Wicca is probably the most prevalent Pagan path out there right now. It was created by Gerald Gardner and Doreen Valiente in 40’s and 50’s and introduced to the public in the 50’s. Each tradition is different and there are many solitary practitioners. The Brits follow this particular practice as laid out by Gardner and don’t consider eclectic practices to be true to the path. It wasn’t called Wicca at first, but Witchcraft or Craft of the Wise. Deities may be considered actual beings or archetypes that embody the masculine and feminine. Duotheism is most prevalent, with practitioners worshipping a God and a Goddess. The Goddess is often a triple deity, with Maiden, Mother and Crone aspects. This is related to the three phases of the moon visible to us: waxing for the Maiden which represents virginity, full for the Mother which represents fertility, and waning for the Crone which represents wisdom. Gardner did believe in a supreme deity beyond the Goddess and God as well.
