Wish us luck!

Well, the cracked one is obviously rotten.

Do I have hope for the 7 remaining?

Long story short, the eggs were bad, but I now have a happy mama hen!

Long story: On day 25 I figured the eggs must be non-viable. But she was still so intent and focused! So I quickly asked around my county's farming page for chicks. I found someone who had week old barnyard mix chicks and I picked them up and switched them out for her eggs at night. She immediately started clucking contentedly when she heard the peeps and I prayed that would last til morning.

I did an eggtopsy and 3 eggs were solid yellow liquid and the rest were green goo. Does anyone know what that means?

This morning she was a happy mama with chicks nestled under her. I moved them out to the chicken tractor with a nestbox so they could forage better and she's been keeping a close eye on them. It's adorable watching her cluck at them and then settle right down when they are back under her. She's a good mama so far!

Mama and chicks! The lady I got them from said they are a barnyard mix of RIR, Comet, Brahma and Dominique.
