Wondering about mixing

I have three one year old hens; One SLW and two Buff O's. I have them segregated in a separate place away from the 21, 5 week old chicks that we got. I'm wondering when it is safe to mix the groups. The hens are really nice. They keep hearing the chicks peep and squawk and keep wanting to get into the coop to see what they are.

I think it's best to keep the peace and keep the two gangs seperate their entire lives.
I know others mix, but that can be asking for trouble.

I would wait until the 5 week olds are at least 8 weeks. That is what i am doing
