Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Demolition complete. Now time to scrub and clean. Bleach first with the scrub brush then pinesol to make it smell good. Yes I know to wait until things dry to use it. Is there a bleach based lemon smelling product? Just curious.

The birds are doing ok, lots of talking but laying is still down since the storm. They are enjoying the dry hay and freedom to get out a little more.

Bought a new washer/dry from BestBuy. They can get it delivered within the week. My wife will be very excited, I am just looking at the work. Tonight while enjoying my adult beverage I will be cleaning, building a platform for the new washer/dryer and measuring out my new walls.

That is if I make it through work today... Why can't people get on the same page? Our job is all about communicating and holding teens accountable for their decisions. If people don't tell me what is going on can I really be blamed for not knowing what is going on? Apparently I must be a mind reader too. Lets see how this works today.

I have to take the Motorcycle to work today because my 'Yota is getting a new gas tank, fuel pump, and fuel filter. I am so bummed I have to take the bike to work...

Nah,

Have a great day!

Good morning! Sorry about taking the whole page! Sheesh--it wouldnt post so I just kep pushing the submit button! Finally just closed 'er down for the night...must have found it's way to the site somehow X4!
Chickenscratch....if someone were wanting to poison the coon, they might put mouse or rat poison in marshmallows....or was told at ace hardware store associate that crystallized fly bait in regular mountain dew works well also....just sying these might be some final options to really get rid of a coon....we have a coon right now and want to get rid of it before there is a real problem. Last year we relocated one about 15-20 miles and it found its way back....so not doing that again....good luck
This struck me as funny...Kris--how in the world did you know it was the same coon? From what I have seen one looks pretty much like the next one to me. I am betting you just had another one come by to take it's place. THe fly bait stuff with coke does work extremely well but it will also kill your dog and your cat and anything else that eats it too! You must be very, very careful with it!

Well gotta run...wasnt supposed to even get on here today but I had to look up my premises ID for the fair. Later! Terri O

morning all

Nothing like dusting a chicken first thing in the morning, cough, cough. Don't know if bugs are her problem (couldn't see any) but she is doing a lot of beak scratching and fluffing and just not acting her self so I gave it a shot. (yep, DE into the wallow and the nestbox too, just to be on the safe side)

ABOUT COONS~We do not believe in putting poison into the foodchain (or like Terri said, poisoning ours or someone elses pet) so the only other option for us, and has worked rather well, is to trap. We live trap then "cull" the adults (just too dangerous to get them out of the trap) and send the younger ones on a loooong roadtrip. More humane than maiming/mangling with jaw traps, which seldom hold a coon for long anyway. Also, if we catch something we didn't intend, it isn't hurt. Just personal preference.
Yes, I am one of "those"

. I even have proof! Have a copy of the huge picture printed of me in 1989-90? in the Appleton Post Crescent On Earth Day as I was stomping around in the Fox River in hip boots fishing disgusting things out of the water

. Even used to have a prized T shirt from the very first Earth Day!!!! I have mellowed with age (or molded~

) but my gardens are still organic and we try very hard not to over medicate ourselves or our critters and to respect and live with nature and avoid the "nuclear holocaust" approach whenever possible. (screeeeech~dragging off my soapbox now

I'm back! did you miss me?
big_smile.png
heard a repeated sound I couldn't figure out at first then realized it was a hen screaming!
ep.gif
Ran out to the coop/run, noise was coming from inside! Threw open the door and there were 3 of my 4 hens stacked like cordwood all squeezed on top of each other trying to use the same nestbox!
smack.gif
Probably the only reason the 4th wasn't in the pile is I had already found a "misfire" (actually a double misfire-bazaar) in the catch pan to the roost this morning. The hen on the bottom was the one making all the noise and she was definitely not giving up her spot so I got the rest of the pile off her. Geesh,
roll.png
What makes this even more ridiculous is my nest box is designed as a 3 1/2ft long (interior), undivided box, with a covered front and large entry holes on either end of the face. (was having problems with my nests being too bright so removed dividers and added a double hinged front) It could handle all 4 hens at the same time if necessary and has had at least 3 in at once without the "log pile" in the past. One minute this mob is super smart, the next they all act like they're brain dead!

Oh well, better get back outside and get some chores done before it gets too hot. Stay cool everyone!

Terri... we actually did know it was the same one because he had an ear half chewed off... trail cameras kept us in the loop. Have never tried the fly bait, just marshemellows with some extra goodies inside. Killed my daughters favorite chicken last year and we still get teas from that and I dont want to go through that again. My person preference with Dh. I am an animal lover and have had many pets and would have many more, but something that deheads and dewings a poor silkie for no reason, not even for food is not a friend in my book.

Ken sounds like alot of work, but who would not love a new washer and dryer. We have been keeping our eye out for a good clearance sale on some as my washer is slowly dying. But cant afford that quite yet. Once we do vacation then we will work on saving for that too!

Ok time to move my "teenager" 14 week olds in with the rest of the group today or tomorrow!

here's a read from this site with some interesting input to this cocci discussion;

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/coccidiosis-and-medicated-feed

I'm not a proponent of medicated feed here, I also don't keep a ultra clean brooder (good cleaning between batches), few "treats" for chicks other than some weeds/grass with dirt on the roots, always fresh water, no wet or moist bedding,,,, not that this is the right thing to do,,,just what I have done with no problems to this point
unkaden thanks-that was great info!!! And thats just it-my chicks don't appear fluffy or sick...just very skinny and one is only half the size of its hatch mates (same breed). Thats why I took a sample in for testing (Also some hens seem to have lost weight).
I also am a true believer in letting nature handle things. Just concerned over recent weight loss and slow growth of young chicks,
Also leary of test results from vet and not sure they knew what normal/abnormal ranges were. Said that with both worms and cocci and both were in the lower end....but since there is weight loss and small growth to treat them for the cocci now and worms in the fall during moulting. So now Im 2nd guessing treating them. However, i added apromulium to their water last night so may as well keep them on it for 3-5 days since I started it.

vicki: Thanks-book sounds interesting-will definately check into it.

Does anyone know if you have a withdrawl time when using Amprolium (Corid)? Keep seeing different opinions-some say no others say up to 8 weeks.

Terri O_Cute pic of the chicks! WOW! How many chicks can a hen successfully hatch/raise at once?

TO - I'm in aw, not only in the number of babies you have but at the amount of hay you go threw lol :)

CS- Sorry I dont know of a poison, good luck with the coons though

WCC- cool pics

Cindlady - Boy I wish we had the room, I would love to surprise DD with a horse.

Ken - Clorox bleach has a lemon scented bleach, their is 409 thats "lemonfresh" , Clorox Cleanup has a lemon scented spar also, Mr.Clean anitbacterial has lemon, lol I thinks there more but you got the idea ;)

UNK - SShhhh dont say air conditioned and tractor in the same sentence lol my DH will want one. lol

Vicki - lol I guess they all thought the 1 box was the prime spot to lay lol

Kristi- Good luck with your washer staying alive, Mine is a 1985 Maytag and I know it wont last forever, I just hope it lasts until we move lol

Good Mornign everyone. Well between feeding the kids, letting the crew out, adding water to the pool, making my own breakfast, and taking the dog out I finally caught up on reading posts lol. Looks like its suppose to a hot one today. I know DH will be misrable in his welders coat today. I dont mind th heat, after living in Alabama for a few years the heat up here is nothing lol. My blueberries are doing great BUT I think the chickens got to them before me. I went out to pick some and only came out with about a cups worth. The whole time I was picking Shifu ( my person duck) was devouring the ones he was finding. Oh well. I do still have a patch up in the woods that the chickens cant get to but its mosquito heaven up there. Maybe I'll be luckie with the Huckle berries and black berries. I need to work on weeding my garden and plant the 30 more corn that are still in flats. I just need to find somewhere for them. Well I guess thats about it. Oh I kicked the 3 babies outside the last couple days and put them in the coop last night in the cage and all seems to have gone well. I have Shifu in the pen with them for now and they all are getting along. Well I better get moving. I hope everyone stay cool today.

Hi Noah

yep, if you can find it there is lemon scented Clorox. Buy it all the time because it's the "no splash" kind (thicker). Don't "suffer" too much riding the bike
