Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi Everyone,
Been a busy fall...
Of my 4 BCM's hatched in May, one finally started laying...

This is her saying..... Hey, I think one of those is mine!

I am a fall picture taking fanatic this year.... I cant get over how beautiful it's been, last weekend up North was gorgeous too...

Good luck on the hatch!!

I've got 18 cream legbar and 10 Tolbunt Polish eggs coming in spring from swaps here. Can't wait!!
Legbars and Tolbunts, what a great score. I am jealous.

also- Legbars and Tolbunts sounds like one of those ambulance chasing law firms.

I have not been lurking lately, I am sure some of you have felt less watched. My 2 year old spilled water on my laptop and have been waiting for it to dry out

Glad everyone enjoyed the bash. I told my wife about it the day it was happening and she said " You didnt go and talk chickens with people that WANT to talk chickens?"

Shes the one who wanted chickens and I am the one who became attached to them..

My chickens keep me calm.

Good morning! Gina, great that you came in and updated us! Very cool that you have done some shows too...and I cant believe that you are whittled down to a "winter" flock--oh I wish...but not really ya know? Anyhow, nice to hear what you've been up to for sure.

I think I am gong to make this message rather short..I am having the worst time spelling correctly today; perhaps my fingers didnt sleep along with the rest of me last night? Went on a nice ride with my friend and her DH took some video of us riding. I am anxious to see it because I have never been videoed while riding...it is easy to see what you are doing wrong when watching for sure! Commander seemed OK on both the Tues. and Wed. rides-now if that coronet band doesnt blow out we will be home free. (I hope)

Tommy woke me up with his crowing this morning. He just went on and on and on...I put a pillow on my head and he stopped...only to resume when I took it off! Now he is still on his perch and didnt even come down for popcorn. I kinda feel like I should vacuum by his cage or something....
We are doing this step recording thing for the hospital and rec center. I grabbed a "goal" out of the air...funny that I was pretty close these first 3 days! I guessed 20,000 steps and I have been up to 17,000...so I guess it was a good goal. Still I am amazed I took that many...now I know that just feeding the critters is around 5,000 steps; more if I water. When this is done I want to see if I can set it to horse step distance so I can calculate my riding miles too. That would be interesting. Not sure how it works with 4 legs though.

Today after work I am thinking about closing up some of the ventilation places in the coops. In my layer coop I staple feed bags over the chicken wire that is the top of the walls. It works really well to keep the warmth in and it's free too. THis year I concentrated on folding the bags to store them instead of just tossing them up on the dog kennel...I think it will be much easier! I have a few cdracks in the foundation again that I will fill with Great Stuff foam (love that stuff!) Then I need to lay out the electric cords and check them over...I hate dong that job when it is already freezing outside. Maybe I am learning in my old age?

Thanks for the recommendation on the thread (Gina?) I saw that one and was wondering what it was about. Jim, if you want to tell somebody how to get here you can tell them the BYC address then how to get to this forum or you can look up on the top of you page (where the back arrow is) and the address is up there. IF you can get her email then you can just copy and send it to her instead of writing that whole thing down. Easy peasy!

Guess I better get moving...took the curtains down in here yesterday to wash. I want to get the windows washed before the cold too and get up my winter curtains...so much to do! (and nobody gives a **** to help either!)
Have a fantastic day! TerriOwithnotacloudintheskyhere

Gee--Looking back that message wasnt really short was it?

Just had to pop back on and say good morning to JJ and to tell Vicki and Amberfea (the other Terri?--sorry cant remember) that I love the pictures! I love fall too...it looks like you girls need sunglasses to walk in your yards! Good day! TerriOobviouslyachatterboxtoday

Wow- the pictures are gorgeous! I think the colors this year are the prettiest they have been in years.
Sorry to hear that Gina. Was it the one you showed us when we were there?
Still waiting on my Ameracaunas to lay eggs. So far we have gotten 3 eggs since we got them. Thinking they are stressed from being picked on so bad when they first came. Hopefully they are starting to feel more comfortable and get to work!
Off to the rheumatologist today to get test results- hopefully it will be something manageable.
Hope you all enjoy the beautiful day!

I think the pedometer would work with 4 legs in that the back 2 always travel as far as the front 2 otherwise you would not be able to find your horse's *****.

TEE HEE

just stopping to say hi before getting some paper work done. Just got back from helping out a school this am- they have activity bags(reading) that kids in 1st thru 3rd can sign up for to check out so I helped with that.

Was up at 4:30 am thanks to Ellie( our Aussie pup) she was all worked up because of the storms approching and around us- you would have thought we were in the middle of a rain storm

She managed to rock the crate hard enough that she sent JJ (the rabbit) who has his cage on top of the dog crate to the floor- upside down! So DH and I had to clean up that- thankfully JJ was just fine and not even freaked out because of it- DS(7) woke up and he helped by cuddling JJ until we had everything back together...... no point in going back to bed by that time

Of course the older 2 kids slept right through it!

Nice picture that everyone has been sharing, love the fall colors. Our tomatoes are still slowly turning red- we have them on our screened in porch.

Sorry to hear about those losing birds, we lost our Marans rooster -Hilarous the other day- not sure if he had a heart attack or hit the run fence and broke his neck- no marks on him at all.

Anyone ever use a "blue" pumpkin to make pumpkin pie with- DS(7) went to a pumpkin patch the other day and can home with a blue pumpkin- told me that you could make pie with it-- he loves pumkin pie.

Hope everyone stays warm today- probably going out to scrap a pen clean before the rain hits this afternoon.

If you can find any in your area" Pink Banana Squash" are AWESOME for pumpkin pie. or squash soup.

They have no strings in the flesh like pumpkins do. They taste great and have very little waste.

The down side is size. they can grow 4 feet long and 12 inches across. 1 large one usually sets us up with enough in the freezer to last a year, but it is alot to deal with all at once.

The seeds are easy to save and grow , just rinse, dry on a paper towel and plant after frost in the spring

happy hunting
