Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Don't know what it's doing anywhere else but if it doesn't let up here soon I won't have to dig my carrots, they'll just float up on the porch all by themselves!!!!

I have NEVER seen puddles form on top of my raised beds before!

Had to go out and rescue my poor crazy chick, Noodle. Didn't let them out all morning because of all the severe storm warnings so when things calmed down I let them out for a bit. If it did rain, figured they'd go scooting back in. Plan worked well until we had a full blown cloudburst and the chick got trapped under the sun shade with everybody else snug and dry in the coop. checked the radar and it showed no sign of letting up any time soon soooooooooo, guess who got soaked putting the crazy chick back into the coop.

Haven't even been able to light the fireplace because it's pouring too hard to get to the woodshed, sigh. Now the temp is beginning to plummet and I won't even have a cozy fire.

I hear ya on that temp drop Vicki! I think it's dropped 20* here in the last 30 minutes. All the windows are fogged up. Weird weather...I wore shorts to work, it was actually hot and humid here. Now thunder, poring rain and 45*! Good grief.

Yes John I do have some of the Aussies left. They have just started to lay. I would think he could find some a bit closer though...if it EVER stops raining I might be able to take my horse somewhere and ride...*sigh* Speaking of...I sure hope they went into the barn, it is darn chilly out there with the rain and now the wind picking up too!

Turnips! We just got a bunch from the CSA too...I have roasted them with sweet potatoes.
got beets too...maybe I will make a roasted root veggie thing. What do you do with yours?

Well I have to get making the supper...something soooo delicious you will wonder that I am making it! (sshhh--Spam and Onions!) LOL--the "kids" are so excited! Reminds them of when they were little I guess...DH is picking up the buns on his way home. Not for me of course...I wish! I remember them from my childhood.

Later all...TerriOsoontobecryingfromslicingonions

Morning all!
ARGH! I just need to remember that all things come in 3's right? So Twain's trip to the ER this morning is the third so last one. Right?!? I was awoken out of my deep sleep to DH saying he needed to go to the ER. Felt like another kidney stone. Then he proceeded to drive himself! I said I'll take him but he was like "No. You need to stay to take care of the dogs!" ARGH!
I guess it could not have been that bad! So he is still there and they are "running tests".
Twain was a bear yesterday. Combo of no caffine, no smoking and change in food! He is doing well with the no smoking thing. Luckily he smokes a pipe so without a pipe and absolutely so tobacco around he does not have easy access.

Other then that, everyone is doing well. The meat birds are going next week for processing. Thank heavens. Tootsie Dog is much better do no return trip to the vets.

BigZ-I will tell him that with the money he saves on tobacco he can get his Bear Cat that he wants.
roll.png
He got me a present about a month or so ago. Right after I got my revolver he surprised me with my own "vintage" surplus Mosin Nagant. Comeplete with surplus pouches oil can and the bayonet. Once he is over all his "stuff" we'll go sight it in. He was jealous because his Nagant did not come with a bayonet....

Kristi-Twain is on a low salt low carb diet. The low salt is easy to figure out but the low carbs are harder. I got some new cook books to try out. Moderation is the key and I'm finding portion control is probably the biggest issue. We are so trained to eat big portions that when I see a "real portion" it looks miniscule! But I'm right there with him so we are going through it together. Although I won't give up coffee or chocolate. Lucky for me I love dark chocolate and that is the "heart healthy" one! True Southern Sweet Tea is the one thing I have trouble with. I love sweet tea. Not a fan of soda except for Blummers Root Beer, so soda is not a problem.
His doctors think that if he changes his lifestyle know and looses the weight he needs to then his blood sugar levels will get back to normal.

Welcome to the newbies!!

Well, I'd best get going! I'll post an update later
Hope Twain is doing better

I am ready for the rain to be gone- even though we need it- our Aussie pup has storm anxiety and can feel the affects for many miles of course this is the 3rd day this week that I have been up since 2:30 am- once I wake up I can't always fall back to sleep. If I go to bed now I will be up again early so trying to sort of function for aleast another hour or 2.

Best go finish up chores

I'm with you H&R! I have 2 that are like that! They lay next to my chair and just shake! At least they will go in their kennels though and be quiet! I dont know why I keep waking up in the 3 o'clock area...I am sooo tired too! Bed soon for me.

MLH--how is Twain? Man, when one thing goes everything does eh? I hope he is feeling better now and wont have to do any more ER trips!

Cool Evening To Everyone...lookin like no more 70's til next year. This was a decent fall weather wise compared to some we have had in the past.

Strange how some birds don't have the longevity genes compared to others. Kinda like people that live long lives with all kinds of vices, and others that are health concience still die young. Wasen't going anywhere with that babble...just sayin.

Picked for sure the last couple lbs of broccoli today. Made some with fresh carrots tonight to go with my bbq venzun sandwich on ho-made buns. My carrots are super sweet this year.

That reminds me to ask if any of you southern folks have eaten the take out bbq ribs, or chicken from speed queen bbq in Milwaukee....they were featured on wisconsin foodie, and their ribs looked delishious...just askin ? I'd love to go there sometime.

Hope Twain can get through this tuff transition time. It would be hard to change these old habits for sure...hope he can get that Bear Cat....sweet little single six...I could even see having one of those for the fun of it....one never has enough good stuff ya know.

We just eat the turnips raw, or we use them in the veggie soups and stews...they add a nice flavor to the soups and stews.

I almost made wood yesterday like you did Doc. Ended up playin in the leaves with a longneck at arms reach...even worked up a sweat doin that. Gonna be lookin for that pile of longjohns soon.

Was wondering if Adam checked out kohel Trucking Ghost ? Known him most of my life...think he is a fair player as a person and employer.

Congrats on the hatches...still to early to claim first ones of the year though....

evening all, Wow did we get the rain and then the cold. I fear the missing chicken isn't coming back. Poor thing. I wish she would have stuck around or I would have been faster
My neighbor did see me, He thought it was hilarious and didn't know chickens flew that high. Glad he thought it was amusing.

I am glad twain is doing ok, Hopefully the change in diet will solve the problems.

Tomorrow I have to make pancakes for some students, I am an advisor for a club and since we have off, we decided to rake leaves for the elderly after I feed 50 kids. God I am so stupid. LOL

better get to bed

later

JJ~ neat egg!!! congrats

Way too wild a swing in temps, conditions, way too fast. Hope everyone's critters can handle it ok. Wind chills up here are supposed to be in the low to mid teens by morning. i am going to have to knit my poor chookie with the bare butt a pair of long woolies!!!!

I have 3 more pipped now.
One of them is pipped at the wrong end. I'm not sure if that one will make it. But I'm doing my best to keep hands out. I want the strongest ones to make it since winter is coming. No wimpy ones that I hatch for them!

My babies say "PEEP PEEP"... laters taters!

MLH, goodness poor Twain!

Here, I have been doing some digging for you...

http://www.doctoryourself.com/kidney.html

Use that as a starting point, there are many ways to eliminate kidney stones....

If you are on fb, I would suggest the page Just Eat Real Food ...... she posts recipes from other sites too of course, but all of the food looks so dang GOOD! Remember you do not have to follow it EXACTLY, but there are good guidelines to follow and this site has some great recipes!

I know the docs are saying low sodium, but you can eliminate a LOT of sodium by cutting anything processed.... (but I bet you knew that already). It irritates me so much, these docs think 'one size fits all' when that is NOT the case! We do not all operate in the same parameters that medicine would like us to! I better stop now...... our medical attitudes in this country drive me batty......

The Irish Soda Bread was a hit! I made a big loaf and only a little bit came home. What did manage to come home was eaten by my wolves here.

Stopped at FF on my way home to get a snow/ice scraper for my car since I do not have one. I picked up charcoal too since I was there and they sell the natural lump stuff that I got my DH hooked on. Passed a fender bender on my way past Wallyworld ( I did like ChinaMart)......

BigFam those are CUTE chickies!..... You can give the upside down chickie a hand if you notice it getting really tired. The egg is tougher in the other end and it might exhaust itself trying to get out (which does not mean it is a weak chick).

Wild weather here today and I missed all of it. We had a storm go through that apparently had a LOT of cloud to ground lightning. All I had in Oshkosh was rain and a little wind.

I better hit the hay here...... 5:30 comes awfully quick.

Just lost my whole post! D@mn, I'm mad now!

Mmmmmm, turnips! One of my absolute favs. Kris, you can pretty much use turnips like potatoes. You can make a potato au gratin using them instead. I am a soup fiend so I always toss turnips in all of my soups & stews. You could mash them too if you wish. They have a mild cabbage-ish taste. They also go quite well with onions. On St.Patty's day, I always boil up a huge kettle of turnips, potaoes & carrots to go with our corned beef & cabbage. They are good steamed, boiled, roasted or baked. Same goes with beets, another fav. Yum! And I like eating turnips raw too, like Bigz said.
big_smile.png

Terri & H&R, I have been having the same sleeping issues lately too. I have a heck of a time getting to sleep, and then wake up in the middle of the night & can't fall back to sleep.

Vicki, sorry to hear about your soaking. I had to run out to make sure noone got locked out tonight & let me tell you, it is raining with driving winds down here and COLD! Unbelieveable how that temp dropped. I am glad it waited til later to get here, though. This morning, the weather man said it was going to move in by around 1pm, so I spent the morning cleaning up the yard & getting the last of my pots & stuff all packed into the greenhouse. I even got some of the garage straightened up. Barely a dent, though.

How can 2 people accumulate so much chit????
Oh, and I want to see a pic of your hen in her knitted "long woolies", Vicki. And one of Peatwo in his electric sock, DrH!
lau.gif
On a night like tonight, they might need them. Brrrrrrr!

Congrats on the hatch so far, Bigfam! Cute chickies.

Other than that, I got nuthin'. Stay warm & sweet dreams, all.
