Without heat lamp?

So I have 8 Dominique chicks whom are 2 weeks old. They are inside the house in my bedroom. This morning they seemed hot when we woke up this morning so I turned off the lamp for a little bit (plus natural sun was shining through the window). I’m on my way to a funeral so I ran out the door in a hurry and forgot to turn it back on. I want to say it’s about 65-68 degrees in our house.

We will be gone for about 4-5 hours, will they be okay without the heat lamp for that long? I feel so bad

They are kept in a medium size plastic tote, if that matters.

I'm not entirely sure if they'll make it, but now I'm thinking about all the factors...Direct sunlight will make it hotter...because you have so many, they can snuggle together for body heat...but I'm not entirely sure. I keep my house at 68-72F. But for future reference, if they are hot they will show it by going as far as possible from the heat lamp and not snuggling together. If they're too cold, they will snuggle together underneath a heat source. As long as your bin is big enough, they can cool down on their own. They are not as stupid as many people think, and will tell you how they feel. I would immediately turn on the heat lamp when you get back.

I'm not entirely sure how this will end, but then again I also don't know your set up or how you care for them.

The direct sun light isn’t enough to really heat anything to be honest. They were all away from the heat light as possible this morning. It’s really hard to regulate the temp in the plastic bin, the lamp makes it really hot in there. I will definitely be using something else as a broder next time we get chicks.

Do you have a thermometer in the brooding bin? Otherwise I'd put one in there and see how hot it is. As they grow you must slowly pull the heat lamp farther away from them.

Yeah, I know that. I know how warm the brooder is suppose to be. This was clearly an accident like the post said.

But she shouldn't overheat them. There are certain temperatures for every week of age.

They will probably be alright. They will snuggle together for body heat. When you get back turn on the heat lamp, but slowly warm them up. Drastic changes in temperature could do harm. I hope for the best. Keep us updated. No judging here, accidents happen.
