vicki...Aussies can go broody! I have one setting right now and had a different one hatch a batch last year. As for changing her mind.... good luck! I did read a cool bath may help....but it didn't work on one of mine.

Maybe I didn't do it enough?

When I went to close up I noticed Storkey is broody again! I took her off the nest (It's in a bad place, right by the door, and she could get stepped on!) it was like she was attached with a rubber band! Took off 2 more times and put her in a nest... rubber band snap back to where she was! Guess I better get the new brooder boxes done

Hey--I was just going to suggest the same thing! LOL--if you have any "pink eye" meds left from kids that would work too.
I am trying to find a good restaurant that me and my brother ( and fams) can meet at. We diceded the Machine Shed in Pewaukee but I dont know how GF friendlay that would be...especially on a holiday! So I am stumped.....they were supposed to come here but they are "AC puppies" so think that it would be too hot! Now we are trying to find restaurants that are ok for GF and still OK for smaller kiddos. AND open on a holiday! This is no small feat let me tell you!

So anyhow--Have a great Holiday--no fireworks here....a burning ban (even grilling)) so they are cancelled We might be able to see Milw if we go up to the hill!

Holy cow is it HOT! Did a girls day out and took the two DD's and Ford Mommy out shopping in the /valley. LONG hot day in Appleton but the beach afterward was SO worth it! FM sends you kisses Joe....

Hitting the beach again tomorrow.

I've been spoiling the ducks with slices of cold watermelon to help them keep cool. Poor babies.....

Later all, I am pooped out from this heat! We had our fireworks tonight so we had a great show from my sister's backyard.

I hope everyone survived the storms up north ok. It got real dark out this morning while I was out by the critters, but we were skunked yet again.

8-10" hope FT/ET are alright! Don't think she'll need the 4 wheeler to get neckid and wet. Can just see her makin mud pies in the buff. With feathers. Great now that visual is stuck in my head.

Hey CC-Question for you!! I know you told me many many posts ago but how to you keep your rabbits from digging out of the car port? Didn't you put wire down?

Yes, we have 1x3" wire fencing laying on almost the entire floor of the carport, with the exception of a 4'x4' square dust bathing area in the middle for the chickens. We don't have anything on the ground out in the run, but they don't usually get to go out there very often. But they have never tried digging out there when they have been out.

I caught up again..only 395 posts worth of reading, LOL way to many things to comment about so I will just say, hello newbies, BigZ sorry about your friend, my condolences,
and air conditioned coop...................LMAO and I thought I spoiled my chickens because they have all my house fans............... geezzzzzzz BigF can I come crash at your chicken palace........ they have it made and I could use a vacation..............
Glad the horse is safe FT............ and hope you get him if he is made available........
I know there is so much more to comment on but for the life of me I can't remember them all....... sorry guys
Anyway, things have been crazy hear since June 15th, we did get the kids for the summer, so we have been riding the horses playing with the chickens, swimming to cope with the heat, trying to keep the garden happy, and normal running, we only get Adams kids for a lousy month in the summer so we spend as much time with them as we can, so I won't be around much until they go back July 15th.

Jim I did get 4 baby Dels for you in exchange for the 4 you brought me to the bash, we would like to come up for a visit before the kids have to go back so they can see your critters, when would be a good time and if you could Pm directions and a phone number that would be awsum.............. so for now take care all, stay cool, and safe............will be back as swoon as I get time. Wow it's hard doing chores in this weather!!!

I can only be out for 5-10 min, at a time. Lots of little trips

don't get to spend much time with my girls. Just basic stuff.

If anyone is interested in some EEs I still have some. Some are even all Ameraucanas.

Morning All! Too hot to be good. Ken think it's time to find a quiet spot with a cooler of long necks. Know all about the stresses of flooding your just letting it get to you. Reflect on what going right. Maybe throw a line in the water and hope the fish don't bother you.

Dang it forgot to say hello to our newest member and now the name escapes me. So HELLO new person!

Have a lot of mia's running through my head now. BF4me think you'll be put on the map as Chicken Hut B&B. Your gonna need to get wifi though. And a TV. GEEZUS that's bad! I get told all the time that I'm bad puttin in a thermostat controlled attic fan. GR sounds like things worked out as far as the kids. Not a good situation for anybody. Gave the garden a good drink last night. And the yard is finally burning up.

BFF came out yesterday and got the card out of his trail cam. 3 bucks several does and one doe with a fawn. Awww. I've seen the doe in the yard but not the fawn. Slept in till 6 now I'm behind, gotta go.

Happy Independence Day everyone!!

Just checking in before chores! Ben has been loud this morning and I have a hen that must be laying square eggs for all her cackling!
DH and I went to a butcher shop in Stoughton yesterday and got a steak for the grill tonight. I also got some potato salad, regular green salad, corn, and an Apple pie. You know, because what is more American then apple pie!!

I'm hoping tonight will be relatively quiet. I know a bunch of counties have burn bans in place. Guess I should make sure I can still grill....

I actually have to mow the lawn.....the few weeds that aren't dead are growing well....like weeds!

Ken-I was a foot stamper...my Mom had the same reaction as you....learned not to stamp my foot pretty quick. Sorry you had a bad day yesterday...hopefully yours will be better today!

CC-thanks for the info. I'm going to write that down so I don't forget!

BigFam-I'd love an AC unit for my coop. DH won't let me get one.

I'm thinking about getting a window fan though to help with the air circulation....

Dan-H&R and To gave you good advice. You can also use Terremycin (sp) eye ointment. That is OTC if you can find it. It's pricy but a good thing to have on hand in your chicken emergency kit. If you can't find it at F&F/Mills you can order it off the net or your vets office will have it. You might just have to flush it a few time today if you can't get any treatments since it's a holiday.

irrigation running in the gh the plants took a beating yesterday in that heat, did get the fans running with the generator and power was restored here around 2:30,,, should have some maters this week plan to open the stand around the 15th, right now selling anything I have to egg customers (that was the plan when I got into chickens)

ok time for a few errands then consider going to the early parade in 3 Lks, always a nice picnic at the park following brats and corn brunch sounds pretty good
