ok zero eggs today... dont know what is going on? I changed the food to chick food... would that upset their systems so much they would not lay? or babies running around? Usually have 4-7 eggs a day and none today. YIKES

Short answer, yes, why did you move to chick food? Are you providing grit and calcium? Both of those could be causing the lack of eggs. You may have a couple tomorrow just because the nutrition is different for the chick starter than layer feed.

I switched over to chick food because momma hen and two new chicks insisted on being in general population and we are adding our 14 week olds in. We still have optional bowls of grit and oyster shell. So do I just figure there will be less eggs until the teenagers are ready to lay and I can switchback to regular layer food

krisp.... what I did (don't know how it will work for you) Was I put the feeder with layer up on some cement blocks. The big girls reach it just fine. The chick feed I put in another area in a shallower dish (dog bowl) on the floor. Yes, the hens may eat some of it, but they prefer their layer pellets.

I'll get to everyone else later

To add to my early post (please see above)

I also have 7 three week old chicks that are seperate from my coop. They are on medicated feed. Since it appears there is some cocci in my main coop/flock, should I treat the chicks as well? (Take them off med feed/give meds)? I was planning on adding them out to to coop in the next couple of weeks.

Also, do you need to re treat for cocci in 2 weeks like you do when worming?

hi all, tried to rototil some in the garden today.. still too wet.. but on the upside, the weeds are not that bad,,,,,yet.. I did tie up all 9 tomato plants.. the broccoli , br sprouts and pepper plants are all doing well.. the pepper plants themselves are not so tall, but there are many peppers on them..

the corn is up.. lot of the rows did get washed out partially. same with the potatoes.. the potatoes that did not get the extra layer of mud over them look just great.. ready to be hilled as soon as it dries up a bit more.. the peas and beans are looking very good and the squash and cukes are starting to spread out..

got a peahen egg today.. Annie gave it to one of the chicken clucks..

can start to tell some of the young roosters apart from the pullets. I am thinking of not keeping the Delawares.. I like the barocks..

egg production is keeping Annie happy.. 2 dozen a day.. I just got an order today for as many as I can provide by Wednesday..

I have to go close up the coop doors..

Evening! Just got in myself Jim...the dog was out all night last night and I smelled SKUNK through the open window! (guess she is NOT a skunk whisperer...that still cracks me up!) So I had visions of her coming in and smelling terrible and having to try out the skunk formula that I so readily gave out last week....but she didnt smell at all! I went out for chores and could STILL smell the skunk so something else must have gotten it. Nothing was eaten however so no fox, coon, dog or skunk activity in that department! Whew.

One of my chicks in the TV-a really big one--is all off balance tonight. None of the other ones are showing signs of this...I have no idea what the problem is. I gave it some vitamins and some electrolytes tonight...I dont think it will be better tomorrow...

I bought a semi load of hay and it is coming tomorrow at 8 am--I guess I better go to bed!
Good night and sweet dreams everyone. I dreamed about wolves last night...I hope not tonight! Terri O

With the heat and other things going on it just didn't get done when we planed. Tonight we put the rest of the "young ones" in the big coop too. The bachelor coop gets it Tue. (today). When I said Jasmine's kids were down to 12 apparently I missed one. There's 13 so only 1 was lost.
Those of you that have waterer like I won at the bash... I took it apart to clean it and now I can't seem to get it to stop leaking! Help!
Isis caught a mouse and brought it to the kitties... getting them started for hunters! I'll post more pic.s soon so you all can pick yours out

Thinking fox or yotie no carcass just feathers. FT glad hear something was done with that horse! Bob continues to improve, tough old coot! Would have to really think about it but he's around 13. Found some road rash on one shoulder and put bag balm on it. That was a painful experience for both of us. Have been giving him soft food plus give him some hard food soaked in ho made electro. Thanks everyone for all the help! Going to Rapids today will pick up some Save a calf. Ken glad it was a quick fix for your drains! Have a lot on my mind this morning apparently too much. Things to do before I go get the new washer. Enjoy the last human day b4 the heat hits again!
