Wondering if there is something going on with my chickens. They are losing feathers on the top of their heads, and some have small black spots on their combs. I cannot see any sort of parasite on them, can you always see them? They seem to be preening all of the time, egg productin is not down, and their poo looks fine, and appetite is fine. I had one a few weeks back that had a fever and then died, and now have another one that is keeping one eye shut, and she tucks her head most of the day. The coop is a challenge this winter because of the crazy weather we have been having. Maybe I am looking for something that is not there.....My Buff Orp roo also has feathers on the back side of his head that look to be parted sort of. Should I just do a thorough cleaning and dust everyone to be on the safe side? I do the deep litter method so it has been damp a few times. Doesn't help when we have below zero one day and the 40 degrees the next. I have also been letting them out every day. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem, not losing feathers but my one roo has black spots on his comb. I let them out to free range this am and he was rubbing his comb on the ground as he was scratching so it must be bothering him. I am new to this and only have had my flock for 2 months now(buff brahms,2roos,4hens)and would hate to lose one already.

Also I just noticed this a cpl days ago and has definately multiplied in a short time.
