Chickens have amazing recuperative powers and many have survived gruesome predator attacks. What is the nature of her injuries? Is she alert or acting dazed (shock)? You can clean out her wounds with a saline solution. and then use Neosporin (NO 'caine ingredients'

You want to keep her wounds clean - make sure she is not where flies can lay eggs in her wounds. The resulting maggots can kill her faster than her injuries. The other chickens would also peck and reopen any healing - sometimes worked up to actual cannibalism.

You can tempt her appetite with anything she loves, maybe watermelon, mashed egg yolk, plain yoqurt, sliced grapes. Keep checking her wounds for swelling, draining, infection etc.

Maybe you could call your vet for advice. or prescription. I hope she is on the mend now.

If you know how the predator got to her please secure your coop or run every way possible. Predators will keep coming back until there is nothing left, OR they cannot get to the birds anymore. Then they will move on to an easier place for lunch.

My Penut did not make it through the night. And Dew is going crazy missing her. I dont know what i should do. Should i find him a home that has other ducks for companianship? or would he take in another male or female duck? If I got some ducklings would he be ok with them? I would rather like to get ducklings so they could imprint with me. But i do not want to upset him anymore than he is. Any sugjestions?

I am so sorry your baby didn't make it.

At first Dew is going to miss her companion. This is your call. Birds are highly social creatures and really do need each other. But with enough care and attention, you yourself can take the place of a mate. It depends on how much you want to give Dew. If you have the time, you can fill the needs of this bird for the most part. You can even make a house pet out of Dew. But if you don't have the time to do this, you might find Dew a companion. Either yourself or another bird will be needed to keep Dew happy. They do live happier lives with their own kind, but a human can take the place of you give a lot of yourself.

I would ask this question in our Ducks section and chat with our duck experts on this....https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/42/ducks

Good luck with your baby. And I hope your heavy heart can heal soon.
