Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi all,

Hi Judge, where ya been? Glad your horse is ok, I'm gonna hopeful think it at this point : ) so far so good.

Wow David, that looks almost exactly like her. Maybe she has some polish in her that gave the mohawk and darker tail, thanks.

Jim, do you know or have a guess at what my roo is? Legs are blue and featherless and his head's not speckled like the one's I've looked up which are otherwise similar. I think he's 9 months old.

Hi all!

DrH.... Thanks for the kitty pics! Keep the updates coming! They are defiantly people kitties! Don't feed them while you are eating. My older ones will sit nicely and watch, then if there's something left they can have, they get it when we're done. But not from the plate. Yes, it's cute when they try to snitch... but not good. Glad they're doing well.

TO... MORE chicks?! Good grief! :p Hope Tommy gets over his sneezies!

Well, back to work ... then bed... Night!

Good Morning All! SR that roo deffinitely looks to be a PR. And like Dave said a CW cross. And like Dave said

You know the rules. Never pass up a bathroom, never trust a ......... Now on to kitten news. Still having a few accidents but 99% is making it to the box. Both figured out how get on the bed last night, so a rough night for us. Toby found Bob's old spot and now sleeps cuddled up with the old guy. Taz is making baby steps with them. And now for the big news. Butters is Margerine. Cind will get that it's from South Park. For those not familiar he is a she! No doubt in my mind. New named needed. Only 4 eggs yesterday but looking for a windfall today. Thinking of putting the snow bucket on the Fiord when this warmer weather hits this weekend. Don't need it but it's comin! Makin pork Q's today from leftover pig roast.

Better get L's car warmed up.

Good morning! Short read today. Folks must be hittin' the hay early...I know I did. Unfortunately I then woke and couldnt get back to sleep! I really think I should get up and do something when that happens. Maybe Cind and Frenchie are rubbing off on me? I guess that's what I get for telling them they should not live like vampires.

It feels much warmer today than yesterday even though the thermometer is the same...it must be the sun! MXM is coming over today at nine...oops, it's 9:09! Hey she's late! LOL! I dont know what we are going to do yet...maybe get the plastic up on the porch. She said she would help me...what a dear!

Gotta run! TerriOsogladforthesuntoday

(ps) I sure hope your mini is OK judge! There was some of that that got into horse feed at Landmark in Cottage Grove...scary stuff for sure!

Thanks for the tips and tricks everyone. We are working hard to make this a sweet dog. And he is still a puppy. but rather get him trained now before there are issues. We have so many of the kids friends in and out of the house that I want a good dog around.
After really watching hard last night... the problem is with my dd. She just giggles and cant be firm. She wants to snuggle on the floor with the puppy and when he gets naughty she holds her dolls and things in the air above his head, teasing him. Working on it with her. She just does not seem to realize what she is doing and doesnt want to yell at her puppy. Told her she yells at her brother just fine...
DS has figured it out for the most part. When puppy gets crazy he is firm and walks away. Whereas she thinks it is a game with the pup. Sigh... training the kids is tougher than the dog.

good morning, all cuppa'd up .. still have to go feed chicks.. I wonder if the water froze ?

I had a call from my tractor guy.. he has the crank report.. the oil pump is missing the vanes.. Adam,, remember the thing we found in the oil pan ? thought it was a magnet ? I wonder if that is what those things were.. IDK exactly where they are.. I will do a search..

anyhow, the crank is OK, but it has to be polished.. will put all new bearings in and repair the pump.. this should not cost tooooo much..

I really want to get the loader back onto Ollie ,, snow is coming .. then I can go out and play,

had a call from a lady who I sold 2 pullets to.. they turned into roosters.. she butchered one and wanted to bring the other one back.. I told her to butcher it also, and come and pick out any 2 real pullets.. I don't need to feed any extra roosters..

I played cards with the guy who bought two turkeys for TG.. He said they were very good.. I D K if he was telling the truth or being polite.. He inquired about a Christmas goose, so I guess he was really satisfied ..

SR, I am not really much of an expert on chicken breeds and colors.. I am not a fan of multi colored birds.. I am more into egg production , hatching and ultimately butchering.. I have found that some of those multicolored chickens (roosters) are difficult to pluck.. I stick more to the common breeds..

I am not ignoring anyone.. If I don't know the answer, I don't reply.. but I will reply even if I only THINK I know the answer..

jim-I guess anything is possible...with chickens, but I usually get two eggs a day and each is pretty unique in their own coloring and shell strength.

So, here is the update on my chickies!

When we put out the chicks originally to the coop they would religiously go into the coop every night, but as it got warmer out the stayed on the ladder in the run overnight. Now what I have is chickens that want to roost on the ladder in the run in below 20s temperatures. I have been going out for the last 2 nights and taking them off the ladder roost in the run and putting them into the coop. I think tonight as it get toward dusk, I'm gonna go out and urge them to enter under their own means.

Will they actually go in there on their own if they get cold enough? Or not?

Hi All-

Chikenscratch-our Dominique Roo and his girls started staying out on the ladder or under the raised coop for awhile, too. Now that it's been getting down into the single digits at night, they've been going into the coop better. This weekend it's supposed to be warmer, so wonder what they'll do now. Hopefully, yours will start going in better when it gets really cold, which we all know it will!

NDchickens- I had to show them originally that they should go in (when they were little), I'm just not sure whether I need to keep encouraging them to go in or if they'll do it on their own. One would think that if its too cold, they'd go inside, but we all know what assuming can do!

Quote: I read once the laying cycle is every 27 hours so it is very likely that theya re all laying. Plus have you added more protien, calcium to their diets. Do they have 14 hours of daylight?
One year old is not old for a laying hen. They are in their prime at that age. I would not cull at this point. look at her vent. If it is wide and moist she is laying. Most likely if it is dry and not as wide or puffy she is not. If they all look the same then I would assume (I know never assume) that they are all laying. I wouldn't give up on her. What breed are they?
