90 to 100 is not that bad for chickens.. their body temp is that high naturally.. as long as they have some shade and plenty of water and moving air they should be OK..Quick question-its supossed to hit mid 90's all week. Has anyone lost chickens from this kind of heat? I felt so bad yesterday-the inside of the coop is slightly cooler and where they choose to hang out (cement wall barn). but wondering if there is anything else I can do for them besides plenty of water available?
I have gone so far as to just take ice and put it into a pan.. then they can drink the melted stuff (water) and be OK.. I never put any chickens or any other birds into shock by doing this..
Lately, as long as I am just hanging around anyway, I just change the water a couple of times a day.. I don't use the water jugs .. I am just using a few shallow pans.. easier to empty quickly and refill.. and it makes the geese happy when they can step into the pans and muddy up the water for everybody else..
