Sorry we been hogging all the rain over here ~ I am glad to hear it has finally gone to other parts of the state.

BigZ I was wondering the same thing..... but we had old kiln fired bricks around the pit before and they would crack from the heat. I have brick pavers under the retaining wall blocks, lost of sand under the bricks, and of course the old tire rim down inside the pit itself. The majority of the heat should rise right out and not cause an issue.

I got the idea of using the retaining wall blocks from a friend of mine who built a fire pit with the blocks creating a wall behind the fire. I figured if the blocks in the wall could withstand the heat of a fire, then they should be fine around a campfire. And on the plus side those retaining wall blocks are not too expensive.

Got the lawn mowed and all the webfooters are now roaming freely.Those devil babies keep going into my goldfish pond!

Guess I used up my sleep time as a teen. Nice fire pit! Very neat pic BBP! Bigz only got 3/10ths thought it was more from the sounds of it but there's more predicted in the next few days. Dang spinach is already starting to bolt. Time to pull and replant some. Peckin dill is going gonzo Thanks Bigz!

Over planted that to make sure I didn't run out as I have in the past the overflow will go in the freezer. Only one hen still afraid to come out think the thining was a good idea. But it's only been a day she'll come around. Getting 4-5 poult eggs everyday now.

Old Blue is real skittish was lookin in the nest boxes and she flew out of one and dang near took my head off. Coulda been an improvement.

Hi All

BigZ...here's a very basic batter. To make a 1/2 batch I use a guinea egg and 1/2 everything else. You can also add seasoning to the batter. The idea is to have a thin batter just thick enough to stick to whatever your frying. I you Google it you can get all kinds of ideas.

TEMPURA BATTER​

1 c. flour
1 c. water (ice cold)
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
Mix eggs and ice water. Beat flour and baking powder together

Early Evening All... yep the rain here was lighter than i thought. Still dry under the canopy of the mater plants...still happy with any moisture we can scrounge up.

Thanks for the recipe Cind...I'll give it a try next week with some broccolli for starters.

Time to fire the grill...gonna be thick cut ham steak, seven layer salad (lots of nueskes bacon) tato salad and prolly a adult drink or two.

My dill is up, but the row is due for a good weeding...seems like the weeds germinate fine without rain. Makes the work harder clearing the rows....we will get there...hope we get some rain tonight.

Only saw one june bug here too. those nasty white grubs are what can make lots of divots in the spuds....seems like they are at bay for whatever reason? Don't miss em at all. The hens really like them...won't touch a potato beetle though.

We have a pretty good fire in the pit here. We crumble poured stuff here....like you said.bl4...not real expensive...just hate doing things over. Must be the I can do nothing best in me!

Evening all!

First, congrats on selling one of the Phoenix Roos!

We've had a fairly good rain total here so far the last 2 days (3/4") of nice soaking rain but could still use some more. Even the wind damage was minimal.

Spent quite a bit of time at the Wave swap meet today chatting with some really nice folks but a bit disappointed at the turnout. Still had a lot of fun playing with the beautiful show quality Silkies that were there. I went really hoping to find the right hen to add to my coop of Aussie crosses but everyone was trying to get rid of roos! Only hens were the $50 silkies or some turkins

. Oh well, my better half was proud of me when I came home with an empty carrier. Just have to put the word out and keep looking.

We've had the same stones around our burn barrel for 2+ years with no problems.

No June bugs here either but we usually don't get that many anyway. Been picking potato beetles and my girls gobble em down

Reminds me. I've been playin hooky because of the rain and better get myself back into bug hunting! Don't like using chemicals and with the almost daily sprinkles, wouldn't do any good anyway.

Anyone else have any pretty feed sacks they are willing to part with?

Happy Dad's Day once again! Hope all of you are having a great day. My DH took the day and made a batch of beer (Birthday Present) It is Stout--I wont be able to have any.

We are having grilled salmon for dinner (his fave) With baked potato, broccoli and broccoli-slaw. Lots ob broccoli but I had a package thawed from the other night when I didnt feel like cooking! Looks like it will be only us!

Posted some birds on CL today, moved some birds outside and set Cuckoo Marans and black Ameraucana eggs. While I was watering one of the Bobs got out. I was glad if hung around the quail cage until I got the net! NP catching it...I think they are not very bright? Easier to catch than a chick anyhow.
I also cleaned out the feed room part of the chicken coop and made some more roosting places in the layer coop. A lot of these birds will be moving in there this fall so I want to have enough space. I put up another 12 feet or so...maybe they will have enough now? LOL! Those darn turkeys have been roosting in there along with the chickens...they take up a LOT of space!

Guess I will go and feed the critters before dinner...have a great night everyone! Terri O

Vicky--I wish you would have said that about the feed bags just after the bash! I was saving a bunch for FT and when she didnt come I tossed them!
