yup... they go nuts...
did you read how before it happend..him and another one started to go really crazy fast around the pool... Probably like how a caged tiger paces and go nuts...
It's tragic for the trainer, her family, and the whale. I don't like wild animals being in captivity, but what do you do with an animal that has been injured, orphaned, or bonded to humans? Releasing those wild animals will only result in their quick death by starvation or predation. There is no good option, unfortunately.
Now they are saying the whale grabbed her off the edge of the pool by her waist and shook her. So so sad.
I read once (I am no expert) that there are 2 subspecies of killer whales, one that hunts seals and penguins, and one that eats fish. They try to use the fish eaters for these Sea World shows for this reason.
Please read the comments. One person was kind enough to explain why those whales are in captivity in the first place. They were NOT captured and forced to work for our entertainment. Those whales were rescued and/or born in captivity. They will release a whale if they see it fit to live in the wild, otherwise, it stays in the park.

i do know they rescue.............
Please don't get me wrong...sea world has a great recue unit. My husband knows them very well. just don't think a whale has any place in a small tank like that.
I wonder why someone hasn't invented an enclosure where the whales can be in the ocean, with more space yet still cared for by humans? That might mitigate some of the issues with them going stir crazy.
Whether or not you think some of these animals should be kept in captivity, they are as well taken care of as they can be. Its truly the only way for the population to view and understand these animals, and understand CONSERVATION. If it takes a few of these animals kept in captivity to make the public aware of their beauty and magnificence and what a great loss it would be should be lose them, then so be it.
As far as this whale killing another person, it was someone who had entered the park illegally, and gone in the pool after hours. It was not an employee.
