BBP, do you really like the Kent feed? I think there is a place around here that carries it, but I've never tried it. Anyone have any opinions?

Kristi, I would have done the same thing with the chicks. They should be fine.

David, I had a pair of banty partridge cochins and they are very friendly, hardy & long lived (Jack is 10). The roos make super awesome moms too.

Terri, so glad you found RR!

Ken!

Here is a pic of the new guy

Hi All!

Sad news, one of the kittens died
sad.png
I just found him. He was the runt and didn't seem to be getting his "share" so I got him some milk replacement. I only got to feed him once, and not very much, then mom moved them. Took a day and a half to find them. He couldn't have been gone for more than a couple of hours either.
hit.gif
I think he was the cutest too. Well, the others are doing fine.

The hot tub room is almost clean. Still haven't cut a new hole for the turkeys. They seem to be fine but don't know what they'll do when/if we get rain.

They do have that box shelter that they won't go in, but roost on!

Well, must sleep! Night all!

Hi Ken! Was wondering when you'd show up!

Angiebubs, Fingers crossed you aren't in the 10% - what time of year did you order from my pet chicken.

ghostrider, I will check out cochins., I am sorry to hear about your order. That is what I am concerned about. I am not sure if Purely poultry uses heat packs, I know my pet chicken does. I am thinking I will probably have to order more banties than I want and hope I can rehome the extras.

Celtic chicken, He is a beauty. I wish I could have a roo or two.

Cinlady, I am sorry about the kitten. My chow Maxine found an abandoned kitty on the side of the road, We waited 4 hours before we took her, had to feed here too. Now she is living with us and Maxine, thinks she is her mother.

It is raining here, we need it but now I have to go walk the chows in the rain. They don't mind though.

David

Now these babies will be very social like our last batch sine the garage is totally kid accessible all winter. 4 small Banting in an Clarke dog kennel...wonder how long they will make it u til they are too big! It's d'uccle are tiny though. At four weeks thy are the size of a normal day or two old.

Good Morning everyone! I don't know why I bother reading anymore most just goes away then some comes back later then i get on here and it's gone again.

Cind sorry to hear about the runt. I always love the runts rooting for the underdog has always been my way. Any chance of getting a pic of the suspected boy? Bryan said there was a black and white cat hanging out by his place but was around 2 yrs old told him it had to be a kitten. Neat pic of your mamma TO! RR is getting to be like a bad penny. Can't wait for some of mine/yours to go broody next spring. Had the last of the caorrots out of the garden last night and am thinking of planting the garlic this week. Why is it when you look at a tree or blocks of wood on the ground that you think there's sooo much wood there? Bryan and I were done splitting at noon and I figure there's just over 3 face cords there.
th.gif
It's a start. Going to pull the splitter in today and change the recoil clutch, tired of fighting it. Thanks for the 3 week info on the clean out! Will isolate her before I put them in a lock up love nest.

David, just shoot PP an email. I sent Tyler a message on his FB page asking him about heat packs.... should see an answer soon.

Just shooed the last kid out the door.... she is so finished with school already... and has another year to go after this one!

I need to motivate here...... time for a refill and head out the door!

TTFN!

Hi Ken! glad to know you are alive and well and getting broody

Dr HaHa~I'm putting my garlic in on Friday. Been waiting for a good rain first but that's not going to happen so thought I would plan ahead of the big rain we are "supposed" to get on Friday. Hope so. I have all the hoses put away and don't want to drag them back out to soak the garlic in. They are only talking enough rain to knock the dust down for us today.

Angiebubs~prayers your way!

Cindlady~sorry about your kitty

Well, I should be getting my Valbazen in the mail today. Of course it's just in time for the last of the girls coming out of the molt
th.gif
Oh well, their health is more important than a few weeks of eggs. Going to go ahead and put the light in the coop this week anyway so I don't goof up their schedules too much. My biggest (and apparently healthiest) hen, Soup, has a lot of "spots" in the white of her eggs most of the time. Could this be being caused by parasites? She's getting wormed anyway, I was just curious.

Well, got to get busy now. Girls are out but I have work to do before I take DH to find out if he has Glaucoma. His Optician didn't like the results of his test a few weeks ago and referred him but it took this long to get him in to the "eye md" that comes into Antigo from Wausau. Wow. I sure hope he was wrong.

Hi all- everything is going Our new rooster seems to be doing well. He kept getting out, so I finally said screw it and now he is roaming around with the rest. I think it helps that the chickens share a pen with the goats and our mini horse. He isn't the top dog, lol! Still waiting on the Ameracaunas to start laying again. Anyone know if they will? Grace our hen with the prolapse seems to be doing ok. It goes in and out every couple weeks, but she is eating fine and still in same place in the pecking order.
When we built our coop we put hardware mesh with pull out drawers underneath. Now the poop is built up on top of the mesh because it doesn't really fall through. Any suggestions on how to clean it off and what to do instead?
I'm a hundred posts behind, so I will try to catch up before DS3 decides he's bored with playing tractors :)

Good AM, right on TerriO.. If you have to fix something, why not make it better ?

those bators are easy to work on.. and Yes, you have to take the back off.. Not a big deal, just a bunch of screws holding that piece of plywood in place.. some of the units have a sticky gasket, so you might have to pry a little to get the plywood off..

Once it is open, all the linkage is right there in plain view..

You do know about the 3 positions on the switch, I presume ?? Up = hold by hand and the turner turns, center = nothing is going to happen.. down = automatic timer activated...

kim, there is nothing wrong with butchering young roosters.. true, there is not as much meat on them, but it is usually more tender.. then you can make fried chicken...........

...jimcouldfixtheturnerifitwerehere...............

I was just walking out the door to go to town.. the phone rang.. it was a guy looking for roosters.. I told him if he came today, I would knock $1 off each one.. he said he would be here in an hour..

...........jimwaitingtosee.........
Thanks Jim-

I was afraid of that. I do not want to dig into someone else's property and be blamed for why it is not working in the first place.

I was hoping for a simple fix so I could tell him it is working so he would want it out of my garage. I could take it back to him , but it would just sit in his barn and rot.

That seems a waste. to me anyway.

Finally found out the meaning of madder than a wet hen. did the dishes and went out to dump the sink pan water Goldie ran right into the path, she got the whole load. After that she/he was challenging every bird in sight.
lau.gif
Good thing it's warm out for her/he. Judge bigger screen and a putty knife. Stiff carboard or an old spatula. JJ sounds like you might have a good score there. Back to work!
