seaweed fertilizer to the soil which has phosphorous just in case I have too much nitrogen from the compost. Just a note I try not to put very much uncomposted carbons in as they can take away from the nutrients as they degrade. But all in all my soil is fluffy and the plants grow well.

I am back.. one puppy less.. Iola is where the puppy is going.. these people live almost adjacent to the car show.. the man was not 100% sure about getting a dog, until she handed the pup to him to hold.. He never put it down after that..

It did sprinkle a bit here this morning.. the sun pops out every so often.. I will be going down to the garden in a bit.. Annie just notified me that it is thundering a little.. maybe I will just skip the tilling and toss the buckwheat seeds down..

had fresh strawberry shortcake for breakfast.. sort of a tradition at this time of year....

morning everyone, ummmmmmmmmmmmm, it's morning right?

We lost power at 8 pm last night and still don't have it back
barnie.gif
We had to start up the generator at 4 this morning for the fridge. We went to bed believing what wps said that our power would be back by 2 a.m. We have a small one but it puts out enough power to be able to run the fridge, a light or two and the satellite and the coffee pot of course!!! We just have to switch between the fridge and the big freezer once in a while. I got totally bored trying to stay awake (hubby finally crashed on the couch, poor sweety) and plugged in the modem so I could use my laptop.
caf.gif
Don't trust to plug the desktop into the generator. At least we have the generator (and an older backup one too actually) I just hope the gas holds out. Usually we are prepared well ahead but this time we got caught by surprise.

Just sitting here at my kitchen table watching the girls chase bugs. Boy, they did NOT like being locked up so long and really told me about it when I opened the coop this morning
lau.gif
Two of them (not sure which) stopped laying earlier in the week after I found 2 rubber eggs. But while I was still trying to figure out what was going on, I went out to the coop yesterday and found 4 eggs again
idunno.gif
(from my 4 hens). The strangest part is that I do know for sure that one of them that did NOT stop laying was the hen that still has the vent gleet! Go figure
hu.gif

Hope everyone had a good rain and no damage and their gardens are now as happy as mine
big_smile.png

Hope those hens of yours get it figured out soon. Silly birds. Their so cute when they get sassy!! A generator is a good idea, judging by the way we have been having these eratic storms lately.

MLH those dogs own you and they know it!

Amy cute little chicks whatever they are.

BBP are you sure it is only 2 mice?

Just finished the book Fall of Giants by Ken Follett last night , it is the first of a trilogy, I checked on Amazon for the next one and it wont be available till Sept. 18!!!!

I had more but forgot.
