Vicki, I was on a waiting list with Our fly babies for over 4 months to get SFH chicks this spring. Never did get them. There was always one excuse or another. I had gotten other chicks from them the year before with no problems. There was someone on the SFH thread that just tried ordering from them last week and was told that they weren't laying or something now too. I ended up getting hatching eggs on ebay.

I will have eggs and chicks next spring though! I've got 6, one month old chicks right now, though one has severely curled toes.






Is there a way to straighten the toes? More vit? or calcium? or ???

looks like I could finally get some rain the next couple of days, to late for the corn the girls will get it now and the stocks will get sold hopefully

if anyone is going to the fall bash is also going to the Portage show and Jim's wine is ready by then I could bring it to Portage, kinda like a courier thing

cassie this was my 1st year hatching but all the chicks I had with deformed feet were one's that I "helped" I culled the worst ones, I let 2 of them grow to 21 weeks when they were butchered, they got along fine and were the same size as the others,,,just sayin

Morning all long night for me up with Bugsy, he hasn't eaten since Saturday Night, and now all he does is throw up, even Dramamine and water, poor ole boy........... i think his time is up, because I Have tried everything I can think of and everything the vet could think of and nothing works well or for very long, taking him in today and depending on what the vet says will most likely put him down, he is just miserable and just wants to lay in my lap or at my feet, between bouts of being sick....
Well I got 11 qts. of juice and 7 qts. of Sauce all canned, pressure canner here 1 hour 15 minutes.......what the book said for meat sauce......... added burger to mine, so when I have it I just gotta make noodles. and garlic bread.
Those SFH and very pretty, I thought about getting some from Greenfire, but after looking up cost plus shipping, WOW I just cant afford such a luxury, and boy would I cry if 1 died.....maybe someday.
It can be added to the b4 I die list I guess........ right now I just wanna work with my Delawares, and that will be hard enough seeing as how I only have 3 hens, and 1 maybe in my soup pot if I can't break her from feather eating, gonna try separating her to the Chicky house for a month or so and reintroducing her and will see what happens, birds are starting to molt so maybe they will actually get some feathers back so I can see if she is still doing it, or find out if someone else is doing it too.......... argggggggg darn birds I think they must be doing it out a boredom, because they get high protein feed plus the layer, plus garden and scraps, scrambled eggs a couple times a week, it surely shouldn't be deficient diet......... maybe I'll put everyone on a vitamin pack for awhile, to see if something is lacking there.. My egg eater still gets an egg every once in while and she will be going along with the boys at butchering time for sure. Unless someone wants to try to break her, she's a nice looking Speckled Sussex, but I'm done with her bullcrap egg eating.

Jim can't wait to see the pictures of the tractor pieces scattered all over , actually can't wait to the see pictures of the finished tractor............ I like the guineas, but not so crazy about dark meat, so will stick with chickens and turkey's once the new coop is built half of it will be for the turkeys I plan to find next spring.......... so if anyone knows of anyone around here raising Midget whites, please let me know.

TO........ Nice potatoes I never seen a few of them b4, where did you get the purple/red marbled ones with the nice white inside.........I wouldn't mind planting some of those next year......... in a barrel though my soil just doesn't let potatoes grow well here. I got maybe 10lbs from a 30 foot row the last time I tried em. or I will have to make a special bed for them.
Well anyway I best be off here the horses will be hollering to go in there field soon here, and the Grandson is squawking for breakfast already..... so Later all have a good day.........Kim

Cherubs are all out the door and at school! I feel so OLD! My baby is in 5th grade and the oldest is a Junior! Next year I will not have anybody in Elementary school! They are all so grown up too.

I am off to the UW. First day of school there today too!

Good morning! Slow posting evening and morning....musta been that long weekend eh? Dan I hope you get your rain. We have "chances" here today...it's kinda foggy right now DD said on her way to work...but not a cloud in the sky--weird.
Feels odd on a Tuesday I have to go to work, at least only one job. I am doing the other one tomorrow or maybe I will put it off until Thursday.
Yeah Jim...you tempt us with a pic and then dont post it? What gives? I thought you got that fancy new computer so you COULD post pics?

Taste test is in on potatoes. Kim-I got them at a seminar in Jefferson. I wanted to go to the mushroom talk and I saw that they were going to have all the different potatoes to try. You could only get a few of each kind so I split with Amy who also wanted to try them out. I am anxiously waiting to hear her results to compare them to mine. I tried that barrel method last year and got about 3lbs out of them! I thought it was such a good idea too!

Tines of the fork pointing at Yellow Finn--delicious! A little waxy. I thought it would be good for potato salad too.
Clockwise then its the Purple Viking. Also a really nice tasting spud. Not real dry either.
Next is the Fingerling--less of a buttery flavor than YF's but about the same tasting as PV.
Then the RedGolds from the grocery store. Dry compared to how they are when you buy them. Not much flavor. They must revert back to the original parent stock?
Next is All Blue. Very cool looking when cooked but the flavor was reminiscent of dirt! (yes I did wash them well!) The skin was also papery in your mouth. I think they would be more fun if they were blue throughout!
So the definite favorite here was the Yellow Finn. A great producer too. Next would be Purple Viking--I just wish the plants had made more potatoes!
Guess that closes the potato report for now...I will dig the NOrland Reds, Yukon Gold and Kennebec after the weather turns "fallish."

In case there are any other Wisconsinites in the Milwaukee area looking for organic chicken feed, I've finally found a source that isn't half way across the state. Landmark Feed, Seed, and Supply in Cedarburg has the following:

I think this seems like a pretty good price compared to some of the other places.

good AM, tractor pictures are in my camera.. It has been so long since I tried posting pics, I don't know where to begin.. have to wait for one of the DD's to visit and show me how again..

I have the puppies loose.. If they leave the chickens alone, they are good to go..

Started my new work schedule today due to twins starting full day kindergarten. Most of my friends are sitting there crying and I am jumping up and down. No more daycare costs, kids can learn so much, make new friends and start an adventure today. Oh and I get some ME time on Mondays!
