Now you see, that makes a lot more sense to me. With the prices I quoted you, your oral surgeon is right in line.
Now the next question is this:
Do they REALLY need to be removed? I have patients in their 40s and 50s walking around with full bony impacted wisdom teeth that they will never need to worry about.
That said, if they look like they are growing INTO the adjacent teeth in front of them, then they must be removed before the roots are fully formed.
Sounds like the Ex is just going to need to suck it up and write out a check.
I had four bony impacteds removed as an 18 year old and let me tell you, it's nice to have mom there to baby you.
You definitely want the prescriptions written out before hand and picked up. He should take the pain med prior to going into the office and then have him take another 1/2 of a pain pill before the surgeon packs his mouth with cotton.
He'll most likely be putting sutures in and will need to return a week later to have them removed.
When you get him home, have ice available. 10 minutes on once side, 10 minutes on the others side, back and forth every 10 minutes for the first two full hours after he gets home. You will have to sit there and supervise because after you get him home and the pain pills are doing their thing, he'll just want to sleep. After the first two hours you can let him sleep but have the pain pills at the ready with small bits of soft bread or other soft/semi liquid food that he can swallow (so the pills don't cause heartburn or stomach upset-- nothing worse than vomiting over a surgical site)
Every situation is different so follow the Oral Surgeons post-op instructions to the letter.
Good luck and God bless.
