Hi! I ended up crossing my Houdan rooster with one of my Buff Orpington hens (RIP) and I got this beautiful cockerel that I want to breed as well. I am not sure on his color pattern, feather pattern, etc.

They are not the greatest pictures but you can see his breast in the first one, behind the Easter Egger.
In second he is by his dad and in third he is in focus.
There’s a lot going on, but if I need to get a better picture I can. I would just like to know his feather patterns, etc. if that’s possible!

The father seems to be an Extended Black Mottled, Dame was a Self Buff hen with its many columbian restriction genetics(columbian, Di and Mh working together) when crossed together this produced a Pseudo spangling on the rooster.

Genetically he is E/eWh(E from sire, eWh from dame), S/s+(S from sire, s+ from dame), Ml/ml+(Melanotic Ml from sire, ml+ from dame), Pg/pg+(Pg pattern gene often found in solid black birds because it is closely lin ked to the Melanotic mutation)Co/co+(Columbian restrictor Co from dame, co+ from sire), Di/di+(minor columbian restrictor and gold diluter, Di from dame and di+ from sire).

Tue Silver Spangled are genetically ER/ER, Db/Db, Ml/Ml, Pg/Pg
Pseudo Spangling: E/eWh(creates a pseudo birche background), the combination of restrictors found in Self buff(Co, Di, Mh) and Ml-Pg linkage.

unfortunately this pseudo spangling pattern will not breed true in the long run.

Thank you so much! With that being said though, how would I produce a true spangle pattern? I am assuming I would have to have a true spangled pattern bird, correct?

Thank you! Me too! He’s a pretty one.
I actually took a screenshot of your chicken and sent it to my husband and told him I need a chicken that looks like this at some point! He agreed that it's a must have!

I just love how his tail has those peacock colors in it! I bet he's even more stunning in person

Awh! That’s awesome! And yes! Are you talking about the Houdan or the young one with the shorter tail?

Yes, you need to start with a true spangled. That is because of the linkage of Ml-Pg-Db. There are birds that are just Melanotic, or just patterned(think about partridge wyandottes), and just Db(think about Ginger OEG) getting them to work together will be real challenge.

Thank you for explaining all this to me!
