I live in IL... GO BEARS! hahaha

X2 on cool day today. It was off and on damp today, but then in the afternoon it was windy and cold! Very cloudy day too. Chickens loved it cuz they love it when it's not to hot, gave them relief.

Evening all!!
Not much going on today. Went to Maynards for a couple of those plastic gutter down spout accordion extender thingies for one of our down spouts. Some day I'll get some rain barrels!! While there, they had a back to school sale on pens and such so I got a couple of packages of pens because you can never have to many of those. I also got a new broom and dust pan. Oh and some anti bacterial kitchen wipes. And suet for the wild birds....
Now that I bored you to tears with that one, I also went to Petco to get cat food and cat littler or as DH likes to call it "kitty toilet paper".
Then I came home for lunch and called Charter because our TV/Cable remote is not working so they directed me to the Charter office in Janesville. So, back I went and exchanged our broken remote for a new one! Works great!!
Geez what a boring day! Wish I had much more fun then that to report!!

Tiki and Apyl-Nope! Ben is not a Welsummer. I guess he could look like one though. Ben is a Spangled American Game Fowl. He was from a dozen eggs that came from a family friend who lives in Cali. His was the only one to hatch. He is a sweetie and so smart! He knows that when I turn off the coop lights, it's time for bed so he hops up on one of the perches and waits for me to pick him up. He coos and chitters to me, telling me all about his day!

I love my AGFs! They are so smart and sassy and sweet. And beautiful!

FT-Glad that ET got to go home early. Hope you guys get the test results quickly.

Cind- Good luck with the pump!

Well, that was my boring day! As boring as it was at least the sun was not out and it was not too terribly hot. This weekend though will make up for it. Looking at 100* + weather this weekend.

ETA:
Welcome Partyonaroost! What brings you over to the Cheesie side? Just curious since it's always the more the merrier here!

Hi again...popcorn for dinner for me! MMM...WITH butter! I am not sure what the people ate...guess I will cook tomorrow. Speaking of--I am cooking at The Pines tomorrow and then a client for the afternoon. Then I NEED to weed the garden! Can you believe what a little moisture can do? My path had brown dead grass on it and today it has 1" green little grass growing! The geese and ducks are really happy for sure.

I am so happy that there is a cool breeze coming in through the North window...another great sleeping night for tonight. I am excited!

Well, now I have my "long winded friend" on the phone so I guess I'd better get going....later all--sweet dreams! Terri O

Kids busted the ipad a couple days ago. Much harder to check BYC compulsively if I have to sit AT a computer! Its in to be fixed. SO thrilled with my children...

I loved the cooler weather. Fans in the window. Fresh air. And the chickens decided to explore. The roosters were actually in the backyard. One of them kept crowing underneath an open window. He sounded like he was DIEING (over and over and over). I think he should be the first to have for dinner.

I think Im going to pick a couple of roos and pen them up for a week. I heard the meat will be more tender if you do that first. Im wondering though what I could feed them during their time of confinement to fatten them up? They"re not meaties, so they eat the layer/scratch I have for the girls normally. Any thing really caloric I can give them?

I seperated out some birds to add to the flock. They were already in the brooder thats in the coop. But I thought it would be better to put them in a different wire cage so the birds notice them more before released. The main flock is so used to those birds in the brooder, they just ignore them. I am slowly adding birds to the main flock. Its going to take some time so I dont stress everyone out. But I have had birds in the house since JANUARY. In order to get birds out of the house, I have to make room outside. To make room outside, I have to start adding to the main flock. Im ready to be bird free in my house.

For those of you with silkies, do you let them out of the run? I know they dont see the best, but I hate the idea of them being stuck in a little run all the time. I figured they'd just be out in the backyard. I'm thinking like playtime in the late afternoons. I am keeping them seperate from the large fowl (because you all said too) So the silkies will be in the mini coop in the backyard.

With the storm last night, my next door neighbor says he saw a tornado in the field across from our house. It then went down to his farm and took down 2/3 of his pole shed. Then it went to the next neighbor, and ripped off their porch and flipped it onto their roof. No one reported a tornado on the news. But Sauk City had a lot of damage. Get this: I was confused why Dans cousin came knocking on the door asking if we were alright and if I wanted him to check for damage. Huh? For a little wind and rain? Our house is so loud, that with my 5 children and 2 nephews over, apparently I cant even hear a TORNADO! Jeepers creepers! I sure did make sure to say a prayer right then and there for being spared. Right across the road.... never heard it...

Ok, gotta get kids off to bed. Since the nephews stayed over last night, a couple kids stayed up really late. Then those kids fell asleep this afternoon. They dont look too tired yet, but its 9:30 and they have school tomorrow. Time to crack the whip!

Nice cool day today!

Not as "chilly" as up by Bigz, but a beautiful day nevertheless. The chickies were definitely enjoying it too. They had a ton of energy today, (not to mention libedo), ahem, which was not exactly good for the brown, slightly less crispy, pathetic excuse of a lawn I have. The rain softened it up just enough to make clawing and scratching it out by its roots that much easier and more fun.

So much for hoping the grass would survive at least one season.

me now. The weeds were moderately easy to pull out. Most of them, anyway, and the chickens enjoyed them immensely. They were about the only thing still green left in the yard (the weeds, Jim).

You aren't kidding, Terri, about what a little moisture can do. While we don't have any lawn even remotely green around here yet (didn't get as much rain as you), my flowers and other plants sure have perked up. I water them daily & they still look like heck. But get one night of showers & a little lightening and instantly everything looks like it got a mega dose of Miracle Grow! I just hope some of my bushes and trees can recover.

We definitely need more rain, but what we got so far combined with these cooler temps sure helps a little. Too bad it won't stick around.

Well, the back is telling me I spent way too many hours leaning over into flower beds today. Time for a date with some tylenol PMs. Sweet dreams, all, and enjoy the cool breeze coming in the windows!
