Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning folks

wet but warmer so no complaining today

got the new/used manure spreader hooked up, adjusted, and all greased waiting for the loader (don't cha hate it when your buddy is using his own equipment when you need to borrow it?) anyway,,,hopefully get that project done today I'm running late on getting the garlic planted with this rain

Joe,,,,why do you need a woodsplitter if a 12" bar is all you have? making toothpicks to burn?,,,,must be alot warmer in the south or much smaller trees

both of you new saw guys enjoy them (a little Tim the toolman grunting injected here)

I could say reading Heathers early morning description could wake an olefart up,,but I won't

JIM,,,,I see you lurking over there,,,send a signal,,nod your head or something,,,did you break your typing finger?

I might take a nap today in order to watch the game tonight,,,esp if it's the second half the pack decides to play,,,not going to be an easy game

ok,,,,off to let the girls out

bbl
yeah Dan, I have been lurking.. nothing to write about that would interest most people..

Heather, my mental imagery is lousy,, maybe photos might help ??

why would you want a shorter bar ? I had them put a longer bar on mine when I bought it..

Morning! I am going to try and make some grape jam today.... I cooked the grapes the other night and stuck them in the fridge before I could strain the seeds and stuff out; think they should still be good to work with?????

No worries Cind! I hate the upkeep of tanks too! We have lost the Male guppy, one female and the Pleco. Since the tank had no fish in it for months I expected to lose a few fish. The tetras are all going strong though, quite lively to watch at feeding time, they act like a school of piranhas.....

Made some of that lovely homestyle bacon from our butchershop this morning. YUM!

I found yet another article about this burg.... they want to spend $3.175 million on an expansion of the wastewater treatment facility since one of the local cheese plants is going to expand. I cannot see the logic in this. Company is going to produce more waste, so the City must spend money to clean the dirty water from one plant? And then make the taxpayers pay for half the cost of the expansion? The company my DH works for had their own wastewater treatment facility right at the plant. They treated their own water before sending it back into the water system.... they never sent it to the local sewage plant.

So frustrating..... I should really quit looking at the local paper.

Good morning everyone. Still pouring out like crazy. Wish we would have gotten this in June and July.

Jim, How are the ladies doing? It was so wierd last night not closing up the coop or letting them out this morning.

Has anyone ordered from McMurray or Cackle Hatchery? What are your thoughts. I am not looking for show quality, just healthy birds

I am thinking about ordering 10 black tailed Japanese bantams straight run. Hoping I get 5 females. Do you think it would be difficult to rehome for free the males and extra pullets? The males are beautiful but I can't keep them

Also what is the earliest you received chicks in the mail. I want to order as early as I can but don't want a box of frozen chicks.

thanks

David

Good morning all--nice and RAINY outside. I shall be slipping and sliding in the mud for sure at chore time today. I think I will take the isle scraper and scrape my mats down that I put for a path. I dont want all that mud to freeze on them...a disastrous winter would soon follow I fear!
Tommy started sneezing again this morning~I think I need to take him out more and share drinks with him. Just cant seem to get rid of that snuffle he has for too long. Will try the treat video today.

Yesterday it was warmer outside than it was in here...I think that might be the case today too. NOt looking forward to doing chores for sure...cant find my hat..and just where did I stash that garlic??? I just had a bad thought...my son is home and he is nuts about fresh garlic on stuff...I wonder? Speaking of DS--DH came down today and woke the sleeping form on our futon thinking it was DS--scared the poor kid nearly to death!

Nope, not our son...

I think it scared DH too! Great, now I am collecting early 20s young men...BigFam--need a couple more boys in your house? I am sure they could teach yours something....probably nothing good though...let me know! (then I can pick up more garlic when I drop them off)

I just made the video of Tommy...I will see if I can figure out how to post it. Later! TerriOstillsickly

David, my sis has ordered banties from McMurrey a couple of times in the past. That is where my Jack came from 10 years ago. I believe their minimum banty order is 25 chicks.
On her 2nd order a couple of years ago, they shipped her chicks way too early, in March, I think, and she lost like 9 chicks. Then they sent her replacements in April, but she got 16 "packing peanuts" to make up the 25 chick minimum. "Packing peanuts" = roosters. And in her straight run bantam order, well over 2/3 of her chicks were roos also. Just so you are aware. I wouldn't hold my breath on getting 50/50. Sorry. Just MHO.

But I am frequently wrong.

Good morning to all, and welcome to Deli! BL4- I would think that would be fine. You are making freezer jam? Wet, wet weekend, I think my chickens are close to swimming. Canned some pickled brussel sprouts by my parents last night, and when I came home after dark the chickens were all roosting either on the edge of the screen doors for their run, or on the roof. I thought what the ? Well here the coop doors had all blown shut and they couldn't get in to roost. They must not have been able to get in all day ( I left in the am) because the only egg I found was outside in the mud :( Poor babies. The good thing though was that our rooster from Cindlady was roosting right on the door edge, so I picked him up first before picking up the rest of the chickens and put them in the coop. First time I ever held him, lol. Not much of "holding" since he was soaked to the skin and not in the mood, but none the less. Feeling kind of bad about not having a shelter for the mini horse and the goats yet, but I did see them under the chicken run last night, so i guess that will do for a few more weeks. Only had the DS3 for most of the day yesterday, and still as I am writing this. DD6 is at grandma/grandpa's, and DS 9 and DS8 are at my cousins. Wow- that doesn't happen too often! Now I just have to figure a way to get them ALL out for a day ;)
Hope you all have a great Sunday! Go Pack Go!!!

Horrible Sunday morning all

At least it's staying up freezing so there's no ice anyway. Wow, good thing my DH chopped me 3 bales of straw Friday into the run or the girls would be wading in the mud. Where was all this rain in September??? Absolutely must fire up the fireplace today to get the damp out of the house. Rearranged the "furniture" in the coop on Friday so I had a clear spot for the heater if/when it's needed and I must have really upset the girls' world! They no longer have their "new" favorite spot to lay, under the ramp to the roost, so now no one is laying except broody butt!
th.gif
I just happened to be working in the coop when the girls came in to check out the new arrangement and the looks they gave were a hoot! They stared at things for a bit then hopped up on the roost and literally spun around in circles trying to check everything out!

Dr HaHa~already learned I can't leave my DH on his own too much but to be honest, it's worse if he leave ME alone on Ebay or Craig's list too long!!!
celebrate.gif
Speaking of which, I think my DH is slipping just a bit. He's selling the old plow truck! We have a nice 2 stage snowblower but it doesn't have one of those cab things on it and we have a LOT of driveway! Worse thing is he's got a good price on it so it should sell fast
barnie.gif
Glad I still have my "farmers" snow pants that match my heavy barn coat, sigh.

That brings up a question for you guys. What's the best way to sell rifles???? (Went to do it on Craig's and found out you can't list weapons) DH has also decided to thin out the arsenal a bit and decided to get rid of 3 nice guns that just aren't his favorites; (all his sons are so well armed already they don't need them)

Remington 7600 30-06 w/Bushnell scope (gorgeous weapon fired maybe 10 times?) that was "inherited"~one of those long, but sweet, stories.
Winchester mod. 12 16 gauge 2 3/4" chamber pump
Winchester 30-30 model 94 lever action (was actually bought to be my gun but it has a hair trigger that scared me so he took it but never used it so it's just been sitting in the gun cabinet)

BTW~I didn't get the chance to see the coop on Craig's. It had already been pulled.

Hi Delisha!

Nice to meet you

(I'm the other Vicki) I lived in Waupaca for a while a very long time ago (early 80's?) and my son and his wife live there now (he works at the foundry). I am now one of the way up Nort'ers but there are lots of folks on here who are much closer to you. You just missed the "big international chickie show" for this year but lots of folks on here show and can give you all the where and whens. My chickies are all mutts (so far) but I love em. do you have a new flock yet? We love pics!!!

Well, I need to get a fire going now, go out in the rain and collect eggs, wash the dog (road trip tomorrow), make a big pot of soup and then watch some football!!!

Everyone stay warm and dry and have a great Sunday!!!!

WOW! everybody was posting while I was writing!!! glad the guys tried to keep it clean (Heather~you just love needling these poor boys), great video!!! glad you are back Jim, Dave, someone I know just received an order from McMurry and the ones that weren't DOA are dropping like flies. Their reply? "oops. must have been packed the night before the holiday so they didn't ship til the following day". They did say they will replace the whole order but, really???

Made the grape jam, I managed to get 3 pints out of the grapes. Followed Ball's recipe and just added sugar to the grape juice (and a little lemon juice and a speck of butter). It tastes delish!!!

Vicki, I had no idea you had lived in this area! Which plant does your DS work at? My DH works at Plant 1. You could always sell the guns at auction, but I bet you could find takers on here, or have your DS post at work.

TO, I did manage to catch the sheds ad on CL.... very nice! I would like them to build me one of those Log Cabins please......

Have to take the DD to work in a bit so I should get ready to go. I am being lazy in my jammie pants today so I better get some jeans on.

Later!
