Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Can I say again how much I HATE driving on 41? Tonight traffic was at a standstill due to idiots rubbernecking the crane collapse accident...... Took me 30 minutes to get from my work exit to the HYW 45 exit....

And that's the good news! The highway 45 off ramp is OPEN!!!!!

No more screwy directions to get to the Camp next year! Should be a straight shot up 41 to 45

Off to the beach... Ciao!

Hi all! Finally cooling down after spending a very hot day at the fair. First we set up our department then I went and watched the judging for the canning I took in. I know I got at least one first and one second...not sure about the rest! Then I went into the chicken barn to find my show cages and put the dishes in. I have chickens all over that barn! It is not going to be real fun taking care of them this year for sure. I think I take them in on Tuesday. Guess I will need to be bathing some birds this weekend!

I think I am going to have a pot of dinner...then go outside and check all the animals once again!
Later--Terri O
Hi Terri!

just put your seeds in the envelope, they will go to the post office in the morning. What fair are you in? We have a county fair up here but it honestly is really lame. Totally 4H. Ok, here is a dumb question

how do you bathe a chicken and with what? I've been washing my pasty butt right along but never tackled bathing a whole bird.

So, the dog is doing well:) Her and my lab are having a blast. The dog is a little underweight, but that's easy to fix. She is good with the kids, doesn't seem to have a prey drive. Smelt the chicks but had little interest. She has more energy than my lab, a lot more, but isn't pushy and doesn't jump up or anything. This is so far, of course. Taking her in for a check up tomorrow. She has fleas, but I put frontline on after giving her a flea bath. Plus since everyone else has flea prevention I'm not too terribly worried. Look at her eyes!

She wouldn't stay still long enough for a better picture xD Glad we got her before they took her to a shelter. Lord knows bully breeds sit in there for too long.

Hope Your FFF is nothing but the best!

Jim, we rent the stump grinders at Camp every couple years. We had one earlier this year before the bash for some stumps near the circle....while they do a great job, the more help one has, the easier it goes...bring the ear protection too.

Great to hear about hwy 45 bl4...my trips to fondy will be easier from here for sure.

Happy that the dill is growin good Doc...mine is good enough for this years pickles, but i was hopin I could help the butterflys that love em....maybe you will get those ugly cats on yours that turn into a prince!

Finally had a momma turkey hen with 6 poults....way fun watching her teaching them.

Congrats on the canned stuff awards TO....The local grocery finally stocked some nilla coke....I'm pumped and enjoying...thanks for helpin me out on that issue a few times.

My daughter and her fiance both work full time in the woods at different places...he was feeling really crappy, so they went to the hospital...found out he has lyme disease...picked a couple ticks off a couple weeks ago, however never had the red target circle like sometimes accures....sounds like drugs for awhile for him.....one of Angies co- workers aquired the new strain that is around now...he's been off work 2 weeks now.....I hat to say it, but check for ticks when in the woods afterwards.

yep on the ticks!!! I wish they would tell folks there are more tick borne diseases than just Lymes, altho that's bad enough. I picked up one of the "other" bad guys 2 years ago but had a sharp doc and even tho I had no bullseye (just a huge red, hot spot) he didn't wait for tests and got me on some high powered antibiotics right away

. Had a dear friend and neighbor who picked up the worst of the "other" ones back in 94. This one, altho much more rare, has the potential to kill rather quickly. By the time they got a proper diagnosis he had a stroke and went into a coma. Once they figured out what was going on they were able to treat it and wake him up but he had no idea who anyone was and the speech center of his brain had been damaged. He eventually got his memory back but he had trouble with being able to retrieve the names of simple objects and places for the rest of his life. One complication led to another and I eventually wound up doing his palliative care til he passed 4 years ago.

BTW~ the tick that gave me the "other" disease (and my friend) was NOT connected to me for more than a few hours at most because it was not big at all. So, so much for the 24 hour thing.

TerriO,  I did a quart of quail eggs once..  it took 50 eggs ..

Annie went to Mosinee to look at a lift chair for gramma.  the one she is in is too large for her tiny butt..

I am going to make a kettle of sloppy joes.. then we can just eat whenever we feel like it with no additional cooking..  No formal meals during this heat wave..

I should make some ho-made buns, eh?

I wish I had the recipe for buns like the ones at the bash..  was it Kim who made those ?

whoever it was, post the recipe asap and I will have time to make them yet , today..  otherwise I will just have to wing it with my bread recipe..

.............jiminwisc..........

Yah I was the bun maker at the bash, sorry this is late in coming....... recipe is easy though if ya don't mind making a huge batch, I never make anything less than 5 loaves of bread or 5 dozen buns, toss the extra's in the freezer if there is any, and with my bunch, that isn't often, they love em hot just outa the oven and between Adam and I and the 5 kids, a couple dozen are gone before they cool.
so here it is,
cook 4 medium potatoes, in extra water because you need 2 cups to add later...... I just peel and dice em up an add a good 4 cups of water.
in a large bowl add 1/4 lb of lard, I never use anything but real lard from the cooler or lard I rendered myself, so if you substitute I can't guarantee what will happen to the texture of the bread..
3 TBLS salt,.........when ya drain the potatoes dump em in and mash the crap outa them ( DON'T 4 GET TO SAVE 2 CUPS OF THE WATER IN A BOWL)
in a separate bowl mix 3 TBLS sugar, 3 packages of dry Yeast I use redstar, and 1 cup of very warm, not quite hot water., let rest till its ready to add to the mix. use a large bowl or 4 cup measuring cup it will bubble over if ya don't.
back in your large bowl now should be the 4 potatoes, salt, and lard all mixed up, add 1 large egg and mix again
add 1 cup of flour then your 2 cups COLD milk mixed with 2 cups of hot potato water, THIS MAKES THE TEMP JUST RIGHT SO YOU DON'T KILL THE YEAST WHEN THAT IS ADDED.
then add your yeast mixture, mix well its pretty soupy at this point. then continue to add 5 to 7 more cups of flour until it quits sticking to your fingers, on occasion and depending upon the humidity you might have to add as many as 10 cups, continue to knead until it feels about right, Jim you've made bread before so will understand that sentence, if anyone else is making these who hasn't done bread before..... it feels sorta spongy, and not wet and you will not be able to incorporate any more flour.
Then add your dough to a oiled bowl let raise double, punch it down, cut in 5 equal pieces and form into loaves if its a Bit sticky add a bit more flour to your working surface,.. put in greased pans and let raise till it looks about double the size of the loaf, this bread will over raise if not watched and flop on ya then ya have to punch it down again ....arg hate that when it happens, but I haven't gotten that extra 24 hours in my day yet that I ordered, so it sometimes happens, even to me who has been making this bread since I was 14, over 30 years. LOL I'm old...... so anyone have questions just ask away..........Kim

Does anyone happen to know a person that's selling day old chicks that I could get in the next day or two? My fuzzy butt needs a companion ASAP. :jumpy  I'm stalking craigslist right now xD

Where are you I have babies just a week old.................. if your close I can get ya a friend..........Kim
