Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi folks,

congrats on the new birds David,

just got done butchering the last of this years roosters, kept 2 BCM's to finish growing out with hopes for a better breeder come early spring. So 6 fewer mouths to feed and listen to,,,,went to a friend's to process he had 4 to finish off and he has a whiz bang 2nd time we used it,,,,nice unit. While we were working in the yard a hawk tried to hit his pullet pens,,,his brother a retired DNR bird specialist was more concerned identifying the hawk than he was for the chickens,,,,funny chit

remember this is the migration period so there might well be an increase in birds of prey for a few weeks

sun finally came out, work on the garlic beds this afternoon,,,,

guessing Jim and Annie are pluckin' and guttin' today, all of us making the most of this fall's good weather days, we've been spoiled the last few years

bbl time to find some lunch

Hi all!
Talked to TO and she wanted me to post an update. Sorry I have been away. Dh and I have had stuff needing to get done at the homestead and honestly I have not felt like being on the computer much at the end of the day. Sorry if I worried any one.....
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly at my house. I'll start with the Good

The Good:
The various critters are well and I have two pullets that are now laying! Yeah! All that food they are eating is finally paying off!

The Bad:
Tootsie dog had a very sore back so I took her to the vet. Long story short, either she pulled a muscle or she "hurt" a disc. Since she is a long backed mutt dog, I'm really hoping it just a muscle problem. Unfortunately the meds that the vet sent hope are only working so so to ease her discomfort so I'm thinking she might have to go back for a re check.

The Ugly:
*sigh* Twain, my DH, had a minor heart attack. It happened yesterday late afternoon and we got to the hospital in good time. Long long story short, he needed to have two stents put in and now will be on a strict diet and exercise (meaning he needs to do more of it!) regime. So far he is still at the hospital and hopefully will come home tomorrow with a boat load of meds.

So, there you have it. If anyone need to get a hold of me, send me an email. I have the email I use the most linked to my BYC profile.

must love hens, hope you dog feels better

ughhh I am so mad, All of the banties flew the coop. I was warned they were flightly but had no idea how flighty.
I was trying to put them in the coop, and they all took off. I managed to get three back, 1 japanese bantam and 2 seabrights. the other 3 flew into the woods next to my house into the trees. I hope they come back tomorrow.

keep us up-dated as you have time.

Evening All.... Best Wishes for a fast recovery Twain...let him know I said so MLH'S! Yep we were wondering where in the heck you've been. We worry you know, when folks disappear.

Hope the tracking was a success Angie, and fresh venzun is on the menu!

Nice pics CC....must be Spring somewhere ? You're foolin with Mother Nature girl.

Yep, larger fowl don't fly much, but bantys really do well...good luck getting them back.

The farm is sold...truly amazing how many folks have that kind of money to spend. The farm was sold to a number of folks....it brought 1.3 million. Thinking a 40 @ $160k is alittle pricey for me, even if it is a nice forest with deer and turkeys on it.

Good luck with the plumbing project Doc. That will be a great suprise for sure!

Lovin the fire again tonight. Some fireplaces don't burn that great. I'm lucky to have one that really burns nice.

good evening, tired tonight and it is still early..

we were visited by a fox around 3 PM on Friday.. I was standing on the deck with a brand new 308 in my hands,, no bullets.. long story why..

the fox went away hungry,,,,,this time.. apparently he was busy a few days ago.. our old peahen is missing,, and today Annie found a whole mess of turkey feathers in the blackberry patch.. why doesn't it take a chicken ? prolly cause the turkeys and peacocks don't go into a coop at night and they hit the ground at the first hint of daylight..

Dave, I wouldn't hold onto much hope for those chickens to come back on their own.. they weren't in the coop long enough to call it home.. You might have sort of a neighborhood watch for them.. they will prolly be sighted by somebody when they come down to eat.. good luck..
hope the preds don't get them..

We are looking for a Maremma , male, for breeding Dora.. willing to buy him if we have to.. let me know if anyone hears of one, OK?
will need it by Feb, , 2013 sooner would be better...
