Wondering?… What would cause a duckling to hatch with wry neck? None of the others have it.

I was doing some research and found out the causes of wry neck, including injuries, bacterial infections or a dirty brooder, botulism, and vitamin deficiency’s.
But I can’t figure out why just one would hatch with it.
He was large and overdue, but mom abandoned them and I have them in their brooder in our kitchen. I keep it IMMACULATE, as it is in our kitchen.
I scrub it down, change the wood chips and bedding daily, boil their feeding dishes and wash their blankets with hot water along with their stuffed animals.
I keep it completely germ free.
So my question is, what would cause a duckling to hatch with wry neck?
Mom is very healthy and is feed the best feed, leafy greens, oyster shell calcium for healthy eggs and ducklings, so I don’t understand why just one hatched with wry neck?

Any ideas?

Thank you and God bless! ❤️

What is their diet? It’s unlikely they hatched with it, but maybe their yolk didn’t have enough Vitamin E. You can try giving them some sunflower seeds or crushed almonds.

She definitely hatched with it, we watched her hatch and immediately noticed she had wry neck.
We are treating her with:
Niacin
Vitamin E
B complex
Selenium
Electrolytes
Leafy greens
Sunflower seeds
Scrambled eggs
Warm, moist compresses
Gentle stretching exercises, as told to us by our vet.
But nothing is helping at all.
I’m concerned that when she is old enough to join the flock, she’ll get picked on.
She’s still indoors in their brooder with her 2 siblings. She eats, drinks, plays with her toys, runs around, etc. But she has to stop and put her head down often. It pulls to the left but when we massage her we can straighten it out perfectly and she’ll lay like that on our lap until we have to get up, it actually seems like laying that way takes off the pulling or pressure, but as soon as we put her down it goes right back.

Im really at a loss.. 😢

Kindly,
Amy

In case hatching takes too long they can end up with wry neck.
A dislocation of the cervical vertebrae can also be the cause. The vet could take an x-ray.

And also vitamin deficiencies in (no deworming) the parent birds some weeks prior to collecting the eggs.

Hi,
He was overdue and quite large. We’ve been doing everything possible for him including every vitamin I’ve been told to give. But I just can’t get an answer on the dosage. He’s so small I don’t wanna overdose him!
But no matter how much research I do I can’t find the correct dosage of niacin, vitamin E, B complex, selenium and Brewers yeast.
I’m just guessing right now and it’s likely not enough.
His curve is between his shoulder blades so a brace won’t help him.
He’s over wise healthy but he’s not with the flock yet and we have 10 Muscovy’s and I’m afraid he’ll get picked on.
I could never cull him either so I simply don’t know what to do.

Very kindly,
Amy
