just got back in from watering the first row in the garden.. that is the row where all the plants were put in, 9 tomatoes, 8 broccoli, 8 brussels sprouts and 8 peppers..I have to cut a lot of broccoli before it blooms.. I gave at least a pint of blood to the mosquitoes..

then I mowed the section of grass at the end of the garden and all along the driveway I did spray some of the idlers with WD40.. No more squeak.. It is amazing what a difference sharp blades vs dull blades makes..

Nobody answered my question , again..

long day again,,,,just watched a neighbor that is starting a PYO strawberry operation, 3.5 acres/4k plants,,,got the first 6 rows in,,,,,,,kinda late in my thinking,,,but he did spend some big $$$ on a 16" well,,,watching this will be interesting

Jim stop pouting,,,,,,,not sure about Harlequin but Khaki Campbell and Indian Runners are egg layers

guess I was blessed with the potato beetles again,,,back in force another dose of Spinosade* tomorrow

the new deer fence is working, saw 3 young bucks and 3 does walking the perimeter again tonight,,,cut their buffet dining for sure

got the new shack/coop set on blocks today,,,run some perimeter wire buried, toss in some roosts, waterer, and feeder tomorrow the fool's hatch gets moved in,,,,the basement WILL be chick free tomorrow night

what kinda town doesn't sell .22 shells?

Tonight at about 8:30 I realized I did not let my meat birds out today They sleep in the old lean to for my goats. They are crammed in there like sardines and there is no ventilation! I'm so mad at myself and everyone else that was home all day and didn't notice. I left for work at 7:30, got home at 1:30, too the kids grocery shopping, got the dog's medicine and treated wounds. Took the kids on a long bike ride then got home and realized my poor birds were baking! One was dead and after they came out and drank and ate a little it was getting dark so they ran back in! I'm hoping they all make it through the night. Too many critters to take care of before work I guess. I had my nonobservant husband put the carcass in the woods for scavengers. No sense wasting it.

Jim, the Welshes are supposed to be very good layers, not quite as good as the Campbells though. I hatched 5 so far, more eggs in the bator now. 4 boys, 1 girl, super. They are a really gorgeous duck though, IMO. Also, anyone know how to sex 2-month Runner ducks? I have 2, they are quiet so I don't know if they are quacking or rasping.

I want to turn my guinea mama and her dozen loose in the garden. Tey are 2 weeks old now. The garden is 70x35, 6 foot tall fence all the way around. After they get used to things, I'll leave the gate open and shoo them towards the woods. Any kinks in this plan??

Dan, gonna pass the Spinosade reference along to my folks, they are having a terrible time with potato beetles, first time in 20+ years.

BL4, you just have the 3 adults left now?

Two weeks old is a bit young. The fence should help but as you might already know Guineas are very dumb !!! They are very hardy birds (as in few diseases etc). I've read that the keets are more fragile then chicks as far as temps go especially for the first few weeks. I always tell people that if they want 6 guineas to start out with 12.

Just sayin and giv in my 2 cents worth. Do you have a coop attached to the garden by any chance? I would keep them in the fenced in area for several weeks to protect the keets.

no kinks that I can see, IF you are attempting to feed the wildlife.. why are you shooing them towards the woods ?? I do everything to discourage mine from going into the woods.. with very little success ,, I might add..
