Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

BigZ, do you remember the name of the hatchery here in Wega that you would get birds from, and when it was the last time you purchased from them? I am trying to get a timeline of sorts as to when this ordinance was changed. It would be great to find out when the hatcheries closed and chickens were banned.

Thanks!

These people should stop and think that allowing chickens will bring them JOB SECURITY instead of worrying about who will do what etc. Geez... use your heads people !!!

Good Luck with all of this.... we are behind you 100%

Hi All!

Jim... If you can't see the color.... why not olive green? That sounds like a great rummage find too!

amber... My girls get wet mash in the morning so once a week or so I dump the dust in the bucket and use it for wet mash... yea, they seem to like it better wet.

vicki.... sorry no more peeps...just think of all the attention the 1 will get.

Ok, started responding and got distracted (for a couple of hours) now CRS set in and I'm ready for bed!
Chickens all seem to be alive... family alive..young son has a kinda cool PT job... tell ya more later. Night all!

. I guess that's the advantage I have with just a very few critters. Everybody gets locked up tight in their little coop or snug trying to crowd me out of the bed at night. I still know and accept tho that even that won't make me immune to losses (especially since the trail cam is picking up coon and bear and there's been a fox "yodeling" just at the edge of the woods across the yard). Blessing in disguise I guess, because if I didn't have hubby reining me in I would have critters everywhere! One last time, so sorry for your loss.

yes, I am a funny chicky newbie momma, thanks. Hehehe. AND, you and CC were right. Chicky and momma are fine this morning. I did however, (did I say before?) removed the last egg after listening and floating. No sign of life. Yep CC. That is going to be one spoiled chicky baby if it makes it. Things are looking promising so far.

Was out drinking when I checked this morning and mom was trying to feed it her own pellets. Silly momma. Still parked on the nest by the way. Chicky baby, from here forth will be referred to as "Noodle" (well, I already have, if you remember, Stirfry, Crockpot, Fricassee and Soup) had found the mash I made from a little "chicky water" and starter crumbles and was pecking at it. 2nd attempt actually. First time mom ate it all! Can't blame her, she was hungry!

Wait til hubby hears of my next project for "us"

. I am working on plans for an addition to the coop. A little brooding room connected to the coop on the east side. Anyone gets bored, (yeah, I know right?) I would welcome some design suggestions.

Have a great day all! I have to get out into the gardens today and quit playing with the chickies! We could get FROST tonight!

When I woke up this morning my chickens were out! I forgot to close one of the doors on the coop. Good thing the dog wanted out in the middle of the night or they may all be dead. The bad news of the day is that my silkie x orpington is a rooster! He crowed this morning. I was really hoping that was a hen. I actually just assumed it was. Oh well, I'll have to rehome him I guess. Even though he'd be a good boyfriend for my bantam faverolles and my silkie x cochin girls.
I have 4 broodies at the moment. One is hatching bantam faverolle x bantam cochin chicks. One is on a ton of eggs that were layed at all different times and the other two girls are sharing a nest box with a mystery amount of eggs under them. The one hen is much too mean to reach under and they are in a very small nest box so I don't want to risk breaking eggs.
My goat wethers are for sale. They just aren't the same as my last goats. And now that Jon bought the mare, I don't need extra pasture mates.
The mare still has not had here foal! If she doesn't have it by next week I will have to call the vet. I'm not sure when she was bred, but when they lady sold her to me the first week of July she said she had the vet out to do an exam and she guessed about 4-5 weeks left. It's now been 7. Her belly seems to have dropped, I can see her ribs now. The gelding is being really mean to her so I'm seperating them today after they get done grazing in the yard. I'd hate to wake up to find a dead foal because the gelding stomped it. What if it died inside her? This is giving me a headache.

So, to sum it up: Someone take my silkie mix roo and my goats and make this mare have here foal.

I wouldn't worry so much about the due date.. so far all you have to go on are guesses.. If her belly dropped and things are changing, the foal should be OK.. if it will make you feel any better,, try candling..
