Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, looks like a non productive day coming up.. I have to go to the eye clinic for a field of vision test.. maybe that will convince the Dr that my vision is in fact slipping..

Kim, you are right,, this weekend will not be good for butchering.. again.. there will be another ..
Our weatherman is talking rain.. ?? rain ?? isn't it supposed to be snow ?? I am not ready for either right now..

I picked up shingles and drip edge at Menard's .. why do I always feel P. -O.'d when I leave that store ?? not always,, only after talking to the guys behind the contractor's desk.. I'm sorry to bother you guys,,but I thought your job was to assist..

I think I should put some eggs into the bators.. this basement room is a bit chilly.. my cuppa shills down too fast.. How's that for a lame excuse to hatch some eggs ??

gotta get me butt in gear and get ready to go to Dr..

Morning all!
Love the pics of the kids with their costumes!!! We did not get any T&T'ers sadly.
The critters are all good so that is the same!

Well I have some very cool news! The City of Delavan called Twain and they want him to do two chicken seminars for them!! The actual city wants him to speak!!! How awesome in that!!!

Kritsti-try looking into a herding breed. Out of all my dogs those with the herding breeds mixed in are the best with chickens. Except for one Aussie. He doesn't like ducks for some reason. He's great with the chickens though and the rabbits done phase them. The chihuahua mixes are the worst in my house. DH called them The Pack of Chicken Killers.
Most labs are good with birds but as much as I adore them they can be pretty destructive as pups. Golden Retrievers are a terrific dog.
You might consider a dog that is just past pup-dome. I've had my share of pups and my share of 1 1/2 to 2 year olds. The older group was easier to train since they have the attention span. Plus house breaking was a breeze. Most of mine were already house broken or got back into the grove quickly.

BigZ-Sorry to hear about Susie's Uncle-your family is in my thoughts and prayers

Cind-Those kittens are so cute...to bad the grow up to be rotten spoiled fat cats that like to do bad kitty types of things....LOL!!!

Well, I had more to say but I've gotta get moving...
Later!

good morning folks,

looks like a nice day in the north country,,,sunny but cool

will finish the garlic beds today, spread the mulch, good to finallllly have those done

for what ever reason egg production is down, the BSL's are laying right through their moult and with no added lighting. Not sure what the deal is with these pullets, been expecting to find a huge pile of hidden eggs but nothing in any of the usual hideouts.

Jim good luck with that exam, can't you just take a note from Annie?

Joe take the weekend off and rest that back, having had one for years I know how hard that is but also know that is the key to getting "back" to work.

Kim, did you ever consider writing country western songs? some of the story lines are all in place,,,could be the answer to your financial woes!

Judge you were 30 miles north east of me, are you related to Finnlanders or Italians?,,,lol

ok, time to get busy

My Delaware hen is getting really skinny. I don see anything wrong with her. But ever since she got ripped up by a rooster she's been going down hill :(

Time to get these chicks off the paper towel and onto chips. I swear half of them are roosters! But that's fine, I'd be real happy with 7 pullets. You sensitive ones don't want to know what's happening to the Roos... ;)

I have a Birthday party for the 9 yr old tonight. Feeding them, then taking them to play laser tag in Madison. Then we're camping out in the driveway! Give the camper another sleepover before packing it up for the season. It's got a kick butt heater in it, so we'll be fine. Yes... I'm sleeping out there with the boys just to keep everyone comfortable and feeling safe. It ought to be a great nights sleep...

For the dog efficinados : I'm thinking about a dog as well. But I want no shed kind (yeah i know, its technicallly ultra low shed). I'm more than happy to get dogs hair cuts instead of wearing dog hair. I am technically allergic to dogs. However I am technically allergic to cats and birds too! I just want to reduce the sensitivity by going ultra low shed. I would prefer the small size, easy to train, great with kids, non chicken eaters. I'm thinking mini schnauzer. May be? But I am surprising myself with another choice... Standard poodle. There are a lot of reasons they are a good choice. And it's never gonna have a stupid cut! They aren't bad looking when just looking natural. But I am looking at them as we'll because of therapeutic qualities. The are a really great therapy dogs for a lot of things, but do really well with kids. They are very caring and gentle with them and really great with autism.

I told CC about this, but not so much on here. It is looking more and more like Halden has an autism spectrum disorder. He is responding to his therapies in early childhood, but he needs more. We are on a waiting list for the developmental pediatrician in Madison to get a diagnosis. But they can't get us in until early summer. Then if he needs any therapies we need to get a waiver from Badger Care (yep my kids are on it.) Badger Care only has so many slots in which they will pay for autistic services. Currently there is an 18 month wait for that. Frustration abounds because EARLY intervention is how you crack through these barriers to get their development moving. You don't wait until they're in kindergarten and hardly speaking before working with them! Idiots!!

Now you guys know why my child wasn't speaking at the bash, bigs or mini. He is showing a higher iq but his development is so slow in other areas. I'm doing my research for the best treatments. I'm adding him onto a Dean ins plan so we can get services paid for as soon as we need them. And I'm thinking about a dog that can relate to my son non verbally , bond with him, and help draw out words and attention. Lots on my plate I guess...

Good luck BF... I have a nephew in chicago with Autism Spectrum and the system is flooded there with referals to good drs. the good news is that there is help out there and madison has excellent doctors.

Noticed bubbles in my newer hens eye which looks to be a virus from doing some research on here, but she was already segregated and now getting antibiotics. That is one I never heard before.

Good news on the dog front. Had lunch with hubby today after refinancing our mortgage and he is open to dogs. I agree with thoughts on here, would love a herding type dog for flock control. Jim would love a Nora pup, but think it might be a little on the extra large size whereas we are looking under 50 lbs ( but not a rat dog). Would love a corgi mix or aussie. Anyway, found two shelters in WI that look to be good (thanks Terri!) and will put an application in and see what happens. I am feeling the need and as DH said, at least you are not craving another kid (nope!).

off to pick up my little people

BF4me- I did line therapy for a few years with some very special children. Good for you for being such a great mom and getting the ball rolling. I"m sure it must be very frustration going through the system, but even just having you researching and doing simple things with him will make all the difference until you can get him some formal therapy. Good Luck to you

Unkadan- Nope I'm a mutt of Greman, French, Polish and American Indian. The funeral was for my SIL family member . Beautiful country up your way!

good PM, It was not such an unproductive day after all.. well sort of.. My Dr appt was scratched.. they forgot to schedule my test.. Dam4, showered and shaved for nothing..

So I hurried home hoping to take advantage of the nice sunny day.. Only to find out that my oldest sister from Cottage Grove was on her way here to visit and bringing our uncle with her.. that shot the best part of the early afternoon.. At 3 PM I got busy and cut some plywood, insulated the ceiling and nailed on one side of the roof.. Then the sun was gone and it got cold..Oh well, tomorrow is another day.. I hope nobody comes to visit..

Darwin did drop off the brake, and said he didn't need it until Dec.. He also paid me for it, so now I am borrowing "my" brake, I guess..

OK , that's it for now..

remember , today is election day.. Vote early,,, and often...

Evening all Just lost my post but guess what, The missing banty has been aprehended and is in custody. Lock down
yesss.gif

It seems that the obstinate young girl was seen by another neighbor all week, He had been feeding her bread crumbs. We saw her today when my eldest and I were walking the chows. We got home and went back armed with blankets. She was a very elusive young girl, hanging out in the rasberry briars. We finally chased her out and after several false aprehensions, We caught her when she flew into a basement window well. When we caught her she was screaming like she was being plucked. After I started stroking her neck, she quieted down. I carried her to prison where the other girls were waiting. They all spooked when I entered the covered run so I let her out of the sheet and she joined them in their flapping. After that was done, I lost which one she was and apparently the girls are happy to have another cell mate. Thanks for all the support and ideas. I am surprised she made it for a week with all the owls and hawks but she is quite the sneaky little girl David

I just checked on the felon and she was in the coop with the rest of the girls. Everyone was on the top run of the perches except one. I am assuming it is her, hopefully soon she will be able to join the other girls soon,

Fish Fry Friday Again Already....the weeks really fly by this time of year.... everything is good here for the most part. The water lines are all drained at Camp. Looks like we are ready for Winter with the snowblower ready to keep er open all Winter for folks to enjoy the time in woods.

Sounds like Delavan doesn't allow chickens ? Is that right MLH ?

Suzies Uncle is still in a coma from the accident...he is only 61 and in the fight of his life....special thanks to those that wish him well.

Pan fried White Bass tonight with a big red baked potato...no time taken to make slaw tonight. I'll have a big ice cream cone to fill that void.

I raised Miniature schnauzers for years....great watch dogs, loving and friendly with the family....they don't shed and need to be clipped to avoid the mats that will otherwise grow. It's a breed some love and some dislike....I would consider one again if I was going to have a house dog. just sayin. I sold hundreds, with phone calls for years from folks wanting another one from my lines.... they will win your hearts for sure. One can leave the ears alone...they are fine that way.
