The one thing that we did not touch on is that it could be a genetic issue with the one bird. I don't remember if I mentioned my bobble head roo, wonder if there is a connection there? Now that he's older it is not as prevalent but when stressed he will jerk like crazy. He's fine in every other respect.

Aran, funny you should mention the pred. We've had quite a discussion through emails concerning it.

Aran - Why are you so concerned regarding trial data, side effects, etc? What is your personal interest in this issue, if i may ask?

Hi Robin - Yes, you did mention your roo, which gives me hope that my little guy may be able to live a normal life.

Aran, feel free to email me personally to discuss this. But be prepared - i have a lot to say on the matter, especially to someone who suggests any relief i may be experiencing is merely "placebo effect".

Ill leave it at this...if you read my post you will see I said it is one possibility...the other possibility is that there is something else that the prednisone is treating...medicine has not even managed to figure out what causes fibromyalgia yet much less what the optimal treatment is and Im not trying to in any way minimize your suffering or try and tell you what is working and what is not...you know your body ...if its working great.

I don't think even the 'not inflammatory in nature' bit is written in stone as new studies continue to emerge implicating the inflammatory response system's role in FM:

So can we get back to our birds now and leave the discussion of FMS out of it or at least take it to Social?

Colleen, I failed to mention that my bobble head roo is the meanest dang bird.

One other thing about this, I currently have a head injured bird in the house. Once you have seen both the nutritional/heat related/genetic head movements compared to the head injury there is no doubt what is going on.

There also appears to be signs that will tell you a seizure is emanate. With this bird its reaching up to scratch or reaching around to do what looks like a grooming routine. It appears that there is a tingling of nerve endings just before. Most of the time I can halt the seizure if I'm right there by picking the bird up and holding its head.

So far this morning there haven't been any but typically it doesn't start for another hour. The bird has made huge progress since I brought it in 6 days ago. The real test will be when I begin to decrease the pred.

If it ever happens to one of your birds get your vet to make up a suspension of pred and add flavoring to it. Mine added molasses flavoring, the bird will drink it right from the spoon.

Hi Robin - Interesting. i appreciate the detailed description. i'm fairly sure this is not a head injury issue, and i'm not seeing seizure activity. It's more like a tick. i've seen it happen when he has his head upright, and also when he bends down to eat or drink. He just takes a moment for the movement to stop and then resumes his activity. He looks healthy and happy otherwise. He participates in the hopping, flapping, chest-bunting types of skirmishes normal baby chicks do. When he and his two friends were out in the pen with the others, he held his own in the pecking order. i'll just have to keep an eye on him and make sure no other symptoms arise.
