With Egg Song came first egg

Our 23 week old Barred Rock laid her first egg. My husband heard the egg song. He said it was more like an egg chuckle. The egg is small. I guess the eggs are small to begin with?

We will not eat it, I have it in a crystal cup in a basket on my kitchen counter.

Congratulations!! Yes, the eggs will become progressively larger as your girl's system figures out this whole egg-making business. If you want to keep it long-term, you may want to blow out the egg shell by poking a hole tope and bottom, sticking the pin in and "stirring" up the egg inside and then blowing it out using your mouth - that way you can preserve the shell w/out spoiling contents inside.

Good idea, will try this. Doing so, we can determine how good we are feeding them according to the color of yolk and firmness of white.
