Vicki, I think your problem is the feed. I had switched to Purina Layena once and all of my gals started laying thin shelled eggs. Take the oyster shell & mix it right in with the Layena when you fill their feeder. I found it to help until I could get them back on some decent feed.

Ryan, I don't know about putting DE out in the run. That would be a lot of DE. Did you mean in your coop? I use it in my dust bath area & like Amy said, sprinkled on top of the pine shavings in my coop.

Hi all!

vicki....When we have running water it's not too bad. I have my network of hoses hooked up and don't have to go too far. Winter I have to haul from the house, but most of us do. I think a good part of our lot was marsh at one time, very low and rich soil, parts even get mushy in a normal year. Hope your arm is better soon! But if DH keeps doin' your chores, I can see you milking it a bit

Bf4m.... I would just let it be and see how it goes. If it doesn't get worse or more pop up she may live a long happy life.

Apyl.... I think there are enough people with roos to re home here that you could find a real nice one! I have a bunch too but they are Ameraucana or Ameraucana crosses. They are pretty and can get pretty tails... but all the combs are small. But good temperaments.

Well, well, about the well. Don't have the final bill yet, but found out something interesting. First off the old pump was 58 years old! I guess it had a right to give out! They also had it set 48 feet down but when they pulled it they found out the well is 90 feet! They cleaned out all they way down and that is were the new pump is. Looks like it's pulling better water too! It seems "brighter", cleaner and DH haven't even refilled the softener yet... maybe we won't need it now. Wonder why they didn't drop the old pump that far? Oh well, works for now.

Aww Chicken drama!... Don't know why but Jasmine seems to have quit her broodiness. Fine with me. The Aussie is still setting tight on the guinea eggs but the broody guinea that was in the coop got kicked off the nest by the Pepper the black Cochin.

I don't need more broodies now! DS didn't have a chance to look for the missing guinea.

Well, better get dishes done... night all!

Still working on my broody took her out last evening and she stayed out for quite awhile going out at soon as L leaves and make her growl.

Just pulled her out of the box and she had laid an egg. She hasn't been eating, drinking, or taking potty breaks and really makes up for it when I get her out away from the coop. Hope to break her and hope she goes broody in the spring. Coolio on the meeting announcement Bl4 hope it all goes well! Apyl any interest in a Australorpe roo? Not the Kellogs roo your lookin for but a fine young specimen! Very observant and protective and he likes to breed too! When Peatwo is far enough away.

You may remember the pics it's Sparky with the whie ears. Free to a good home! There was so much more but I forget.

Oh ya that SUCKS Bigz about the fox she must have kits close by if she's that brazen. Gonna have to start packin when your outside. Good aiming my friend!

Cindlady~ great news about the well! Hubby tells me they never put the pump at the bottom. It was probably pulled up to the water they liked at the time. Glad you are getting good water. Our sand point well had great water but when we drilled a well, we had to go down 75 ft before hitting a good flow and now we have a lot of iron in ours, yuch. Hope my crazy broody butt gets off her golf balls soon! Getting tired of dragging her out of the hot coop in the afternoon. I moved her golf balls to the end nest, picked her up and plopped her on them and there she sits

. Hoses wouldn't work for us. First, hubby didn't want to draw that much off the house well (stirs things up) and we don't have just one garden, we have 4 different plots.
OUCH, arm starting to hurt again, "Hunny can you let the chooks out?"

Jim~people got their wells concreted up? OUCH! Wonder if it was a pollution thing. OR, I know some folks up here were forced to seal their wells and hook up to the town system "for the public good" aka the town needed the money because somebody screwed up a grant proposal for the new sewer/water system and they didn't find out until it after it was already under way. They tried to make us (and a bunch of others around Post Lake) pay for their water system even tho we are literally over 10 miles from the end of the line-that didn't work out so well for them-

Our well was testing clean but we went drilled anyway, one of the main reasons being that we were "down stream" in the water migration from huge potato fields that the farmer pours more chemicals on then we care to think about.

I have my girls back on Nutrena layer pellets this morning. I only switched to Purina because I wanted to try crumbles and wasn't sure about FF Sprout. Never been a huge fan of Purina, even for my puppy food but thought I would give it a try. The chooks really dove into the feed after discovering I had switched back so I think they are happy. I'll try to remember to do a follow-up on any change, or lack of, in a few weeks.

Well, supposed to get more rain later so I have to go chase all the wild turkey pullets off the edge of yard (been letting them eat my grasshoppers

) and get busy.

Good Morning Everyone! Huntress I've got cuc's soakin too. Went out this morning and picked as many as I had picked the last 2 days, their gonna come fast and furious now.

I don't really know what to do with all of them....maybe I'll do some relish this year.

I see you are from Nekoosa. I used to spend a lot of time there...late husband's folks lived on one of the lakes. There used to be a pottery shop (East of 21 I think). Do you know if it's still there? Do you know the name?

Good morning good "human type folks!" LOL--that was funny to read the other day, what was more humorous was the fact that I understood her completely!
THe chilly chick I brought in continues to do well...so little compared to the others! Thy may be moving to another location today...depends if I get my act together and get the other area (and it's birds) cleaned and moved to their new area and of course that area needs to be cleaned before I repopulate it and it's occupants moved and then....it is like one of those little puzzles we had as kids! I think of that so often with the set up I have here--oh he!!, with my whole life! You know the one...it had numbers or sometimes letters on little plastic squares in a frame. You had to move them around and try to get them in order...yeah, I think I wasnt very good at them either! We must get in a nostalgic mood (us "older" folks) when typing...roller skates! (we did Roller Derby competitions on those!) I wonder what our kids will talk about in 25 years? Maybe how fun it was sitting in the same room with your friends and everyone texting other friends? Yeah....give me the roller skates and number puzzles!

Just put the sheets in the washer. Gonna try to hang them out today--between the raindrops? It seems to be clouding up again!
Dont know yet if I caught anything in the traps...I used a dead chicken for bait this time...one of my cockerals got an infected eye and felt skinny so he got to volunteer for the

good of the flock!

MXM assured me yesterday that she would pop on because she misses everyone. Her chickies are doing great and we sat in the yard so they could be out running around for a while. That blue Andalusian you gave her H&R is spectacular! Of course they all look good when there is no roo to bother them! (just think what beauties we would all be hey girls???)

Guess I better get moving here...not too much spare time before I need to go to work--and it is still kinda cool...you guys are making me thing I oughta go and check the cukes...havent seen much on them but I bet I have beans to pick for sure!
