Hi, Im new here. Just looking for some advice...last month I bought six, two day old chicks. Three are Buff Orpingtons and Three are White Leghorns. They were not sexed but I am fairly sure I have 5 Hens and 1 Rooster. The rooster is a Buff Orpington. I have heard about (and experienced!) nasty roosters that will attack you. If anyone has any tips on how to ensure he is sweet please reply!! I really don't want to get rid of him but, I will if he turns out mean.
Thanks!!

if you hold him a lot that could help, but only if he wants to be held. However if his personality is mean that you've got to try harder.

I've actually heard that "nice" roos will turn nasty-natured faster because they lose their natural fear of humans. I don't know if there's any truth to this, but the local "Chicken Guru" mentioned this when I told him about Duke, my sweet Buff Orpington roo. I've also read about that here, too, somewhere...sad, because he's SO sweet! He always wants in my lap and is the first to the edge of the brooder when I come downstairs to see if I have treats. He'll perch on my shoulder. I really, really hope this isn't true myself.
